Why Should You Study Medicine Abroad?

A medical career is one of the most lucrative and rewarding careers in many countries. In fact, in 2020, some of the highest paid people in the world have jobs related to health care. Also, albeit challenging, medicine-related courses are still one of the most sought-after courses for many students.

There are many good reasons to study medicine abroad, and here are some of them.

Have Greater Chances of Getting into Medicine School

Sometimes, getting accepted into a foreign medicine school is easier compared to one’s home country and the reason for those may vary. One possible reason is due to the amount of medicine school in one’s home country, in some countries, they tend to be limited. Another reason may be due to the entrance requirements. In some countries, the requirement to get into a medical institution is more restrictive than others.

Another possible case is due to the high demand of medical practitioners in another country. Some institutions or governments may even offer financial assistance to foreign students to study medicine in their country.

Cheaper Options to Study Medicine

Another benefit of studying medicine in another country is you have better and more options. Medicine is a lucrative career, and expect that you need a lot of money to fund your tuition fees, laboratory and other materials needed.

Now, studying medicine in another country gives you the option to choose among some of the best schools and some of the  most affordable ones. For example, compared to many countries in Europe, it is cheaper to take medicine in Malaysia, another favorite study destination.

Better Look for Your CV

A degree abroad is sure to make anyone’s CV look better than their peers. This is because, the experience one gets when they study abroad is different compared to when the student chooses to pursue their studies in their home countries.

International students usually get to develop a different perspective in many things, including culture. For many employers and workplaces, they believe that applicants who have studied abroad can bring in more for the companies, with their ideas and unique experiences.

You Get Exposed to Different People and Culture

One of the most important things about being a doctor is connecting with your patients, listening to their woes and understanding what ails them to better understand their condition and what kind of help they need. Your exposure to different cultures and people abroad is a great training ground for interacting with different people, plus, you get to develop your observation, and communication skills.

Learn a New Language While Studying Medicine

Another benefit to studying medicine abroad is the chance to learn a new language. If you already know English, studying abroad is a good way to learn another language that is useful when you plan to pursue future employment in your host country, or work in an international setting.

However, if you want to be better in English, studying abroad in an English speaking country can help you do that. Most European and even other countries in Asia like the UAE and Malaysia teach in English. In Hong Kong, although many institutions teach in English, some may require you to learn a bit of Cantonese.
