As an international student, you want to be prepared before going to the new place that you will now be living in. In addition, you would want to prepare for everything that might happen from here on out.

Russia is a cold place, and St. Petersburg wouldn’t be any better. In addition to being ready to face a change of weather, you would also want to be ready when facing new people.

But first things first, you have to be able to get aboard the plane before meeting the city. Fortunately, we’ve prepared a list of things that you should bring before you leave for St. Petersburg.

General Documents

Before leaving you must make sure that everything is already prepared. You might want to also check and double-check your belongings so you know that you have everything. Here is a list of documents that you need to prepare before leaving your home country:

  • Valid passport with visa
  • Medical insurance
  • General Good Health certificate
  • Fluorography certificate (lung X-ray)

Fluorography X-Rays must be translated to Russian and could take several days. It’s best to start this as early as possible to give time for the translation.

In addition, make sure you have photocopies of your passport ID page, passport visa page, letter of referral from the Ministry of Education, and your study contract if it applies.

You should also have four passport-size photos. Moreover, you need the contact details of the people you would need to consult and the contact details of the embassy/consulate/diplomatic mission in Russia. Just to be safe, you can also scan your documents and save the file on cloud storage so you can access them at any time.

Medical Insurance

Just before you arrive in Russia, make sure that you’ve already had your own health and accident insurance in your home country. This is because you wouldn’t be able to receive your Russian student visa without medical insurance.

Once you have your insurance, contact your provider and confirm that your insurance policy is valid in Russia, and check the details of your coverage.

Dormitory Documents

To get a student dormitory, you would need to provide some documents that were stated above, depending on your university. Having a copy of each document would help during this time since you wouldn’t have to run around and have them copied or reprinted.

Some common requirements are your valid passport and a copy of said passport, and a health certificate that has already been translated to Russian. In addition, you will be asked to present a Fluorography certificate (in Russian). Lastly, you’ll need two passport size photos.
