RIT Offers Nationally Accredited Ultrasound Programs

Rochester Institute of Technology’s (RIT) diagnostic medical sonography program has been granted continuing accreditation in accordance with the profession’s national standards and guidelines.

The accreditation of RIT’s sonography/ultrasound program ensures the education of skilled sonographers in the specialized areas of abdominal-extended, cardiac, obstetrics, and gynecology.

Key Takeaways:

  • In compliance with the profession’s national standards and guidelines, RIT’s diagnostic medical sonography program has been granted continuing accreditation.
  • Diagnostic medical sonography (ultrasound) and echocardiography (heart ultrasound) certificate programs are available at RIT.
  • The certification of RIT’s curriculum ensures that qualified sonographers in the areas of abdominal-extended, cardiac, obstetrics, and gynecology are educated.

The Joint Assessment Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography conducted a peer review in line with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs’ full evaluation of the program.

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs assesses programs that train health care workers in a range of fields.

The commission and joint review committee, in collaboration with other allied organizations, establish national standards for diagnostic medical sonography programs.

Within the College of Health Sciences and Technology, RIT provides diagnostic medical sonography (ultrasound) BS/certificate and echocardiography (heart ultrasound) certificate programs.

Under the direction of professor and director Hamad Ghazle and his staff, ultrasound education at RIT has grown and progressed.

Every five years, the accreditation procedure is repeated, and program compliance is regularly monitored.

The next evaluation and site visit for RIT’s diagnostic medical sonography program is scheduled for 2027.
