Deakin University Launches New Program For Entrepreneurs And Start-Ups

With the support of an AU$1 million voucher program sponsored by the Victorian Government, Deakin University’s ManuFutures launched a new initiative for entrepreneurs and start-ups in regional Victoria.

Entrepreneurs and start-ups with brilliant ideas but little manufacturing expertise are invited to join the ManuFutures business incubation team on a path from concept through proof-of-concept, commercial production, and new initiatives.

Key Takeaways:

  • Deakin University’s ManuFutures has unveiled a new project for entrepreneurs and start-ups in regional Victoria.
  • The new Accelerate program will begin on April 26 with a free 12-week Ignite course for a select group of hand-picked entrepreneurs.
  • Following the program, a six-month Bootcamp will be held, with the Victorian government providing an AU$50,000 voucher.

A free 12-week Ignite workshop for a small number of hand-picked entrepreneurs will kick off the new Accelerate program on Apr. 26.

The program will be followed by a six-month Bootcamp, which will contain an AU$50,000 voucher from the Victorian government to assist candidates in turning their ideas into commercial success stories.

Deakin and ManuFutures have a great track record, according to Ross Mahon, Executive Director Deakin Research Innovations, with more than AU$1 billion in company value created since ManuFutures was founded in 2018, more than 500 student placements, and 120 direct new jobs.

The AU$20 million expansion program at Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus will see the ManuFutures center expand, with an AU$10 million grant from the Victorian Government via the Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund (VHESIF).

Mahon urged entrepreneurs and start-up businesses in Ballarat, Bendigo, Warrnambool, Gippsland, and Geelong to apply to the Ignite workshop program in order to be considered for a spot in the six-month Bootcamp program.
