Florida International University (FIU), one of Abcodo’s renowned partner institutions, conducted its second Global Learning Forum, tackling effective ways to incorporate global learning experiences in the curriculum of the participants.

Following the initial forum in Fall 2020, FIU’s Office of Global Learning Initiatives professors and staff, in collaboration with FIU Global, focused on enacting and analyzing global learning in the 2021 forum.

Key Takeaways:

  • FIU hosted the Global Learning Forum to discuss effective strategies to include global learning experiences into participants’ curriculum.
  • Academics, staff, and administrators had the opportunity to hear from and question FIU faculty and administrators during the 2021 Global Learning Forum.
  • The forum is intended to be a collaborative conversation between FIU teachers and global learning employees.

Faculty and staff at FIU’s Office of Global Learning Initiatives have been developing global learning initiatives that have piqued the interest of the university community for more than a decade.

A total of 1,425 teachers and staff from 72 departments across all schools have attended professional development training to infuse global learning aspects into their existing undergraduate courses or build new global learning designated courses.

Nearly 160,000 undergraduates have broadened their global perspective, awareness, and willingness to interact as a result of these courses.

FIU’s global learning courses and activities have aided students in becoming global citizens capable of confronting global issues with a variety of people both inside and outside the classroom.

Students can apply for high-impact programs including the FIU Global Learning Medallion, the Millennium Fellowship, and the Peace Corps Prep through the Office of GLI.

The 2021 Global Learning Forum provided academics, staff, and administrators with the chance to hear from and question FIU administrators, faculty, staff, and students on their experiences with global learning.

Panthers offered advice on how to advise students on global projects, how to change a class to include global learning components, how to measure student learning outcomes for global skills, and much more.
