Gujarat Inching Closer to Achieving

Gujarat Inching Closer to Achieving 10,000 International Enrollees

Key Takeaways:

  • Gujarat is close to reaching the target of 10,000 international students enrolled in technical courses.
  • About 8,916 international applications were received in over 15 universities.

With a 2022 deadline of getting 10,000 international enrollees, Gujarat can already claim success as it has already received 8,916 international applications in more than 15 colleges and universities offering technical courses.

At present, institutions in Gujarat have 3,111 confirmed admissions from overseas students, and others will also be registered after proper verification, according to a senior government official. Gujarat University has received 2,660 applications, the most out of all the institutions. On the other hand, Gujarat Technical University has already admitted 809 international students.

The world’s first and only university focusing on forensics, cybersecurity, allied sciences, and digital forensics, National Forensic Sciences University in Gandhinagar has 170 confirmed admissions of the 315 total applications.

A recent amendment of the Gujarat Professional Technical Educational Colleges or Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fees) Bill in 2019 allowed private colleges to take in international students. The changes allow for more direct admissions of overseas nationals and students from other states of India to study in Gujarat. Government-reserved seats in self-financed colleges have also dropped from 75 percent to 50 percent.

Management-quota seats increased from 25 percent to 50 percent, including 15 percent non-resident Indian seats, foreigners, and students from other Indian states.
