Amazon’s Career Choice program is an educational benefit that allows employees to learn new skills that will help them succeed in their careers, whether at Amazon or elsewhere.

Amazon is investing US$1.2 billion to upskill more than 300,000 employees by 2025 to help move them into higher-paying, in-demand jobs.

Through its Career Choice program, thousands of employees are earning certificates and degrees of their choice. More than 50,000 Amazon employees have participated in Career Choice since its inception in 2012.

LSU, LSU Shreveport, LSU Eunice, and LSU Alexandria are expected to give degrees and college credit certificates to Amazon employees. Each institution has a critical role to play in training students to integrate new information and technologies into their everyday lives.

According to Matt Lee, LSU’s interim executive vice president and provost, with an emphasis on ‘Scholarship First,’ their purpose is to provide exceptional educational opportunities for the workforce.

In this program, individual learners are met where they are in their educational journeys through a variety of education and upskilling opportunities, such as full college tuition, industry certifications that lead to in-demand jobs, and foundational skills like English language proficiency, high school diplomas, and GEDs.

The program will expand in the United States beginning January 1, 2022, to cover full college tuition for employees at hundreds of education partners around the country.

Full-time employees will be eligible for a maximum benefit of $5,250 per year beginning January 1, 2022, with no lifetime limit. Part-time workers are entitled to a yearly benefit of $2,625 with no lifetime limit.

Up to the employee’s full eligibility, the benefit covers 100% of tuition, fees, and textbooks. Any sum in excess of the maximum benefit is the employee’s responsibility.
