Scholarships for International Master of Science Students in the US
In 2020, the US News reported a staggering increase in tuition fees for the last two decades. Costs of studying at out-of-state public national universities have risen to 165%; for in-state public national universities, 212%; and for private national universities, 144%.

For international students in the US, tuition fees are only the tip of the iceberg. Their total expenses include visa application fees, admission fees, air flights, insurance, accommodation costs, among others.

To cushion the weight of high financial requirements, international students apply for scholarships. This is a better alternative to taking out student loans, which takes a long time to pay back, long after graduation.

If you’re taking a Master of Science degree in the US, we have a reliable list of scholarship options for you. Here’s a quick look at some of the scholarship programs you can apply for to take your MS degree:

The Fullbright Foreign Student Program

The Fullbright Program offers different scholarships to foreign students studying in the US. The scholarship grants from the Fullbright Program typically cover tuition fees and other expenses such as textbooks and health insurance.

International students who are taking a master’s or doctorate degree from any field (interdisciplinary included) can apply for this program. Eligibility requirements vary by country.

Kaplan Group Business Scholarship

The Kaplan Group awards scholarships to graduate students who are pursuing master’s degrees aligned with business or law. Students in the US will receive $1,000 for school funding.

To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must be taking a graduate degree program in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Management, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, and Law.

The American Association of University Women

The American Association of University Women or AUUW offers scholarships specifically for non-American female students. Scholarship grants from AUUW can go from $18,000 to $30,000 per year.

If you have exhibited commitment and support to programs and initiatives that seek to advance girls in women, then your application can be highly prioritized in AUUW. You’re also allowed to reapply for the grant every year.

ASTM International Graduate Scholarship

ASTM is an international organization that offers scholarships to international MS students. The scholarship award is $10,000 to cover school fees and expenses.

All foreign students are eligible to apply as long as they will attend an accredited college or university. Applicants must also demonstrate involvement and interest with the standards of ASTM.

UNICAF Program for International Students

UNICAF provides financial assistance through scholarships in underserved regions of the world. Scholarship grants are available for students of any nationality, but are more often awarded to students from Sub-Saharan Africa.

International MS students can apply online. The amount of assistance awarded is based on the student’s qualifications and financial needs.

WISE Funding for Women in STEM

Designed by Dr. Alexander Sobel, the WISE funding program was made for female MS degree students in a STEM field.

Students can send their applications online and can receive a $1,500 award if approved. To be eligible, the student must be female and a resident of Washington State.
