The GRE exam fees are US55, and each extra score report costs US$40. These are the GRE exam fees 2027 candidates pay. They come from the ETS fee table that took effect on 1 August 2026.
Two GRE exam fees facts ETS has not published
2026-10-20ETS publishes no INR fee for the GRE General Test. It also does not say whether the 4% online service fee sits inside the US$249 or is added on top. Read the final amount on the payment page before you pay.
ETS GRE fees pageYou pay the GRE exam fees when you book. The GRE registration fee and the GRE test fees are the same thing: one amount, paid online at booking. Read this page with GRE exam 2027 registration]. The GRE has no fixed exam date, so the GRE registration fee has no last date to pay. You can book any day of the year, subject to seat availability.
The GRE exam fees 2027 are one flat amount in US dollars, with no category scale for India. This is the full list of GRE test fees and extra charges.

The GRE exam fees for 2027 are US$249 per attempt. ETS charges the same amount to every candidate in India. The GRE exam fees 2026 table and the 2027 table are the same. One fee table covers the whole 2026-27 testing year. The amounts below come from the ETS fee table dated 1 August 2026. That table says fees can change without notice. Use it as your GRE exam fees 2027 reference.

| GRE General Test, India and most regions | US$249 | Confirmed by ETS |
| GRE General Test, China | US$237.86 | Confirmed by ETS |

| 2027-28 testing year fee | Not published | Not announced |
The 2026-27 policies run from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. So the US$249 fee applies to every test you take in 2027 until 30 June 2027. ETS has announced no GRE exam fees for tests after that date.
The GRE exam fees in India are US249 worldwide". It adds that the fee includes sending scores to up to four programmes. So the GRE exam fees in India include four free score reports.
ETS lists one General Test fee by region, not by test mode. The GRE test fees table shows no separate price for the at-home test. ETS says the at-home test is identical in content, format and on-screen experience to the centre test.
The current fee table took effect on 1 August 2026, and the General Test fee in it is US$249. ETS does not show the earlier fee on its fee page, so this page does not quote one.
You may see a different figure for GRE exam fees in India on other websites. Some show older amounts. Some show GRE exam fees in INR as a conversion. Those numbers differ from each other, and ETS does not publish them. Use only the ETS fee page for the GRE exam fees 2026 and 2027 amounts. A search for GRE exam fees 2026 should show the same US$249 that applies in 2027.
ETS has also not announced any GRE exam fees 2027-28 amount for the next testing year. The 2027-28 Information Bulletin is not out yet, so no GRE test fees for that year exist. A new bulletin may come around mid-2027. That timing is only an inference from the dates of the 2026-27 file. It is not an ETS statement.
Yes, the GRE exam fees 2027 can change, but ETS has announced no change. The fee table says amounts are "subject to change without notice". Pay the fee that the ETS payment page shows at the time of booking.
India pays the standard worldwide GRE fee of US237.86. There is no General, EWS or OBC split in the GRE exam fees. ETS has no category-wise fee.
ETS publishes no official INR amount for the GRE General Test. So there is no official figure for GRE exam fees in INR. ETS says you may be able to pay in the local currency your card issuer supports, or in US dollars. Any rupee amount on your card statement is not an ETS figure.
ETS does show a rupee price for some prep products. For example, the ETS India page lists POWERPREP PLUS at ₹3,305.08 per practice test. It lists no such rupee price for the test fee. So any figure for GRE exam fees in INR is an estimate. Treat a rupee amount for the GRE exam fees in India as a guide, not as a quote.
ETS shows no separate GST line for the GRE exam fees in India. It says its fees include sales, use, value-added or similar taxes, except in a listed set of countries. The list covers Australia, Canada, Colombia, the 27 EU countries, Nigeria and Norway. It also covers Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, the United States and Vietnam. India is not on that list.
ETS says the final charge for online transactions includes a non-refundable 4% online service fee. The bulletin does not say whether the US$249 already contains it. So do not add 4% to the figure yourself. Look at the total on the payment screen, and treat that as your real cost. That is why no table of GRE exam fees in INR can be exact.
ETS has no SC, ST or PwD fee scale. The fee is the same for every candidate in India. The GRE test fees do not change with category. ETS lists no retake discount in its fee table either. The only reduced fee is a US$100 voucher, and it is not open to people testing in India.
That voucher is for US citizens and resident aliens in listed groups, such as college seniors with financial need. It applies only to tests in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the US Virgin Islands. An Indian candidate cannot use it.
Candidates with a disability can ask for test accommodations, such as extra time, extra breaks, a reader or a scribe. You must request and get approval before you register. ETS says the document review takes about four to six weeks. It may take two to four more weeks if ETS asks for more documents. So plan the request early, and book the test only after approval comes.
Apply through the ETS disability accommodations process before you book. ETS reviews your documents first. Once you have approval, you register as usual and pay the GRE exam fees shown on the payment page.
The GRE has no counselling fee and no seat acceptance fee, so these GRE exam fees do not exist. ETS only reports your score. It does not allot seats and it does not run counselling.
Each school sets its own application fee, round deadlines and seat deposit. This page does not list those amounts, because the school fees were not collected for this page. Check each school's admission page before you budget. See the GRE 2027 colleges page for schools that accept the score.
Programme fees depend on the school, and only one Indian figure is confirmed on this page. IIM Ahmedabad lists the PGPX programme fee as ₹34.15 lakh for the 2025-26 batch, with single accommodation. The brochure gives ₹36.20 lakh for married student housing. Both amounts exclude the international immersion.
The PGPX brochure for the 2026-27 batch quotes these figures and labels them "for the 2025-26 PGPX Batch". Treat them as last batch's fee, not the 2027 fee. The school prints this rupee figure. ETS publishes no such figure for GRE exam fees in INR. They are programme fees, not test fees. IIM Ahmedabad accepts a valid GMAT or GRE for PGPX. The brochure states an average GRE score of 322 for the 2026-27 batch.
| School and programme | Fee detail | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| IIM Ahmedabad PGPX | ₹34.15 lakh, 2025-26 batch | |
| ISB PGP in Management | Not captured here | ISB eligibility page |
| US and European schools | Not captured here | Each school's own fee page |
ISB says it admits about 820 students a year across Hyderabad and Mohali. It needs a GRE or GMAT and sets no minimum score. The ISB programme fee was not captured for this page. Open the ISB page for the current figure.
You can pay the GRE exam fees online by card, PayPal or an authorization voucher, and cash is not accepted. The payment rules are the same for GRE exam fees 2026 and 2027. A refund is half the test fee if you cancel at least four days before the test.
ETS accepts these online payment modes.
ETS does not accept cash, cheques or money orders. For India, the bulletin points to the ETS India website for payment details. That site repeats the global text and gives no India-only payment page.
ETS refunds half of the original GRE registration fee. You must cancel no later than four days before the test date. On a US124.50, which is a calculation and not an ETS figure. A later cancellation gets no refund, and a missed test forfeits the whole fee.
The same refund rule applies to a GRE retake booking. The refund goes back to the original payment method in the same currency. ETS gives no refund for service fees, for test preparation materials or for additional services. It also gives no refund for a voucher bought from a seller other than ETS.
Name mismatch means no refund
Your registration name must match your passport exactly, excluding accents. If it does not, you cannot test and ETS does not refund the fee. Fix a mismatch before you pay.
India refund terms are not published. The bulletin tells Indian candidates to view refund terms on the ETS India website. That site shows no India-specific terms. Until ETS publishes them, plan on the general rule above.
If ETS cancels your session, you get a free new appointment or a full refund. You may also claim documented travel costs within 30 days, paid in US dollars.
Every attempt costs the full test fee. The GRE retake fee is the same US$249, because a retake is a new registration. ETS lists no GRE retake fee discount in its fee table. You must wait 21 days between attempts, with at most five attempts in any 365 days.
**Rescheduling costs US55. You must reschedule at least four days before your test date. The new date must fall within one year of the original date.
No. ETS does not accept cash, cheques or money orders. Use a card, PayPal or an authorization voucher.
ETS withholds your scores. It also adds a non-refundable US$30 service fee to the outstanding balance.
You pay at the last step of booking in your ETS account. The GRE registration fee is charged on the same payment screen. The booking is complete only after payment, and ETS then sends a confirmation email. Follow these steps, which follow the ETS registration guide.
Book online at least two calendar days before the test date. Pay the GRE exam fees 2027 in that same booking. A phone booking needs at least two business days. The at-home test must be booked online through your ETS account. Read the GRE 2027 registration page for the full booking steps.
ETS offers a free Graduate Search Service sign-up during registration. It is optional and does not change your GRE registration fee.
The test fee is only part of the cost. Extra score reports, change fees and prep material add to the total, and school application fees come on top.
| Cost | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Extra score report | US$40 each | After the four free reports |
| Reschedule or centre change | US$55 | Each change |
| Analytical Writing score review | US$60 | Request within 90 days |
| Score reinstatement | US$50 | Request within 60 days |
| Outstanding balance charge | US$30 | Added to unpaid balance |
| Subject Test (separate exam) | US$199 | Only if a school asks |
The extra charges above are also set in dollars, so any rupee estimate for them is approximate. The first four score reports are free if you choose the schools on test day. A later report costs US$40 each. ETS processes it in about five business days. Once you order a report, you cannot cancel, change or refund it. Send reports early if your five-year score validity is close to ending. These GRE test fees are due at the time you order.
Plan for the GRE retake fee too, which is the full US$249 each time. Prep costs are optional, because ETS offers free practice material that does not add to the GRE exam fees. Free items include two POWERPREP Online tests, the GRE Mini Quiz and the Math Review PDF. Paid ETS items are listed below, as shown on the ETS site on 20 October 2026, and exclude shipping.
| Paid ETS item | Listed price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| POWERPREP PLUS Online | US$44.95 per test | ₹3,305.08 per test on ETS India |
| Official Guide to the GRE General Test | US$45 | Includes two book tests |
| Verbal or Quant practice questions | US$25 each | 150 real questions each |
| Super Power Pack | US$80 | ETS bundle |
| ScoreItNow Online Writing Practice | US$20 | Two topics with instant scores |
ETS itself says many people prepare well using only the free materials. So you can keep the total cost near the test fee. Look at the GRE 2027 books page before you spend on prep.
If your passport has expired, renewing it is another cost to plan. It sits outside the test fee. The passport is the only ID accepted for GRE candidates in India.
Yes. ETS charges no fee for the GRE Diagnostic Service, and it is not on the fee list. It opens about 15 days after your test and stays open for six months.
ETS charges the sending fee, not the school. The four free reports cover four schools. After that, each school costs US$40. Check each school's own application fee separately.
For the score rules that follow payment, see the GRE 2027 results page. To see how the test is built before you book, read the GRE 2027 exam pattern.

It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
