GOAPS is the portal every GATE 2027 candidate must use to register. IIT Madras runs it as this year's organising institute. Registration opened on September 2, 2026, after the portal's original launch date was pushed back twice. The regular deadline falls on September 27, 2026, only days away. Candidates who need a bit more time can still apply with a late fee until October 5, 2026.
This year brings three changes. DigiLocker-based registration is now mandatory for Indian nationals. Live facial verification is part of that DigiLocker identity check. A new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper joins the list of 30 papers. GATE 2027 scores count toward admission to M.Tech, ME, MS and PhD programmes at IITs, IISc, NITs and other institutes. Many PSUs use the same scores for recruitment. A valid score stays usable for three years from the result date.
This page covers registration dates, eligibility conditions, the application fee, required documents, photo and signature rules, and the correction window.
Regular deadline closes September 27, 2026
Only a few days remain for fee-free registration. Apply now on GOAPS to avoid the Rs 500 late fee per paper that applies until October 5, 2026.

Avoid applying on the last day. Heavy GOAPS traffic in the final hours often causes payment failures and upload errors, a common issue every year.
No, GATE 2027 has no age limit. Any candidate can apply if they meet the educational qualification criteria.
Eligibility depends on your current degree, year of study, or an equivalent professional qualification.
Currently in the 3rd year or higher of a UG degree, or already holding a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities.
No, GATE 2027 does not limit the number of attempts.
No, GATE 2027 sets no minimum percentage or CGPA for registration.
Yes, you can apply before finishing your qualifying degree. IIT Madras asks for proof of a completed degree only at counselling or admission.
Cross-check your specific stream and qualifying degree against the official eligibility page, since rules differ for non-standard academic backgrounds.
Registration for GATE 2027 runs through eight steps on GOAPS.
Step 1
Set up DigiLocker
Create or update a verified DigiLocker account. It fetches your name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, photograph and address.
Step 2
Register on GOAPS
Visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in, click the registration link, and sign up with your email ID and mobile number to get an enrolment ID and login credentials.
Step 3
Fill personal and academic details
Log in and complete the form with personal information, address, category and academic qualification details. Do not add Mr., Dr. or Prof. before your name.
Step 4
Choose paper and exam city
Select your test paper or papers and rank your preferred exam cities in order of preference.
Step 5
Upload documents
Upload your photograph, signature, valid photo ID and category or PwD certificate, if applicable, following the prescribed specifications.
Step 6
Preview and verify
Check every section for errors before submitting. Several fields cannot be edited once the correction window closes.
Step 7
Pay the application fee
Pay online through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. Registration is not complete until payment succeeds.
Step 8
Download the confirmation page
Save and print the confirmation page once payment and submission are successful.
Monitor your application status on GOAPS after submission. It shows stages such as under scrutiny, defective, or accepted. Act quickly if a correction is needed.
GATE 2027 charges a fee per test paper, based on category.
| Category | Regular Fee (per paper) | Extended Fee with Late Fee (per paper) |
|---|---|---|
| Female / SC / ST / PwD | Rs 1,000 | Rs 1,500 |
| General / OBC-NCL / OBC-CL / EWS | Rs 2,000 | Rs 2,500 |
| Foreign Nationals | Rs 2,000 | Rs 2,500 |
No, the concessional fee applies only once. A female SC/ST/PwD candidate still pays Rs 1,000, with no further reduction. OBC-NCL and OBC-CL candidates both pay the full fee, the same as General category.
Payment happens only through GOAPS, using net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. The gender-based concession comes from your verified DigiLocker or Aadhaar-linked profile, so no separate proof is needed.
Application fee is non-refundable
The fee is non-refundable once paid, even if the application is later found defective or rejected. The only exception is a verified duplicate payment caused by a technical error on the portal.
Scorecards stay downloadable free for a limited period after the result. Extended access after that costs Rs 500 per paper, available until December 31, 2027.
GATE 2027 registration needs six documents and details, most fetched or uploaded on GOAPS.
A recent passport-size photograph, not older than three months, following the prescribed specifications.
A scanned signature, handwritten in black or dark blue ink.
A valid photo ID such as Aadhaar, passport, PAN card, voter ID or driving licence. Carry the same ID to the exam centre, and make sure the name matches your application exactly.
Required for SC and ST candidates, scanned in PDF format. OBC-NCL candidates do not need to submit a category certificate.
Needed where applicable, for benchmark disability concessions and facilities.
Your name, date of birth, mobile number, email and address get fetched automatically from your verified DigiLocker account.
Educational certificates or mark sheets are not needed at the registration stage. IIT Madras verifies them only at admission or counselling.
Common reason for a defective application
Applications with blurred, cropped, incorrectly sized or mismatched documents are commonly marked defective during scrutiny.
GATE 2027 sets separate format rules for the photograph and the signature.
| Particulars | Photograph | Signature |
|---|---|---|
| Format | JPEG/JPG | JPEG/JPG |
| File Size | 5 KB to 600 KB | 3 KB to 300 KB |
| Pixel Resolution | 200x260px min to 530x690px max | 250x80px min to 580x180px max |
| Print Size | 3.5cm x 4.5cm | Aspect ratio (height:width) between 1:2.75 and 1:3.75 |
| Background | Plain white or light coloured | Plain white paper |
| Ink/Colour | Not applicable | Black or dark blue ink only |
Keep your face at roughly 60 to 70 percent of the photo frame, with the forehead, eyes, nose and chin clearly visible. Avoid caps, hats and tinted or dark glasses. Regular prescription spectacles are fine if there is no glare. Head coverings are allowed only for religious reasons, provided your facial features stay clearly visible.
Your signature must be made by you alone. It must match the signature you use at the exam centre, or you risk disqualification. The same photograph carries forward to your admit card and scorecard, so use a recent, good-quality image.
The GATE 2027 correction window opens after both the regular and extended registration windows close.
Correction window: October 14 to October 21, 2026
October 14, 2026Log in to GOAPS as soon as the window opens, and make your changes early, not on the last day.
You can typically edit your photograph, signature, address and contact details. You can also change your test paper and exam city preferences, and in specific cases, category and gender. Some corrections, such as changing the test paper or exam city, may need an additional fee.
Name and date of birth, fetched through DigiLocker, generally cannot be changed here. Correct them at the DigiLocker source before the correction period opens. Candidates who miss the correction window cannot request further changes, and the application becomes final for GATE 2027.
