JEE Main and JEE Advanced are two different exams. Each has its own rank list. Clearing JEE Main gets you an NIT seat. Clearing JEE Advanced gets you an IIT seat.
JEE Advanced 2027 is the second exam that decides admissions into India's 23 IITs. IIT Roorkee organised the most recent edition, JEE Advanced 2026, on 17 May 2026. Nobody has announced anything about JEE Advanced 2027 yet. The IIT whose turn is next hasn't said anything either.
JEE Advanced's full name is Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced). It's the second-stage exam that decides admission into the 23 IITs (jeeadv.ac.in). Only candidates who clear JEE Main first get to sit for it. JEE Main alone gets you into an NIT, an IIIT or a GFTI, never an IIT. That distinction runs through every section here.
There's no percentile anywhere in JEE Advanced. Your result is your raw score across Paper 1 and Paper 2, plus your All India Rank (AIR) and your category rank. A different IIT organises the exam each year, on a rotation among the older IITs. That IIT publishes the marks-based qualifying cutoffs directly. JEE Advanced 2026's own result press release listed qualifying cutoffs as marks, not percentile. The open category's cutoff was 92 marks (jeeadv.ac.in; confirmed by Business Standard).
This walks through eligibility, attempts, pattern and cutoff side by side.

IIT representatives make up the Joint Admission Board (JAB). It rotates the organising job among seven of the older IITs. IIT Roorkee organised the 2026 edition (jeeadv.ac.in). Based on that rotation, IIT Delhi is next in line for 2027.

For the seat-by-seat picture of what clearing this exam actually gets you, see JEE Advanced 2027 Colleges.
JEE Advanced 2027 has no dates yet. It has no registration date and no exam date. The overall JEE Advanced schedule is published well in advance, while registration for JEE Main-qualified candidates opens after the relevant JEE Main result.
As of 13 September 2026, the official status is: not announced. IIT Delhi, or whichever IIT JAB confirms, has published no 2027 date yet.
The last three years show a clear pattern. The host institute officially confirms the exam date in early December, about five months ahead. IIT Kanpur confirmed the 2025 date on 2 December 2024. IIT Roorkee confirmed the 2026 date on 5-6 December 2025, then published its full Information Brochure, with every other detail, about three weeks later, by 29-30 December 2025.
The table below condenses exact 2024, 2025 and 2026 dates for key milestones. It also shows a tentative 2027 window, based on that pattern. See JEE Advanced 2027 Date for the complete breakdown and every source.
| Milestone | 2024 | 2025 | 2026 | 2027 (tentative) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Host + exam date officially confirmed | 1 Dec 2023 | 2 Dec 2024 | 5-6 Dec 2025 | Early Dec 2026 (estimate) |
| Registration opens | 27 Apr 2024 | 23 Apr 2025 | 23 Apr 2026 | Last week of Apr 2027 (estimate) |
| Registration closes | 7 May 2024 | 2 May 2025 | 5 May 2026 | First week of May 2027 (estimate) |
| Exam date (always a Sunday) | 26 May 2024 | 18 May 2025 | 17 May 2026 | Mid to late May 2027 (estimate) |
| Result declared | 9 Jun 2024 | 2 Jun 2025 | 1 Jun 2026 | Early to mid Jun 2027 (estimate) |
Treat the 2027 column as a pattern-based estimate, not a confirmed date. Expect IIT Delhi to officially confirm the 2027 host and exam date around early December 2026, with its full Information Brochure following roughly three to four weeks later, likely by early January 2027.

Nobody has published JEE Advanced 2027 eligibility criteria yet. The list below shows IIT Roorkee's confirmed 2026 criteria (jeeadv.ac.in/eligibility.html). Use it as your working baseline, whether you're the student applying or a parent helping them plan. These rules have stayed structurally the same from 2020 through 2026.
Five criteria applied in 2026:
40.5%
OPEN Category
of the 2,50,000, 2026
27%
OBC-NCL
2026
15%
SC
2026
10%
GEN-EWS
2026
7.5%
ST
2026
A 5% PwD reservation applies within each of those categories (jeeadv.ac.in/eligibility.html).
The Class 12 marks criterion is 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC/ST/Pwd) or category wise top 20 percentile of the board
IIT Roorkee's own five-point JEE Advanced 2026 eligibility list does not name a Class 12 percentage or percentile cutoff. Separately, JEE Main's own bulletin still lists 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD), or a top-20-percentile rule, as an admission-stage condition. This exact criterion has been added, dropped and reinstated in past cycles. Don't assume either way for 2027. Confirm it directly against IIT Delhi's (expected) bulletin once it's out.
A faculty breakdown of IIT Roorkee's official 2026 eligibility rules, rank cutoff, age limit, two-attempt cap, the same baseline this page works from.
JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Criteria OUT! Official Notification |3rd Attempt Eligibility Explained
NRI, OCI and PIO candidates can appear if they meet every other criterion. They get no reservation benefit, except under the OPEN-PwD category (jeeadv.ac.in/eligibility.html). The full rule-by-rule breakdown, including the 2027 fee table once it's out, sits inside JEE Advanced 2027 Registration.
You register for JEE Advanced only after qualifying in JEE Main, directly on jeeadv.ac.in. In 2026, IIT Roorkee ran a short registration cycle. Indian candidates registered from 23 April to 2 May, just ten days. Fee payment stayed open until 5 May (jeeadv.ac.in's 2026 schedule).
The form itself follows a familiar pattern each year. Fill in your personal and academic details, then confirm your JEE Main qualifying status. Choose your exam city preferences, and upload a photograph and signature that match the form's exact specifications. Preview everything, then pay. Foreign, OCI and PIO candidates outside India paid USD 100 (SAARC countries) or USD 200 (non-SAARC) in 2026. The organising IIT publishes domestic fee slabs fresh each cycle.
This window opens and closes fast, once JEE Main 2027 results are out. For the exact 2027 fee table and a full step-by-step walkthrough, go to JEE Advanced 2027 Registration.
You will download your JEE Advanced 2027 admit card from jeeadv.ac.in only, using your registration login. There is no separate portal and no emailed PDF. In 2026, IIT Roorkee opened the admit card window on 11 May. It stayed live until hours before the 17 May exam (IIT Roorkee's 2026 schedule).
Log in with your registered application number and password. Open the admit card section, download the PDF, and print it. Carry a valid photo ID alongside it on exam day.
Nothing about the 2027 window is out yet, dates included. Track JEE Advanced 2027 Admit Card rather than assuming the 2026 gap of roughly a week will repeat exactly.
JEE Advanced changes its exact marks and question mix most years. Other entrance exams don't change this often. Any 2027 pattern claim without a year tag is just a guess. The table below shows confirmed 2026 details, not 2027 details.
| Component | JEE Advanced 2026 (confirmed) |
|---|---|
| Papers | 2, both compulsory: Paper 1 and Paper 2 |
| Duration | 3 hours each (4 hours for PwD candidates) |
| Subjects | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, split across both papers |
| Total marks | 360 (120 marks each subject) |
| Sessions | Paper 1: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM; Paper 2: 2:30 PM–5:30 PM |

Nobody can confirm yet whether IIT Delhi will keep 360 as the total for 2027. Past organisers have shifted the total before. The overall structure has stayed the same since well before 2020: two compulsory papers, three subjects, and extra time for PwD candidates. Expect that structure to continue. For the exact 2027 marks split the moment it's out, head to JEE Advanced Exam Pattern.
A quick faculty rundown of the confirmed 2026 marks and paper structure, useful for separating what's locked in from what could still change for 2027.
Big Update for Aspirants! | JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Pattern Confirmed #jee2026 #jeeadvanced2026
JEE Advanced does not use a single MCQ format. It uses a mix of question types: single-correct MCQs, multiple-correct MCQs, numerical-value questions and matrix-match questions (jeeadv.ac.in). JEE Advanced question papers include several questions that carry partial marking. A partly right answer on a multiple-correct question can still earn some marks, not zero.
The exact number and placement of each question type changes most years. IIT Roorkee's 2026 paper spread all four types across both papers. The precise question count per type for 2027 depends entirely on IIT Delhi's (expected) bulletin, not yet published.
Negative marking exists on most question types in JEE Advanced. The exact scheme, how much is deducted and where, has varied by year. Confirm the live 2027 scheme against the official bulletin before you build a guessing strategy around it. The full section-wise breakdown, once released, lives on JEE Advanced 2027 Exam Pattern.
JEE Advanced tests three subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The depth goes beyond the standard Class 11-12 board syllabus (jeeadv.ac.in). IIT Roorkee published the JEE Advanced 2026 syllabus as a subject-wise PDF, directly on jeeadv.ac.in.
Mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, modern physics and thermodynamics, at a level that goes deeper than board-exam Physics.
The 2027 syllabus hasn't been published, topic additions or drops included. IITs rarely change the syllabus in a major way year to year. For the full topic-by-topic list once it's out, go to JEE Advanced 2027 Syllabus.
JEE Advanced 2027 has no result yet. The exam hasn't happened. You can study how the result process works instead, using 2026's confirmed numbers as your model. IIT Roorkee declared the JEE Advanced 2026 result on 1 June 2026. The final answer key came out the same day (jeeadv.ac.in; confirmed by Business Standard).

Your JEE Advanced result carries three things: raw marks out of the year's total, your AIR, and your category rank. That scorecard has no percentile conversion anywhere. Once JEE Advanced 2027 actually runs, real 2027 numbers will replace these figures, not before. Track it at JEE Advanced 2027 Result.
"Cutoff" means two different things in JEE Advanced. Mixing them up is the single most common mistake students and parents make with this exam. The first is JEE Advanced's own qualifying cutoff, a minimum aggregate marks figure, category-wise. It decides whether you qualify at all. The second is JoSAA's opening and closing rank for each IIT, branch and category combination. That second one decides which actual seat you get. Neither is a percentile. Both run on rank or marks.

Qualifying marks are not the same as your admission cutoff
Clearing 92 marks in 2026 made you qualified for JEE Advanced. It did not guarantee any specific IIT or branch. That gets decided separately, seat by seat, through JoSAA's opening and closing rank for each institute-branch-category combination, published only after counselling rounds run.
JEE Advanced 2027 will not have its own qualifying cutoff until the exam happens and results come out. For institute-and-branch-wise ranks the moment JoSAA publishes them, see JEE Advanced 2027 Cutoff. It also covers what actually moves a cutoff year to year.
JEE Advanced's selection process has no interview and no group discussion. Only your rank matters. After the result, JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) takes over. You fill in your choices of IIT and branch, in order of preference. JoSAA then runs several allotment rounds, matching rank against the seat matrix.
JEE Advanced's selection runs purely on rank, unlike the shortlist-and-interview process some other entrance exams use. Your rank decides which seats you can reach. Your own choice order then decides which of those seats you actually get. For the round-by-round mechanics, see JEE Advanced 2027 Colleges.
IIT Roorkee hosts JEE Advanced's official past papers directly on jeeadv.ac.in. These papers span many past years. IITs set every question themselves, not a coaching institute (jeeadv.ac.in). That is why only these papers truly match the difficulty and style you will face.
For the full year-wise archive with direct downloads, go to JEE Advanced 2027 Previous Year Question Paper.
Start with official past papers. That single habit does more for JEE Advanced prep than any other decision you'll make. It's the only source that shows you exactly how IITs phrase and structure their questions.
Build your practice around the question types that carry partial marking. A multiple-correct question you get half right can still earn you marks. A guessed wrong answer on a single-correct question often costs you more than leaving it blank.
Time management matters as much as raw concept knowledge here. JEE Advanced runs two separate three-hour papers, not one long sitting. Practising full-length papers under real time pressure, not just topic-wise sets, actually prepares you for that form.
No verified, dated, official list of "the best JEE Advanced books" exists to check against. Build your reading list around what your own board and JEE Main prep already used. Then layer in official past papers for the difficulty jump specific to JEE Advanced.
Data sources: JEE Advanced official site (jeeadv.ac.in), eligibility page and Result 2026 Press Release, accessed September 2026. Cross-checked against Business Standard's 1 June 2026 report on the same result. Every 2026 figure here carries that year, because JEE Advanced 2027's own numbers don't exist yet. Where IIT Delhi or JAB hasn't confirmed something for 2027, it says so plainly. It never assumes last year's answer carries forward.
Answers to what readers ask most often.
JEE Advanced is the second-stage exam that decides admission into India's 23 IITs. Only candidates who clear JEE Main first are eligible to sit for it. Clearing JEE Main alone gets you into NITs, IIITs or GFTIs, never an IIT. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in.
IIT Delhi is expected, based on a rotation, but this is not yet officially confirmed. IIT Roorkee organised 2026. As of 12 September 2026, neither IIT Delhi nor the Joint Admission Board has made a formal announcement. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in.
No date has been announced yet. IITs release the schedule only after JEE Main results the same year, typically one to two months before the exam. JEE Advanced 2026 was held on 17 May 2026, for reference. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in.
No. JEE Advanced results are raw marks, All India Rank and category rank, with no percentile anywhere in the scorecard. Even qualifying cutoffs are published as marks, not percentiles. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in, Result 2026 Press Release.
