IIT Bombay's computer science seat closed at All India Rank 66. This was JoSAA's final counselling round for 2026. That number is a rank, not a score out of 100. JoSAA never converts it into a percentage.
JEE Advanced 2027 has not happened yet. IIT Delhi will likely conduct it, following a seven-year rotation among IITs, though the official notification is not out yet, as of 12 September 2026. The last three years show exactly where cutoffs closed, covering every IIT, branch and category.

JEE Advanced 2027 dates aren't out yet
12 September 2026IIT Delhi is expected to organize the exam, going by seven-year rotation among IITs, but the official notification hasn't been issued yet. The figures below will update the moment it is.
Check the 2027 exam calendarAs of 13 September 2026, JEE Advanced exam dates remain unconfirmed. JoSAA counselling registration has opened the day after the result for three straight years. Results came on 9 June 2024, 2 June 2025 and 1 June 2026. Registration opened the very next day each time: 10 June 2024, 3 June 2025 and 2 June 2026. Expect the same one-day gap once IIT Delhi confirms the 2027 exam date. Expect the first real 2027 cutoff numbers two to three weeks after registration opens, once JoSAA finishes its first counselling round.
JEE Advanced 2027 cutoff is the opening rank and closing rank. JoSAA publishes these in All India terms and in category terms, for every IIT, branch and counselling round. It is not a percentage score.

Not a percentage or normalized score
IITs run two separate rank lists for every seat: one gender-neutral and open to every candidate, the other female-only, a supernumerary quota IITs added in 2018 to raise women's enrolment. A closing rank on one list tells you nothing about the other, so check both lists if you are a female candidate.

All rows above are the OPEN category, gender-neutral pool, All India Rank.
¹ Single-tracker figure (jeecounselling.in); not independently cross-checked against a second source.
² Only Round 1 was confirmed for 2026 (Closing Rank 5,030). No source checked had a firm final-round number. Confirm the exact figure on josaa.nic.in.
³ Opening rank for that specific round wasn't consistently reported across available sources.
⁴ Trackers showed only a projected range (7,013 to 7,751) for 2026, not an actual result, when it was last checked in September 2026.
Single-rank differences are noise, not signal
Two independent trackers reported IIT Bombay CSE's 2025 closing rank as 66 and 67, a one-rank gap that likely comes from which JoSAA round each pulled from. Treat a one- or two-rank gap like that as noise. The exact figure for any year sits in JoSAA's own archived round-wise data at josaa.nic.in/or-cr/.

JEE Advanced 2026 : All IITs Branch Wise Cutoff | Rank Vs Marks | Harsh Sir
Your category affects which rank gets you a seat.
JEE Advanced prepares CRL and creates five separate category rank lists for every branch at every IIT: OPEN (General), EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST, plus a PwD list within each. Every candidate's marks stay identical across all of them. Only the comparison group changes.
OPEN category rank and category rank mean different things. For OPEN, JoSAA publishes your actual All India Rank. This measures you against every candidate. For every other category, JoSAA publishes a category rank instead. This measures your position only among candidates in that same category. That number is naturally smaller, since the pool itself is smaller.
IIT Bombay's computer science seat in JoSAA 2026's final round shows how different these numbers look, side by side.
| Category (Gender-Neutral pool) | Opening Rank | Closing Rank | Rank type |
|---|---|---|---|
| OPEN | 1 | 66 | All India Rank |
| EWS | 5 | 20 | Category rank |
| OBC-NCL | 6 | 54 | Category rank |
| SC | 1 | 31 | Category rank |
| ST | 2 | 19 | Category rank |
Read that table by rank type, not by size. An OBC-NCL closing rank of 54 isn't a stronger result than an OPEN closing rank of 66. It's a different comparison group entirely.
The same round's female-only OPEN list for this branch closed at Rank 369, All India Rank, far later than the gender-neutral list's Rank 66. Fewer women choose a highly competitive branch like CSE, relative to the seats IITs set aside for them. This pattern shows up across most engineering branches.
JEE Advanced sets one minimum-marks rule for every IIT.
Some competitive exams let each institute set its own subject-wise minimum score. JEE Advanced does not work that way. JEE Advanced itself sets one uniform rule for the whole country, before any IIT or branch preference enters the picture. You need a minimum percentage of marks in each subject, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You also need a separate minimum aggregate percentage across both papers. If you miss either threshold, you do not appear on any rank list at all, whatever your overall score may be.
The rule that's held steady for years, and one number we won't print
JEE Advanced's Information Brochures have long set this floor for the Common Rank List (General category): at least 10% marks in each subject and 35% aggregate, with lower thresholds for OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST and PwD candidates. The exact 2027 percentages will only appear in that year's brochure. During research, two secondary sources gave conflicting figures for recent years' exact percentages. Rather than print a number we couldn't confirm twice, we're giving you the long-standing rule and flagging that the precise 2027 figures aren't out.
A raw score does not tell you much on its own. For example, 250 out of 360 does not tell you your rank.
JEE Advanced doesn't publish a pass mark. Raw marks only matter relative to everyone else who sat the same paper. JoSAA doesn't see your marks at all, only your rank.
This is the opposite of how JEE Main works. JEE Main runs across multiple sessions and shifts, since lakhs of students cannot all sit one paper at one time. So NTA adjusts each candidate's score against everyone in their own shift, before ranking them nationally. JEE Advanced runs as one paper, for everyone, on one day. It needs no adjustment. Marks convert straight into rank.
Ties do happen. JEE Advanced breaks them in a fixed order: Higher positive marks then Mathematics marks first, then Physics. Tied candidates share a rank only if the two subjects match exactly.
Old IITs and newer IITs usually have a big gap in closing rank. This matters if you are choosing between the two.
The five oldest IITs, Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Madras, have closed with the tightest ranks across nearly every branch in JoSAA's counselling rounds for years now. IIT Bombay's computer science seat closing at Rank 66 in 2026 is one example of just how tight that gets at the very top.
The gap widens fast at newer campuses. IIT Bhilai, founded in 2016, closed its computer science seat at Rank 6,516 in 2024 and Rank 7,382 in 2025, thousands of ranks behind IIT Bombay's same branch.
For fee, placement and ranking detail across all 23 IITs side by side, see JEE Advanced Colleges.
Cutoffs do not move the same way for every branch. Most students look for one headline: whether cutoffs rose or fell this year. That question does not have one answer. Different branches move in different directions within the same counselling season.
IIT Bombay's computer science seat barely moved. Its OPEN category closing rank went from 68 in 2024 to 66 in 2025 and stayed at 66 in 2026, a near-flat line at the very top of the table. IIT Guwahati's mechanical engineering seat moved more, tightening from Rank 4,523 in 2024 to Rank 2,891 in 2025, going by the one tracker with a clean final-round figure for that year. IIT Bhilai's computer science seat went the other way entirely, loosening from Rank 6,516 in 2024 to Rank 7,382 in 2025.
These three branches moved in three different directions, in the same two years. Check the specific IIT and branch you want, not a general headline about cutoffs rising or falling.
Once JEE Advanced 2027 is over, your rank appears on JEE Advanced 2027 Result, before JoSAA counselling opens.
A seat that closed at Rank 4,000 last year can close at Rank 2,500 this year. The reasons have nothing to do with how hard the paper was.
More seats in a branch usually push its closing rank higher, since more candidates get in before the branch fills. IITs add seats most years. JoSAA's combined 2026 seat matrix, across IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs together, rose to 67,323 seats, per JoSAA's own matrix release on 2 June 2026.
A harder paper doesn't automatically loosen the cutoff. Every candidate faces the same paper, so ranks stay relative even when raw marks fall across the board.
JEE Main sets a fixed cap on how many candidates qualify for Advanced. A bigger or smaller qualifying pool that year changes how ranks spread across the same set of seats.
Reservation percentages for OBC-NCL, SC, ST and EWS are fixed by government policy, not by JoSAA. A change in that policy moves every category's rank list at once.
Computer science branches close first and tightest almost everywhere. A core branch like mechanical or civil at the same IIT can close hundreds or thousands of ranks later, simply because fewer top-rank candidates choose it first.
JoSAA runs multiple rounds. Candidates who accept a seat but keep floating for a better one release it back, which can pull a branch's closing rank higher between rounds, even after that branch looked full.
Answers to what readers ask most often.
No, JEE Advanced ranks every candidate directly, with no percentage-based conversion step at all. JoSAA converts the score into an All India Rank, then publishes an opening and closing rank for every IIT, branch, category and gender pool after each counselling round. JEE Main works differently, since it adjusts scores across multiple test sessions before ranking.

It doesn't exist yet, and it can't, until the exam and JoSAA counselling actually happen. JEE Advanced 2027 is expected in May 2027, though the exact date isn't notified as of 13 September 2026. Cutoffs get set only after counselling rounds run in June and July, seat by seat. JoSAA registration has opened the day after the result for the last three years running, so expect a similar one-day gap in 2027. Real cutoff numbers should start appearing two to three weeks after registration opens, once the first counselling round finishes. Until then, the 2024-2026 opening and closing rank trend on it is the closest real guide available.

IIT Delhi is expected to conduct it, but this isn't officially confirmed as of 12 September 2026. The organizing institute follows a seven-year rotation among IITs: Kanpur (2018), Roorkee (2019), Delhi (2020), Kharagpur (2021), Bombay (2022), Guwahati (2023), Madras (2024), Kanpur (2025), Roorkee (2026), and Delhi due again in 2027. JEE Advanced's official notification, usually released a few months before the exam, will confirm it.

Opening rank is the best rank that accepted a seat in a round; closing rank is the weakest rank that still got one. Both work the same way: lower is always stronger, for opening rank and for closing rank alike. A seat with opening rank 1 and closing rank 66 means the strongest candidate to take it ranked 1st nationally, and the last candidate who still got in ranked 66th.
