Indian nationals and OCI/PIO(I) candidates generally must qualify through JEE Main. Foreign nationals and OCI/PIO(F) candidates can register directly for JEE Advanced subject to the separate foreign-national eligibility rules.”
This is the main difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced registration. JEE Main accepts any eligible Class 12 candidate. JEE Advanced accepts only candidates who already cleared the JEE Main cutoff.
As of 13 September 2026, no JEE Advanced 2027-specific information exists yet. This is a pattern-based estimate, not a confirmed date. The confirmed pattern below comes from JEE Advanced 2026, run by IIT Roorkee and held on Sunday 17 May 2026. Track every confirmed 2027 date on the JEE Advanced 2027 dates page. See how the exam itself works on the JEE Advanced 2027 overview page.
The 2026 cycle is the closest confirmed reference.

As of 13 September 2026, JEE Advanced 2027 registration dates are not announced. IIT Delhi has not opened a portal, released a brochure, or named a date. The table below shows the exact registration dates for the last three years. Use it to see the pattern behind the tentative 2027 window further down this section.
No JEE Advanced 2027 registration date yet
13 September 2026IIT Roorkee ran JEE Advanced 2026 registration from 23 April to 2 May 2026, later extended to 5 May. Registration opened in the last week of April and closed in the first week of May in each of the last three years. Expect JEE Advanced 2027 registration to open in late April 2027 and close in early May 2027, based on this pattern. IIT Delhi, the expected 2027 organiser, has not opened a portal or named a date. The official 2027 schedule will likely appear in the JEE Advanced 2027 Information Brochure, expected around early December 2026 to early January 2027. Treat any specific 2027 date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until jeeadv.ac.in states it.
See the full JEE Advanced 2027 date calendar| Year (host IIT) | Registration opens | Registration closes | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 (IIT Madras) | 27 April 2024 | 7 May 2024 | |
| 2025 (IIT Kanpur) | 23 April 2025 | 2 May 2025 | |
| 2026 (IIT Roorkee) | 23 April 2026 | 5 May 2026 | Originally scheduled to close 2 May 2026, extended to 5 May |
Registration opened in the last week of April and closed in the first week of May in all three years. Each window ran for 9 to 11 days.
IIT Delhi is the expected host for JEE Advanced 2027, following a seven-year IIT rotation, though it has not confirmed this as of 13 September 2026. Based on the three-year pattern, registrations will most likely open in the last week of April 2027 and close in the first week of May 2027.
The exact 2027 registration dates will likely appear when IIT Delhi releases the JEE Advanced 2027 Information Brochure. The host institute has officially confirmed the exam date by early December in past cycles: IIT Kanpur on 2 December 2024, IIT Roorkee on 5-6 December 2025. Its full Information Brochure, with the complete registration schedule, has then followed about three to four weeks later. Expect the confirmed 2027 registration dates around early December 2026 to early January 2027.
| Milestone | JEE Advanced 2026 (confirmed, for reference) |
|---|---|
| Registration opens, Foreign/OCI/PIO candidates | 6 April 2026 |
| Registration opens, JEE Main qualified candidates | 23 April 2026, 10:00 IST |
| Registration closes | 2 May 2026, 23:59 IST (extended to 5 May) |
| Fee payment deadline | 4 May 2026, 23:59 IST |
| Exam date | Sunday, 17 May 2026 |
That window ran about 10 days before the extension. This is shorter than usual for this exam. Extensions have typically added 3 to 5 days beyond the original close date, rarely more. Expect a similarly tight turnaround for 2027, once JEE Main 2027 results are out.
You need a JEE Main 2027 rank inside the top 2,50,000, category-wise in Paper 1, before you register. This rule decides most of what follows in this section.
Registration is not open to the general public
JEE Advanced runs no qualifying exam of its own. It runs a registration form only for candidates JEE Main has already ranked inside the cutoff. If your JEE Main 2027 rank misses the category-wise cutoff, the JEE Advanced portal will not process your registration.
IIT Roorkee confirmed this category-wise split for the 2026 cutoff of 2,50,000. Careers360's own eligibility page, citing the same jeeadv.ac.in notification, lists identical numbers:
| Category | Share of the cutoff | Confirmed 2026 count |
|---|---|---|
| Open | 40.5% | 96,187 |
| OBC-NCL | 27% | 64,125 |
| SC | 15% | 35,625 |
| EWS | 10% | 23,750 |
| ST | 7.5% | 17,812 |
| PwD | 5% horizontal, within each row above | Included above |
Add the five main rows and you get about 2,37,500, not a clean 2,50,000. IIT Roorkee publishes the actual count of candidates who qualified that year, not a rounded target. Expect a similarly close, imperfect split for 2027 once JEE Main 2027 results are in.
The rest of the 2026 eligibility rules have not changed for several years:
None of these thresholds has an official 2027 version yet. Treat the list above as last year's confirmed pattern, not a locked promise. jeeadv.ac.in will publish the 2027 figures in its own information brochure, expected alongside the 2027 registration window.
JEE Advanced registration pulls your personal, academic and contact details straight from your JEE Main 2027 application. You do not fill a form from scratch. You confirm those details, add a few exam-specific fields, upload two files, and pay.
Step 1
Log in with your JEE Main credentials
Use your JEE Main 2027 application number and password on jeeadv.ac.in. Your personal, academic and contact details carry over automatically.
Step 2
Add exam-specific details
Enter your Class 12 roll number and rank your preferred exam cities in order.
Step 3
Upload photograph and signature
Match both files to the specifications live on the portal at the time. The section below covers what is confirmed and what is not.
Step 4
Upload category documents, if applicable
OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST or PwD candidates upload the relevant certificate or declaration form.
Step 5
Preview every field
Check your name, category and city choices against your own certificates. This is your one real chance to catch a mistake.
Step 6
Pay the registration fee
Pay online by debit card, credit card or net banking. The fee is non-refundable once paid.
Step 7
Download your confirmation page
Save and print it for your own records. You will need it again at counselling.
Once you submit and pay, the form locks. The form correction section below explains exactly what that means. After registration, the next milestone is the JEE Advanced 2027 admit card. The organising IIT releases it once the registration window closes.
A step-by-step walkthrough of the registration form and the documents it asks for, steps that rarely change year to year, so this is worth watching once 2027's window opens.

The authorities have not notified a JEE Advanced 2027 fee yet. The 2026 fee is the working reference until IIT Delhi releases its 2027 brochure. jeeadv.ac.in's own fee page confirms it.

Fee at exam centres in India, 2026:
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Female (all categories) | Rs 1,600 |
| SC, ST, PwD | Rs 1,600 |
| All other Indian candidates | Rs 3,200 |
| Foreign & OCI/PIO (F), SAARC countries | USD 100 |
| Foreign & OCI/PIO (F), non-SAARC countries | USD 200 |
Fee at exam centres abroad, 2026:
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Indian nationals & OCI/PIO (I) | USD 200 |
| Foreign & OCI/PIO (F), SAARC countries | USD 200 |
| Foreign & OCI/PIO (F), non-SAARC countries | USD 300 |
The Indian fee did not move between 2025 and 2026. The foreign and abroad-centre fee did rise, in some slabs by USD 50 to 100. Both the 2025 and 2026 official brochures confirm this jump side by side.
The fee excludes any service charge or processing fee your bank or payment gateway adds. Once paid, it is non-refundable and non-transferable, whatever happens to your candidature afterward. Pay by debit card, credit card or net banking, on the registration portal itself.
Every applicant must upload a photograph and a signature. Everything else in the list below depends on your category or situation:
Keep the physical originals within reach while you fill the form, even for documents you do not upload. Every name and date you type must match your certificates exactly. A mismatch here is a common reason a registered candidate might face issues at document verification for JoSAA counselling.
JEE Advanced's own Information Brochure does not publish exact file-size or pixel numbers for the photograph and signature upload. Its registration and fee pages do not publish them either, at least not before the portal opens for that year.
Do not copy JEE Main's numbers onto JEE Advanced
JEE Main and JEE Advanced run on separate portals, under separate authorities: NTA for JEE Main, the organising IIT for JEE Advanced. Several sites online quote JEE Main's exact KB and pixel figures for JEE Advanced too. That is an assumption, not a confirmed JEE Advanced number. Check the live jeeadv.ac.in upload screen at the time you register.
These qualitative requirements have stayed consistent across cycles:
The candidate portal itself shows the exact file-size ceiling and pixel dimensions. You see them only after you log in with your JEE Main credentials, during the live registration window. IIT Delhi's brochure or portal will confirm the exact 2027 figures closer to registration. Until then, treat any specific KB number quoted for JEE Advanced 2027 as unverified.
JEE Advanced runs no correction window. Once you complete final submission and pay the fee, your application is confirmed. There is no dashboard query system and no later edit screen, unlike some other national entrance exams.
There is no edit option after final submission
IIT Roorkee's JEE Advanced 2026 registration process carried no correction window at any stage. The Preview screen, before you pay, is your only real chance to fix an error. Treat every field there as final.
This has held across multiple recent cycles, including 2026, and nothing about it is expected to change for 2027. Check your name, category, exam city order and every certificate detail before you pay. A wrong entry that slips through here usually surfaces again at JoSAA document verification, which might cause problems later during counselling.
Answers to what readers ask most often.
No, direct registration is not possible. JEE Advanced only accepts candidates who already hold a JEE Main 2027 rank inside the top 2,50,000, category-wise, in Paper 1. There is no separate qualifying route into JEE Advanced. Clear JEE Main first, then register on jeeadv.ac.in once the window opens. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in
No date is confirmed yet, as of 13 September 2026. Registration ran 27 April to 7 May in 2024, 23 April to 2 May in 2025, and 23 April to 5 May in 2026. Each window opened in the last week of April and closed in the first week of May. JEE Advanced 2027 registration will likely follow this pattern. Expect it to open in late April 2027 and close in early May 2027. IIT Delhi will likely confirm the exact dates in its Information Brochure, expected around early December 2026 to early January 2027. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in
No 2027 fee has been notified yet. The confirmed 2026 fee was Rs 1,600 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates, and Rs 3,200 for all other Indian candidates, at exam centres in India. Foreign and OCI/PIO candidates paid USD 100 to USD 300, depending on country and exam centre location. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in
Yes, but only for some categories. SC, ST, PwD candidates and female candidates in any category pay the lower Rs 1,600 fee. OBC-NCL and EWS candidates who are not female or PwD pay the full Rs 3,200, the same as General category. This discount is narrower than many students expect. Data Sources: jeeadv.ac.in
