GRE Exam Admit Card 2026

The GRE exam admit card does not exist. The test centre matches the name on your passport to your booking. ETS issues no hall ticket and no roll number. After payment, it sends a confirmation email with your appointment number. Your passport and that email are the two things that decide whether you can sit the test. This is the full GRE exam admit card 2027 process, written for candidates in India.

Name mismatch cancels the test and the fee

2026-10-20

Your first and last name at registration must exactly match your passport, excluding accents. If they do not match, you cannot test and ETS does not refund the fee. Contact ETS before you register if your name needs a fix.

ETS GRE ID requirements

This page replaces the usual admit card steps with the real GRE process. A GRE exam admit card search will not find a file, so book first on the GRE 2027 registration page. Then use this page for the confirmation, the ID check and the test-day rules. The GRE has no fixed exam date, so there is no GRE exam admit card release date. The GRE 2027 dates page explains how booking works.

Admit Card

There is no GRE exam admit card to download. You get a confirmation email, and you carry your passport. This is true for every GRE exam admit card 2027 search.

GRE Exam Admit Card 2027: No Hall Ticket, Here Is What You Need

The GRE exam admit card is replaced by an appointment confirmation and an ID check at check-in. ETS runs the GRE as an appointment-based test, so each candidate books a seat and receives a confirmation. There is no common GRE exam admit card for a batch of candidates.

What other exams issueWhat the GRE has instead
Admit card or hall ticketConfirmation email with appointment number
Roll numberAppointment number
Admit card download linkStart Your Test link or At Home Check-in link
Photo and signature on the cardPhoto taken at check-in
Document check at the gatePassport check at the centre or at home

The rules below follow the GRE Information Bulletin for 2026-27, which covers tests until 30 June 2027. ETS has published no separate GRE exam admit card 2027 rule. The same GRE exam admit card process applies to every test in 2027. Read the GRE 2027 exam pattern page for the test itself.

Where is the ETS GRE admit card?

There is no ETS GRE admit card. ETS keeps your registration in your ETS account and sends the confirmation email. These two replace the GRE exam admit card 2027 candidates expect from other exams.

Is there a GRE admit card sample?

No. ETS issues no admit card, so it publishes no GRE admit card sample. A GRE admit card sample on any website is not an ETS document. Your confirmation email is your booking record, in place of a GRE exam admit card. Keep it, and note your appointment number from it.

Is the GRE hall ticket the same as the confirmation email?

Not exactly. A hall ticket lets you enter the exam. The GRE confirmation email only confirms your booking. What lets you in is your valid passport, which must match the name on that booking.

GRE Exam Admit Card 2027 Release Date: When You Get Your Confirmation

You get your GRE confirmation email after you book and pay. ETS has no release date for a GRE exam admit card. The GRE is open all year, so every candidate has a different appointment date. There is no GRE admit card download date to wait for. So your GRE exam admit card 2027 date is simply the day the email reaches you.

The key dates around your appointment are fixed by rule:

  1. At booking

Pay and get the confirmation email

Book online at least 2 calendar days before the test date.

  2. 72 hours before

    At-home ID check

Finish the ID verification app at least 72 hours before the at-home test. If you book within 72 hours, do it at once.

  3. 4 days before

Last day to cancel or reschedule

Cancel or reschedule no later than 4 days before the test date.

  4. 30 minutes before

    Test centre reporting time

Arrive at least 30 minutes before the test time.

  5. 15 minutes before

    At-home sign-in

Sign in at least 15 minutes before the test time, as per the bulletin.

The late-arrival rule differs between two ETS sources. The bulletin says an at-home test is cancelled if you are more than 12 minutes late. The ETS at-home page says the proctor connects from 5 minutes before to 15 minutes after the start time. Plan to be on time and you avoid both rules.

When will I get my GRE confirmation email?

ETS sends it after payment is complete. This email is the nearest thing to a GRE exam admit card. If you do not see it, look in your spam folder. Then log in to your ETS account, because your registration also shows there. See the GRE 2027 fees page for what you pay at booking.

How to Get the GRE Admit Card Equivalent: Confirmation Email and Check-In Steps

You cannot do a GRE exam admit card download. You can follow a fixed set of steps to be ready. Treat these steps as your GRE exam admit card checklist. They take you from booking to the check-in screen.

  1. Check the ID rules first, and confirm that your passport name matches your ETS account name.
  2. Log in to your ETS account and register for the GRE General Test. Choose the test centre or the at-home test.
  3. Pay the fee. ETS then sends your confirmation email.
  4. Open the email and note your appointment number. You need it if you call ETS to change the booking.
  5. For the at-home test, finish the ID verification in the ETS ID app at least 72 hours before the test. The app asks for a photo of your ID and a selfie. It also asks for a chip scan if your ID has a chip, and consent for biometric checks.
  6. On test day, use the Start Your Test link in the email. You can also use the At Home Check-in link in your ETS account.
  7. For a test centre, report at least 30 minutes early with your passport.

How do I do the GRE admit card download if I lose the email?

You do not need the email file for a GRE admit card download. A lost email is not a lost GRE exam admit card. Log in to your ETS account and open your registration. The At Home Check-in link also sits there. For phone changes, ETS asks for your appointment confirmation number, so keep that number safe.

The GRE admit card download link is your ETS account, plus the check-in link for the at-home test. There is no separate GRE exam admit card portal. Your account is at ets.org/mygre, and it is the same account you used to book.

An ETS GRE admit card search leads to these official routes. They stand in for a GRE admit card download.

  • The Start Your Test link in your confirmation email, for the at-home test.
  • The At Home Check-in link in your ETS account.
  • Your appointment number, for any phone change with ETS.

At the start of an at-home test, you open the ETS Secure Browser and run an equipment check. A proctor then reviews the rules and asks for your ID. You show a view of your screen and a 360-degree view of your room. This check takes the place of the GRE exam admit card scan at a gate. ETS says check-in takes about 20 to 30 minutes. If you look for the ETS GRE admit card on the ETS site, you find these links and nothing more. Read the ETS at-home test day page before your appointment.

Details Mentioned on the GRE Confirmation Email

The GRE confirmation email shows your appointment number and your booking details. ETS publishes no sample of this GRE exam admit card substitute. So this page lists only what ETS states: the appointment number and the check-in link for the at-home test. A real GRE admit card sample from ETS does not exist.

Item on the confirmationWhy you need it
Appointment numberNeeded for any phone change to your booking
Start Your Test link (at home)Opens the check-in on test day
Your registered nameMust match your passport exactly

ETS does not state the other fields of the email on its public pages. Treat the email as a booking record, not as a GRE exam admit card. It does not let you in. Your passport does. Check your name, test date and test mode when it arrives. If the name has a spelling error, contact ETS before the test and not on the day.

Documents Required for GRE 2027 Exam: Passport and ID Rules for India

Indian candidates need a valid passport as the ID that stands in for a GRE exam admit card. ETS lists a passport with name, photograph and signature as the acceptable primary ID for test takers in India. If you test outside your country of citizenship, you must show a valid passport, with no exceptions.

ETS says your ID must meet all of these rules. The ID does the job of the card at every check-in.

  • It is an original, physical document, not a photocopy.
  • It is government-issued, with a recent photo and your signature.
  • It is valid and not expired.
  • Your name matches your registration exactly, excluding accents.

ETS encourages every test taker to carry at least two forms of acceptable ID. For India, the passport is the primary one. ETS may also ask for a supplemental ID, but it cannot fix a name mismatch.

Is Aadhaar accepted as ID for the GRE?

No. ETS lists the Aadhaar card among IDs that are never accepted. Some websites for Indian students say otherwise. The ETS list is the one that counts.

Which IDs are not accepted for the GRE?

ETS does not accept photocopied or expired documents, damaged IDs, or an ID shown on a phone. It also rejects these:

  • International driver's licence and draft card.
  • International student ID and employee ID.
  • Credit or debit card.
  • Birth certificate, notary letter and temporary ID.
  • Diplomatic or consulate ID, and any document not recognised by a government agency.

GRE Exam Day Guidelines 2027

The GRE exam day guidelines differ for a test centre and for the home test. The tabs below show both. Carry your passport, not a GRE exam admit card print-out, and nothing else that ETS bans. The testing room is strict. The rules come from the 2026-27 bulletin and the ETS test day pages.

Arrive at least 30 minutes early. Carry your passport, and wear a mask only if you choose to. ETS takes your photo and checks your ID. It may ask for a voice sample. You empty your pockets, raise your trouser legs above the ankles and push sleeves above the wrists. A hand-held metal detector is used. You sign a confidentiality agreement, and if you refuse, you cannot test and the fee is not refunded. The centre gives you scratch paper, and you return every page.

ETS bans these items in the testing room. They are phones, tablets, wearable technology and watches. Books, notes, pens, rulers, food, drink and your own calculator are also banned. The test has an on-screen calculator in the Quant section only. Jewellery is not allowed except wedding and engagement rings.

Your passport replaces the GRE exam admit card at the door, so keep it in your hand. The GRE has no scheduled break. If you leave your seat, the timer does not stop. The full test runs for 1 hour 58 minutes, so plan your food and water before you arrive. The GRE 2027 exam pattern page lists each section timing.

Can I take a break during the GRE?

No. ETS says the General Test has no break. If you leave your seat at a test centre, the section timer keeps running. At home, unscheduled breaks are not permitted.

GRE Exam Admit Card 2027: Common Issues and Solutions

Most GRE exam admit card problems are really ID or name problems. The answer to any ETS GRE admit card question is the same. Check the name on your booking against your passport. Fix them before the test, because ETS does not hold your seat while you fetch a document. No GRE admit card download is needed, so a failed download is never the issue. The table gives the official fix for each case.

IssueOfficial fix
Name does not match passportContact ETS Office of Testing Integrity before you register
No acceptable IDContact the Office of Testing Integrity at least 7 days before you register
At-home equipment check failsFix it before the appointment, or you cannot test and get no refund
Internet drops at homeThe test reconnects on its own; if not, start check-in again
Centre technical failureFree new appointment or full refund

The Office of Testing Integrity can be reached at TSReturns@ets.org or +1-609-406-5430. The toll-free number 1-800-750-6991 works from the US and Canada. No India helpdesk number was found on the ETS pages read for this page. Use the email or the ETS contact page.

If your ID fails at check-in, you lose the fee. If you arrive late, the centre may refuse you, and the fee is forfeited. A centre need not hold your seat while you fetch ID. Read the GRE 2027 fees page for refund and reschedule rules.

GRE Admit Card: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need to print the GRE confirmation email?

ETS does not ask for a print-out of a GRE exam admit card. It asks for your ID. Keep the email and your appointment number ready in case you must call ETS.

2. Can I take the GRE with a passport that expires soon?

Only if it is still valid on test day. ETS rejects expired IDs. Renew an old passport well before you book.

3. Can I carry my phone into the GRE test centre?

No. Phones are banned in the testing room. The only personal items allowed are your ID and a mask, if you choose to wear one.

4. Do I need an ETS GRE admit card to enter the at-home test?

No. Use the Start Your Test link in your confirmation email. You can also use the At Home Check-in link in your ETS account. The proctor then asks for your passport.

5. Where can I see a GRE admit card sample before test day?

You cannot, because ETS issues no admit card. There is no GRE admit card sample from ETS. Keep your own confirmation email and passport ready instead.

6. What if I book the at-home test within 72 hours?

Do the ID verification at once. ETS asks you to complete it immediately if you register within 72 hours of the test.

After the test, your scores come in about 8 to 10 days. Nothing from the GRE exam admit card stage is needed to see them. See the GRE 2027 results page for how to read them.

It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
