Your GRE exam date is the day you choose from the seat calendar in your ETS account. The calendar shows which days are free near you. ETS runs the test every day at 1,000+ locations and at home. So no GRE exam date 2027 is fixed in advance. Register at least 2 calendar days before the day you want. Official scores arrive about 8-10 days after the test.

GRE exam dates 2027 are open all year. ETS offers the General Test on a first-come, first-served basis. The policy year runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.
There are no fixed GRE exam dates 2027 in India. The test is the same worldwide, so GRE exam dates India candidates see work like GRE exam dates anywhere else. You pick a date and a test centre or the at-home option. Then you see the seat availability for your preferred date and place.
ETS has not published a separate India calendar. The ETS India website repeats the global rules. GRE exam dates 2026 and 2027 follow one rule: the candidate picks the day.
The list below sums up the GRE exam date rules for 2027 in India.
You can take the GRE once every 21 days. The limit is five times in any rolling 12-month period (365 days). This holds even if you cancelled your scores on an earlier test. So your next GRE exam date 2027 must fall at least 21 days after the last one.
The table gives the main dates and limits for the 2026-27 testing year.
| Item | What ETS says | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Testing year covered | 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 | Confirmed |
| Fixed GRE exam date | None, appointments all year | Confirmed |
| Retake gap | 21 days, five tests in 12 months | Confirmed |
| 2027-28 Information Bulletin | Not published yet | Not announced |
The GRE Subject Tests are a different test, and they run only in short windows. ETS lists three windows for 2026-27, and the second one is open today.
14-27 September 2026
Subject Test window 1
Scores on 5 October 2026.
19 October-1 November 2026
Subject Test window 2
Open on 20 October 2026. Scores on 9 November 2026.
19 April-2 May 2027
Subject Test window 3
Scores on 10 May 2027.
These windows cover the Mathematics, Physics and Psychology Subject Tests, as per the ETS bulletin. The General Test needs none of them. ETS has not published Subject Test windows after 2 May 2027.
A GRE exam date booking costs US$249 for India, as per the ETS fee page effective 1 August 2026. ETS India says the fee includes sending scores to up to 4 programmes. No official rupee amount is published. Dates and fees together make the first step of your plan, so read the GRE fees page next.

You must register online at least two calendar days before your preferred test date. For phone registration, the GRE exam date booking gap is at least two business days.
Book your GRE exam date 2027 as soon as you know your target school's deadline. The two-day rule is a minimum, not a safe plan. Seats are first-come, first-served, so a free seat on your date is not guaranteed.
A simple plan works backwards from the school deadline. Add 8-10 days for the score. Add any retake gap of 21 days. Then complete GRE exam date booking for the first test with room for one retake.
GRE exam date booking takes five steps in your ETS account.
The GRE registration page explains each step in full.
Work backwards from 17 January 2027. This plan is simple arithmetic, not an ETS rule. A first test in mid-December 2026 leaves room for a retake after the 21-day gap. Scores from that retake would arrive about 8-10 days later, still before the round deadline.
The last date to reschedule or cancel is 4 days before the test date. The ETS bulletin gives one example. For a Saturday appointment in the US, the deadline is the Tuesday before.
A rescheduled test must fall within one year of the original test date. Rescheduling costs US$55, as per the ETS fee page. A cancellation before the deadline refunds half the test fee. A later cancellation gets no refund. Full rules sit on the GRE registration page.
ETS publishes a new bulletin each testing year, and fees can change without notice. The fee is US$249 from 1 August 2026, as per the ETS fee page. No fee for tests after 30 June 2027 has been announced.
ETS asks for at least two calendar days' notice online. GRE exam date booking follows that rule. Check the seat calendar in your ETS account for the earliest open day.
There is no yearly last date for GRE registration. There is only the two-day rule for each booking. Your own last date comes from your school's application deadline.
The GRE has no admit card, so there is no admit card date. ETS sends a confirmation email after you pay, and that email is your proof of booking. The email carries your appointment number.
You get the confirmation email right after you complete payment. For an at-home test, the email has a "Start Your Test" link. The same "At Home Check-in" link also sits in your ETS account. Phone changes need your appointment confirmation number.
Complete the at-home identity check at least 72 hours before the test. You do this in the IDVaaS app. If you register within 72 hours of the test, do the check straight away.
The app asks for an ID photo, a chip scan of the passport, a selfie and biometric consent. For India, the ID must be a valid passport. The name on the booking must match the passport exactly, excluding accents. The GRE admit card page has the full ID rules.
The GRE exam date 2027 and timing rules are the same for every candidate. The test runs 1 hour 58 minutes with no scheduled break and no unscored section. It starts at the time on your appointment.
ETS does not publish one fixed start time. Each appointment has its own time. You see the free slots for your date and place in the seat calendar. Arrive at least 30 minutes early at a test centre. Late arrival can mean refusal and loss of the fee.
Fix your ID and equipment well before the day. For India, carry the original passport, and keep the name the same as on the booking. For the at-home test, use a desktop or laptop with a webcam and a microphone. You also need a second camera, such as a smartphone. Run the equipment check before the appointment, because a failed check on the day means no test and no refund. Phones, watches, notes and food are not allowed at a test centre.
The ETS bulletin and the ETS web page give two different late rules. Read both before test day.
| Source | Rule for the at-home test |
|---|---|
| ETS Information Bulletin 2026-27 | Sign in at least 15 minutes before. If you are more than 12 minutes late, the test is cancelled. |
| ETS at-home test day page | You can connect to a proctor from 5 minutes before the test time to 15 minutes after. |
Plan to sign in at least 15 minutes early and you meet both rules. At-home check-in takes about 20-30 minutes, as per the ETS test day page. The GRE exam pattern page shows the section timings inside the 1 hour 58 minutes.
The GRE has no answer key, so there is no answer key date. ETS keeps the test content confidential. You do not see the questions or the correct answers after the test.
You get two dated items. The first is your official score, about 8-10 days after the test. The second is the free GRE Diagnostic Service. It opens about 15 days after the test and stays open for six months.
The Diagnostic Service shows the question types you got right and wrong, the difficulty level and the time per question. It does not show the actual questions. The GRE answer key page explains the score review options.
Official GRE scores arrive in your ETS account and go to your chosen schools about 8-10 days after your test. ETS sends an email when they are ready.
Your GRE result date is about 8-10 days after the test. On test day, Verbal and Quant unofficial scores show on screen if you choose to report them. The Analytical Writing score does not show, because trained raters and a scoring engine mark the essay.
Once you view your scores, you cannot cancel them. You cannot cancel one section only.
GRE score validity is five years from the test date. This score validity period is the same for every test taker. The ETS bulletin gives an example. A test taken on 3 July 2022 can be reported through 2 July 2027. Schools set their own rules for score age, so check each school. GRE score validity matters most when you test early and apply later. See the GRE colleges page for examples.
These windows start from the test date. They are the dates people miss.
The GRE results page has the score scale and percentile table.
The GRE has no counselling and no admission dates of its own. Each school sets its own rounds. ISB gives clear dates for the 2027-28 cycle. They show how GRE exam dates 2027 in India fit a real application cycle.
ISB has three rounds, and the same GRE exam date logic applies to each. The round deadlines and the GRE test windows it accepts are below.
| ISB round | Round deadline | GRE must be dated |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 20 September 2026 (passed) | 21 September 2021 to 20 September 2026 |
| Round 2 | 6 December 2026 | 7 December 2021 to 6 December 2026 |
| Round 3 | 17 January 2027 | 18 January 2022 to 17 January 2027 |
ISB also allows an unofficial test-day score if you take the test on or before the round deadline. Official scores must still be sent to ISB. ISB accepts test-centre scores only.
To test on 6 December 2026, register by 4 December 2026 under the two-day rule. This is arithmetic from the ETS rule, not an ETS example.
IIM Ahmedabad's PGPX has two rounds for 2027-28, but the round dates were not captured for this page. Its rule counts age and work experience on 31 March 2027. Read the PGPX admission page for the dates. For other schools, check each admission page. GRE colleges 2027 page lists the rules of the main ones.
The GRE exam date system for India has not changed in structure since September 2023. Appointments stayed year-round. The test still runs 1 hour 58 minutes.
No. The GRE exam dates 2026 in India followed the same appointment rule as GRE exam dates 2027 in India. The policy year changes on 1 July, and the current fee applies from 1 August 2026. The booking method did not change. GRE exam dates and fees are the part to recheck each year.
These rules held across 2023 to 2026, as per the ETS pages read.
ETS India pages still carry the label "Information Bulletin (2024-25)" in places. The linked PDF is the 2026-27 bulletin, so trust the PDF dates.
ETS said in 2023 that the shortened test was the first of several planned updates. No later change is announced as of 20 October 2026. Do not plan around a 2027 format change. The next bulletin may appear around mid-2027. This is expected from the 26 June 2026 date of the current file. It is not an ETS announcement.

It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
