The start of IIT JAM exam registration appears in three ways on official pages. The homepage and the brochure say 11 September 2026. The notice table says effective 12 September 2026, published on 11 September. An older procedure page says tentatively 5 September 2026. Use 11 September 2026.
The last date is 22 October 2026. The brochure still says 19 October 2026, but the website notice of 19 October extended it. The brochure shows no extension for fee payment. Check your payment on JOAPS. The IIT JAM 2027 dates page tracks any further change.
The correction date is separate from the last date. New IIT JAM exam registration is not possible after the last date.
Any Indian or foreign national with a UG degree can complete IIT JAM exam registration. Final-year students of 2027 can also register. There is no age limit, no attempt limit and no minimum percentage at this stage. Backlogs are allowed.
Eligibility for IIT JAM exam registration is not admission eligibility. Each admitting institute checks its own minimum educational qualification (MEQ) after the result. Foreign nationals must also meet the institute's rules for foreign students. Run these checks before you pay.
For example, IIT Madras Physics asks for Physics for two years and Mathematics for one year. It places no restriction on engineering degrees. Our IIT JAM colleges 2027 page has more MEQ examples.
Yes. A candidate appearing in the final UG exam in 2027 can register. The UG programme must be complete before the admission date of the admitting institute. Keep your marks proof ready for that stage.
No. IIT JAM exam registration has no age restriction and no attempt limit in 2027. You can register again in any year if you want a better rank.
To complete IIT JAM exam registration, create a JOAPS account, fill the form, upload documents and pay the fee. Follow the steps in order.
The second and third city choices must be in the same zone as the first. There are eight zones, centred on IISc Bengaluru, IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee. JAM has no international centres.
Log in to JOAPS and read the status line. It moves through Received, Under Scrutiny, Accepted, Defect Status and Rectified. Only an Accepted application completes IIT JAM exam registration. Fix any Defect Status quickly.
IIT JAM exam registration lets you choose three cities. The brochure says JAM 2027 will use around 114 cities. The website says approximately 100 cities. Your admit card shows the final centre.
Check your IIT JAM registration documents against these rules before you submit the IIT JAM registration form. Your name must match your qualifying degree. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be dated on or after 1 April 2026. The photograph and signature must meet the size ranges below. The second and third cities must be in the first city's zone.
The IIT JAM exam registration fee for 2027 is ₹1,000 or ₹2,000 for one paper. For two papers it is ₹1,350 or ₹2,700. The fee is the same as in JAM 2026. These IIT JAM registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
| Category | One paper | Two papers |
|---|---|---|
| Female, SC, ST, PwD | ₹1,000 | ₹1,350 |
| All others | ₹2,000 | ₹2,700 |
Under IIT JAM exam registration, a female General candidate who writes one paper pays ₹1,000. A male OBC-NCL candidate who writes two papers pays ₹2,700. An extra paper adds ₹350 for the first group and ₹700 for the second group. These two figures are our arithmetic from the table.
A change of category, gender, exam city, date of birth or paper costs ₹300 plus the difference in application fee. The official site mentions no separate processing fee. IIT JAM registration fees exclude bank or gateway charges, which you pay.
You can pay IIT JAM registration fees by net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI or wallet. Enable e-commerce transactions on your card before you pay. Payment queries go to gatejamfee@adm.iitkgp.ac.in.
Each change in IIT JAM exam registration costs ₹300 plus any difference in application fee. Adding or changing a paper must be done before 10 November 2026. See the IIT JAM 2027 fees page for admission-stage fees.
Male OBC-NCL and EWS candidates pay the All Others fee. The concession applies to female candidates of any category and to SC, ST and PwD candidates.
No. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances.
The amount is credited back. The brochure says within ten working days. The website says one week or more after the registration process closes.
Admission has its own fees. JOAPS charges ₹750 as an admission processing fee. The advance seat booking fee is ₹15,000 for General, OBC-NCL and EWS, and ₹7,500 for SC, ST and PwD.
The IIT JAM application form needs a photograph, signature, date-of-birth proof and photo ID. SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS and PwD candidates add a certificate. The IIT JAM registration documents list is short, so keep scans ready before IIT JAM registration 2027 closes.
| Document | Rule |
|---|---|
| Photograph | JPEG, see the size table below |
| Signature | Black or dark blue ink on white paper |
| Date-of-birth proof | 10th or SSC mark sheet showing date of birth |
| Photo ID | Aadhaar, Driving Licence, PAN Card, Passport or Voter ID |
| Category certificate | SC, ST, OBC-NCL or EWS, as PDF of 10 to 300 KB |
| Disability certificate | For PwD candidates, with the UDID |
Carry the original photo ID you submitted to the exam centre. A printed admit card alone is not enough. The IIT JAM registration documents also matter later, because the admitting institutes check proofs at admission.
In your IIT JAM registration documents, the OBC-NCL or EWS certificate must be dated on or after 1 April 2026. Get a fresh one before you upload if yours is older. The IIT JAM 2027 counselling page lists the documents checked at admission.
The brochure and the website give different file-size limits for the IIT JAM photo and signature. Upload files that meet both ranges during IIT JAM exam registration. The JOAPS upload screen is the final rule in practice.
| Item | Brochure | Website |
|---|---|---|
| Photo file size | 20 to 200 KB | 50 to 200 KB |
| Signature file size | 10 to 150 KB | 50 to 150 KB |
The brochure sets the other photograph rules. The photo is 3.5 x 4.5 cm in JPEG, with 240 x 320 to 480 x 640 pixels. It is a colour photo on a white or light background. The face covers at least half the frame. The aspect ratio is 0.66 to 0.89.
The signature is 2 x 7 cm, with 80 x 280 to 160 x 560 pixels. It must be in black or dark blue ink on white paper. The aspect ratio is 3.15 to 4.04.
Keep the photo between 50 and 200 KB and the signature between 50 and 150 KB. A file in these ranges meets the brochure and the website. Use a clear scan, not a photo of a photo.
The IIT JAM form correction 2027 window opens on 10 November 2026 on a payment basis. It comes after IIT JAM exam registration closes. The date is tentative. You can change your category, gender, exam city, date of birth or test paper in the IIT JAM registration form. Each change costs ₹300 plus the fee difference.
Adding or changing a paper must be done before 10 November 2026. The JAM FAQ says application defects will be rectified tentatively before that date.
Log in to JOAPS after the correction window opens. The organiser has not published the correction screen steps yet. Pay the difference in application fee if your change raises it. Check your status afterwards. It shows Defect Status if a defect is found, and Rectified after the correction.
Read the IIT JAM 2027 admit card page next. It explains how to download the card after correction.

Atul has built a step-by-step content process that uses AI tools with a human in the loop. Every page goes through several stages. It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
