What happened in the NEET UG 2026 cycle?

NTA cancelled the 3 May 2026 exam on 12 May 2026 and held a re-exam on 21 June 2026. NEET UG Eligibility Criteria 2027

NTA has published no NEET UG exam eligibility rule for 2027 yet. The qualifying percentile for the last cycle is given below. For 2026, a candidate had to be 17 years old on or before 31 December 2026. The candidate also needed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English. There was no upper age limit, as per the bulletin and the NMC letter of 13 January 2026.

  • Minimum age: 17 years on or before 31 December of the admission year, the same for all categories.
  • Upper age limit: None in 2026.
  • Education: Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English.
  • Qualifying percentile: 50th for General and EWS. 40th for SC, ST and OBC-NCL.
  • With PwBD: 45th for General and EWS. 40th for the reserved categories.

What is the age limit for NEET UG?

The minimum age for the NEET UG exam is 17 years on or before 31 December of the exam year. There is no upper limit. For 2027, the same rule would mean birth on or before 31 December 2010. That is an extension of the 2026 rule, not a published 2027 rule. Wait for the NEET UG exam bulletin before you rely on it.

Is there an attempt limit in NEET UG?

The 2026 bulletin sets no cap on attempts at the NEET UG exam. A parliamentary committee has recommended looking at age and attempt limits, as reported on 10 October 2026. That is a recommendation, and NTA has made no change.

Read the NEET UG 2027 registration page for the document and photo rules.

NEET UG Exam Registration Process and Application Form in 2027

NEET UG exam registration for 2027 has not started as of 20 October 2026. In 2026, NTA ran registration from 8 February to 11 March 2026 on the official NEET website only. The registration last date was 11 March 2026 after an extension. Each candidate could fill one application form, as per the bulletin.

Follow these steps once the NEET UG exam form for 2027 opens. They are based on the 2026 process.

  1. Register on neet.nta.nic.in and note the system-generated application number.
  2. Fill in personal, parent, education, category and exam city details.
  3. Choose the exam medium from the 13 languages.
  4. Upload a live photograph, signature and thumb impression in the sizes given in the bulletin.
  5. Pay the fee online by card, net banking or UPI.
  6. Download and print the Confirmation Page. It is proof that your form was submitted.

When will NEET UG 2027 registration start?

NTA has not announced the NEET UG 2027 dates for registration, including the registration last date. In 2025, registration ran from 7 February to 7 March 2025. In 2026, it ran from 8 February to 11 March 2026 after an extension. Both cycles started in the first half of February. This is a pattern, not a 2027 date.

How much is the NEET UG application fee?

The NEET UG exam fee in 2026 was ₹1,700 for General and ₹1,600 for EWS and OBC-NCL. SC, ST, PwBD and Third Gender candidates paid ₹1,000. Centres outside India charged ₹9,500. Processing charges and GST were extra. The 2025 fee was the same. NTA has not published the 2027 fee. See the NEET UG 2027 fees page for payment and refund rules.

Registration: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I fill more than one NEET UG application form?

No. The bulletin allows one application per candidate. It says candidates will not be allowed to fill more than one form under any circumstance.

2. Can I apply after the registration last date?

Do not plan on it. In 2026, NTA extended the registration last date from 8 March to 11 March 2026. An extension is an NTA decision and is never promised. Apply well before the first announced date.

3. Was the NEET UG 2026 fee refunded after the cancelled exam?

NTA ran a refund process for the 3 May exam fee. Candidates had to submit bank details on the NEET portal, and NTA extended the window several times. The last extension ended on 31 July 2026. NTA charged no fresh fee for the 21 June re-exam.

How to Download NEET UG 2027 Admit Card

NTA will release the NEET UG 2027 admit card on neet.nta.nic.in only after it announces the NEET 2027 exam date. No admit card exists yet. In 2026, NTA released the city slip on 12 April and the admit card on 26 April. That was seven days before the 3 May exam.

For the 21 June re-exam, the city slip came on 7 June and the admit card on 14 June 2026. NTA said the 3 May admit card was not valid for the re-exam.

To download the admit card, open neet.nta.nic.in and go to the admit card link. Log in with your application number and password. The card shows your exam date and time and your centre. Take a printout, because you need it at the centre.

When is the NEET UG admit card released?

NTA released the admit card about a week before the NEET UG exam in the last two cycles. It was 30 April for the 4 May 2025 exam and 26 April for the 3 May 2026 exam. So the NEET UG exam admit card for 2027 can be expected 4 to 7 days before the exam. This is an expectation from past cycles. The NEET UG admit card 2027 page will update when NTA announces it.

What should I carry to the NEET UG exam centre?

Carry your printed admit card, one passport photo, one 4 inch by 6 inch photo and an original photo ID. Phones, watches, wallets and belts are not allowed. Diabetic candidates may carry sugar tablets, fruits and a transparent water bottle. Frisking, videography and biometric checks are part of entry. For the 21 June 2026 re-exam, reporting ran from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and gates closed at 1:30 PM.

NEET UG Exam Pattern 2027: Marks & Duration

The NEET UG exam pattern in 2026 was one paper of 180 compulsory questions for 720 marks in 180 minutes. NTA has not published a 2027 pattern. The pattern did not change between 2025 and 2026.

SubjectQuestionsMarks
Physics45180
Chemistry45180
Biology (Botany and Zoology)90360
Total180720

All questions in the NEET UG exam are compulsory, and there is no choice. Biology carries half of the total marks. The tie-break order in the NEET UG exam also starts with Biology marks. Chemistry and Physics follow, as per the bulletin.

Will NEET UG 2027 be in CBT mode?

Not confirmed. NTA has issued no notice on the mode of the NEET UG exam in 2027. It was pen and paper in 2026. On 25 July 2026, All India Radio reported that the Education Minister had resigned. His post said future exams "will be computer-based from next year". In August 2026, the Centre told the Supreme Court about its plan. NEET UG will "gradually move towards computer-based and multi-session examinations wherever feasible". It added that no final decision had been implemented. Treat CBT in 2027 as a possibility, not a fact. The mode will be stated in the Information Bulletin, along with the exam date and time.

Is there negative marking in NEET UG?

Yes. In the NEET UG exam, a correct answer gets 4 marks and a wrong one loses 1 mark. An unanswered question gets zero. If a question is wrong or dropped, NTA gives 4 marks to all candidates who appeared. The full NEET UG exam pattern page explains each rule with examples.

View

NEET UG Exam Question Pattern in 2027

Every question in the NEET UG exam is multiple choice, with four options and one correct or most appropriate answer. This was the rule in the 2026 bulletin. NTA has announced no change for 2027.

The paper has 45 Physics, 45 Chemistry and 90 Biology questions. Biology covers Botany and Zoology together. The 2026 bulletin sets three rules for faulty questions:

  • If more than one option is correct, only candidates who marked a correct option get 4 marks.
  • If all options are correct, all candidates who attempted the question get 4 marks.
  • If no option is correct, NTA treats the question as wrong or dropped. All appeared candidates then get 4 marks.

The NEET UG exam was held in 13 languages in 2026. English candidates get an English-only booklet. Candidates who choose Hindi or a regional language get a bilingual booklet. For the re-exam, NTA gave a 195-minute window and four rough-work pages instead of two. That was a measure for 21 June 2026 only.

NEET UG Exam Syllabus 2027

NMC finalised the NEET UG exam syllabus for 2026 on 22 December 2025. No syllabus for 2027 is published as of 20 October 2026. The 2026 syllabus has 50 units: 20 in Physics, 20 in Chemistry and 10 in Biology. You can open the with the NMC notice.

The bulletin states that the syllabus has no change from the previous year. The NTA homepage "Syllabus" link still opens the 2025 file, so use the 2026 file linked above.

Will the NEET UG syllabus change in 2027?

NMC has not issued a NEET UG 2027 syllabus as of 20 October 2026. A change is not announced. Any claim about deleted chapters for 2027 has no official source. Prepare for the NEET UG exam from the 2026 syllabus and watch the NMC website for updates. The NEET UG 2027 syllabus page lists every unit.

Is the NEET UG syllabus based on NCERT?

The official documents do not say so. The 2026 bulletin, the syllabus file and the MCC bulletin name no textbook. Many students use NCERT Class 11 and 12 books as the base. That is a common preparation approach, not an NTA rule.

You check the result and scorecard on the official NEET website using your application details. NTA scores in the NEET UG exam are marks-based percentiles, and the qualifying percentile decides who can join counselling. NTA does not publish a merit list for counselling. State counselling uses its own state merit lists.

Is 700 a good score in NEET UG?

A score above 700 is rare. Only 19 candidates scored above 700 in the NEET UG exam of 2026, out of 19,99,895 who appeared. Whether a score is good for you depends on your category, quota and the college you want. Check the NEET UG result 2027 page for the score bands and the percentile method.

NEET UG Cutoff 2027

NEET UG cutoff has two meanings. The NTA qualifying percentile decides if you can join counselling. The MCC or state closing rank decides whether you get a seat in a particular college. The 2027 cutoff cannot be stated, because the exam is not announced.

Category (percentile)2026 marks range2025 marks range
General and EWS (50th)715 to 213686 to 144
SC, ST and OBC (40th to below 50th)212 to 177143 to 113
General and EWS with PwBD (45th to below 50th)212 to 194143 to 127
Reserved with PwBD (40th to below 45th)193 to 177126 to 113

These are qualifying marks as per NTA's Key Data Points for 2026. The marks change each year, but the percentile rule stays the same.

What is the NEET UG cutoff?

The NEET UG cutoff is the minimum qualifying percentile. It is the 50th percentile for General and EWS, and the 40th for SC, ST and OBC-NCL. In the 2026 NEET UG exam this meant 213 marks for General and EWS. It meant 177 marks for the reserved categories. A qualifying score does not give you a seat. Read the NEET UG cutoff 2027 page for category tables and trends.

MCC issued an advisory on 13 October 2026. It called a notice about "percentile reduction" in 2026 counselling fake. MCC said no such decision had been taken.

NEET UG 2027 Selection Process

The NEET UG 2027 selection process has three stages: the exam, the result and counselling, in that order. NTA conducts only the NEET UG exam and issues the scorecard. MCC and state authorities allot the seats. The NEET UG 2027 dates for counselling are also awaited. The 2026 counselling shows how the process runs.

  1. Appear in the NEET UG exam and meet the qualifying percentile.
  2. Register for MCC counselling for All India Quota and central seats, and for your state counselling.
  3. Pay the registration fee and security deposit, then fill and lock your choices.
  4. Check your seat allotment in each round and report to the college.

MCC ran Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a Stray Vacancy round in 2026. Round 1 registration began on 4 August 2026. Round 2 ran from 3 to 11 September 2026. Round 3 ran from 22 September to 15 October 2026. The Stray Vacancy result came on 19 October 2026, with reporting from 19 to 26 October 2026.

Who runs NEET UG counselling, NTA or MCC?

MCC runs counselling for the 15% All India Quota, deemed universities, central universities, ESIC, AIIMS and JIPMER. State authorities run counselling for state-quota seats. NTA runs neither. In 2026, the MCC registration fee was ₹1,000 for General and EWS, and ₹500 for reserved categories. The refundable security deposit was ₹10,000 and ₹5,000. Deemed universities charged ₹5,000 for registration and a ₹2,00,000 deposit.

MCC introduced a Freeze and Float scheme in 2026. Whether it continues in 2027 is not announced. See NEET UG 2027 counselling for the full process.

NEET UG Exam Previous Year Question Paper

The official list of NEET UG exam previous year question papers is short. NTA's NEET website archive holds the NEET 2020 papers. We found no official 2021 to 2025 papers there as of 20 October 2026. NTA's notice of 25 June 2026 says the four sets of the 21 June 2026 paper are uploaded on nta.ac.in.

Where can I download NEET UG previous year question papers?

Open the NTA NEET archive for the official 2020 papers, and check nta.ac.in for the 2026 sets. Use only papers hosted by NTA. Copies on other websites may be changed or incomplete, and they are not official. See the NEET UG 2027 question papers and NEET UG answer key pages.

NTA released the 2026 provisional answer key on 25 June 2026. The challenge window ran from 25 to 28 June 2026, and the fee was ₹200 per question. The final key came with the result on 16 July 2026.

NEET UG 2027 Preparation Strategy & Best Books

Until NTA publishes the NEET UG 2027 dates, plan your preparation on the 2026 syllabus and pattern. NTA has published nothing newer. The syllabus has 50 units, and Biology carries 360 of the 720 marks. A sensible plan is to revise Biology first. Use the remaining time on Physics and Chemistry numericals.

The marking is +4, -1 and 0, so a correct answer earns 4 marks and a wrong answer loses 1. Practise leaving a question when you cannot remove at least two options. The paper gives you 180 minutes for 180 questions, which is one minute a question on average. Take timed full-length papers to check your pace for the NEET UG exam.

Is there an official book list for NEET UG?

No. NTA and NMC have not published a reading list for the NEET UG exam. The 2026 bulletin names no textbook. Students commonly start with NCERT Class 11 and 12 books and add one reference book per subject. The NEET UG books page compares options by subject and prep style.

Use the official NTA papers for practice. Use the unit list of the NMC syllabus to track what you have covered.
