NTA has no official list of NEET UG books. The 2026 Information Bulletin and the NMC syllabus file name no textbook, not even NCERT. Many students assume NCERT is the officially set base. No NTA or NMC document we read says that. NCERT is the standard classroom base. So most lists of NEET UG books start there and add one practice book per subject.
The official part is the syllabus: 20 Physics units, 20 Chemistry units and 10 Biology units. Pick NEET UG books that match those units. Use the NEET UG syllabus page as your checklist. Nothing on this page is an official recommendation.
The NEET UG 2027 syllabus is not published yet
As of 20 October 2026NMC finalised the NEET UG 2026 syllabus on 22 December 2025. NMC has not issued a 2027 syllabus. Choose NEET UG 2027 books against the 2026 syllabus and check again when a 2027 syllabus appears.
Open the NEET UG 2026 syllabus (PDF)This tab compares NEET UG books by subject and by prep style. Every title named here is a standard, widely used book.
A common plan for NEET UG 2027 books is NCERT in all three subjects plus one practice book each. The best books for NEET UG 2027 follow the official 2026 syllabus and bulletin. The numbers below show where your reading time should go.

No single book is best, and NTA recommends none. The best NEET UG books for you match your level and are books you can finish twice. Treat any list of the best books for NEET UG 2027 as one person's view. A usual base is NCERT for Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Classes 11 and 12. Add one practice book per subject after your first read.
No official source says NCERT alone is enough. NCERT gives the base theory and the standard terms. Most plans for NEET UG books keep it as the base. Students add practice questions and NTA papers on top of it. Solve a real paper from the NEET UG question papers page to test whether NCERT alone works for you.
To pick the best books for NEET UG 2027, run three checks. Does the book match the NMC syllabus? Does it suit your level? Can you finish it twice before the exam? A book that fails any one check will cost you time.
A theory base and one practice book per subject is a sensible limit. More NEET UG books mean less time for revision and tests. Most lists of NEET UG 2027 books run longer than you can finish. Biology deserves the most reading time, because it carries 90 of the 180 questions. Prices change by seller and edition, so this page lists none.
List the book's chapters next to the syllabus units. Mark any chapter with no matching unit and skip it. Mark any unit with no chapter and find it in another book. The 2026 syllabus is the latest official one. Do the same check for any NEET UG books PDF.
Buy the latest edition of each of your NEET UG books. A NEET UG books PDF of unknown age may miss changes. Study in the language you will answer in. NTA sets the paper in 13 languages and gives a bilingual booklet to Hindi and regional-language candidates. If you study in Hindi medium, check that a title has a Hindi edition before you buy.
Your starting point decides which NEET UG books you need. Read the tab that matches you and skip the rest.
Start with these NEET UG books only: NCERT Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Read Class 11 first and then Class 12. Read Biology line by line, with its diagrams and tables, because Biology carries 360 of 720 marks.
Add one practice book per subject after you finish a unit. Use the easier levels of D.C. Pandey for Physics, O.P. Tandon for Chemistry and Dinesh Objective Biology for Biology.
Skip for now: J.D. Lee, Morrison & Boyd and M.S. Chouhan. These NEET UG 2027 books go deeper than a first read needs. If you study in Hindi medium, choose the Hindi editions of NCERT first.
NCERT Physics, one concept book and one practice book cover most NEET UG Physics preparation. The table lists the main NEET UG books for Physics. The NMC syllabus lists 20 Physics units, so match each book to those units. Among NEET UG 2027 books, Physics rewards practice more than extra reading.
| Book | Best for | Level |
|---|---|---|
| NCERT Physics, Class 11 and 12 | Base theory and standard terms | Foundation |
| H.C. Verma, Concepts of Physics | Concepts and first-principles reasoning | Above NEET UG in places |
| D.C. Pandey, Understanding Physics | Topic-wise practice | Easier levels fit NEET UG |
The level column describes the book. It is not an NTA rating.
Not cover to cover. Among NEET UG books for Physics, H.C. Verma's Concepts of Physics explains ideas in depth and goes beyond NEET UG in places. Use it for a chapter where NCERT feels thin. Skip it if you are short of time and need practice more than theory.
Yes, as practice, if you stay at the easier levels. Of the NEET UG books for Physics, it is the most used practice series. The Understanding Physics series is written for JEE, so its higher levels go past NEET UG. Use it after you finish the NCERT chapter. Do not use it to learn a chapter from zero.
NEET UG Chemistry has three branches, so NEET UG books work best branch by branch. The official syllabus has 20 Chemistry units. They are physical (1 to 8), inorganic (9 to 12) and organic (13 to 20, with biomolecules and practical chemistry).
| Branch | Theory base | Practice add-on |
|---|---|---|
| Physical (units 1 to 8) | NCERT | N. Awasthi for numericals, or O.P. Tandon Physical Chemistry |
| Inorganic (units 9 to 12) | NCERT | O.P. Tandon Inorganic Chemistry. J.D. Lee for one topic at a time |
| Organic (units 13 to 20) | NCERT | O.P. Tandon Organic Chemistry. Morrison & Boyd for mechanisms |
Among NEET UG books, M.S. Chouhan's problem book is only for students who have finished all other practice. The profiles below give the reasons.
Not for most students. It is not among the NEET UG books most students need. J.D. Lee's Concise Inorganic Chemistry is a university-level reference. It covers far more than the four inorganic units in the NEET UG syllabus. Use it only to clear one topic when NCERT leaves a doubt.
Use NCERT as the base in all three branches. Then add one practice source per branch. Physical Chemistry needs numerical practice. Organic Chemistry needs mechanism practice. Inorganic Chemistry needs repeated reading and recall.
Biology carries half of NEET UG: 90 of 180 questions and 360 of 720 marks. The syllabus has 10 Biology units, from Diversity in Living World to Ecology and Environment. So the Biology titles among your NEET UG books get the most reading time.
| Book | Best for | Level |
|---|---|---|
| NCERT Biology, Class 11 and 12 | Base theory, diagrams and tables | Foundation |
| Trueman's Elementary Biology | Extra detail beyond NCERT | Above NCERT in detail |
| Dinesh Objective Biology | Chapter-wise objective questions | Practice |
Only if you want more detail or more objective questions. Among NEET UG books for Biology, NCERT is the base. Trueman's adds detail. Dinesh adds chapter-wise objective practice. Do not buy both for the same purpose. These three are the main NEET UG books for Biology.
Each profile below gives the level, strengths, limits and who should skip the book. These NEET UG 2027 books are common choices, not official picks. NTA requires no NEET UG book. Use the profiles to find the best books for NEET UG 2027 for your own level.

Coaching material is built for the same exam, so a book repeats much of it. Coaching modules are unofficial, like every other title among NEET UG books. Most NEET UG 2027 books overlap with a good module. Use a book only where your module is thin.
Very few NEET UG books. Your module already sequences theory, practice and tests. Keep NCERT for facts, especially in Biology. Add one title for a clear gap, such as a Physics concept or Physical Chemistry numericals.
The most common time-waster
Reading a full reference book chapter by chapter next to an already full coaching schedule. It leaves less time for NTA papers and tests, which matter more for your score.
A book earns its place when it covers something your module does not. For example, a module may give few objective Biology questions. A book of chapter-wise objective questions fills that gap. Use NEET UG books as a targeted fix, not as a second syllabus. The best books for NEET UG 2027 in coaching are the few that fill gaps.
NEET UG books teach the topic, and previous year papers show what NTA actually asked. Use both in a loop for every unit. Hindi medium candidates can use the 2020 "Eng & Hindi" sets. Only papers hosted by NTA count as official PYQs. These are the 2020 papers and the 2026 re-exam paper, listed on the NEET UG question papers page.
Finish the unit in your book first. Then attempt the matching questions from NTA papers. Follow these steps for each unit.
Do not finish all your NEET UG books before you start papers. Late starts hide your weak units until too little time is left. The NEET UG exam pattern page shows the marking you should practise under: +4, -1 and 0.
If you want Hindi medium NEET UG books, check each title for a Hindi edition before you buy. NCERT publishes its textbooks in Hindi as well as English. For other titles, the publisher's listing shows the language. NTA gives a bilingual booklet in the exam to candidates who choose Hindi.
No. NTA hosts no NEET UG books PDF. Its official free material is the syllabus, the Information Bulletin, the 2020 papers and the answer keys. A scanned NEET UG books PDF of a paid title is an unofficial copy and may be old or incomplete.
No. NTA publishes no list of NEET UG books used by toppers. A topper's list is a personal choice, not a guide set for the exam.
No. A change of mode changes how you answer, not which NEET UG books you read. NTA has announced no 2027 mode. Check the NEET UG 2027 overview for the latest position.
