Where can I download the CUET UG exam pattern PDF?

The CUET UG exam pattern PDF is part of the Information Bulletin. The 2026 bulletin has 94 pages. The bulletin carries the CUET UG exam pattern and syllabus summary in its chapter on the scheme of the test. NTA has not released a 2027 file. Is the CUET UG exam pattern the same for science, commerce and arts students?

Yes. The CUET UG exam pattern for science students, commerce students and arts students is the same. The exam has no stream. Only the papers you choose differ. A student for B.Com. (Hons.) at University of Delhi (DU) may choose a language, Mathematics or Accountancy, and more papers. A science student may choose Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each of these papers still has 50 questions in 60 minutes.

CUET UG Exam Pattern: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there any choice of questions inside a CUET UG paper?

No, all 50 questions are compulsory. The bulletin says all questions are compulsory. In May 2025, NTA gave one exception for the Accountancy paper. It is explained under the CUET UG exam pattern 2025 changes.

2. Is the CUET UG exam pattern adaptive?

No. The exam is not adaptive. The next question does not depend on your last answer, and you can move freely between questions.

3. Do I need to take all five papers?

No. You can take fewer than five. In 2026, a candidate took 4.31 papers on average. Take the papers that your target course needs. The CUET UG exam pattern total marks then depend on how many papers you take.

CUET UG 2027 Exam Pattern: Section-Wise Details of Language, Domain and GAT Papers

The CUET UG exam pattern has no sections inside a paper. Each of the 37 papers is one 60-minute test of 50 questions. The computer screen shows a section bar. But there is no separate timer for any part. The Mathematics and Computer Science syllabi have sections. Yet NTA publishes no question count for each section.

Papers fall into three types. Each type has a different aim. The question format and marking are the same for all three.

These test reading and word skills, using multiple choice questions. Each has Reading Comprehension. Ten languages use three passage types: factual, narrative and literary. Kannada, Malayalam and Punjabi use two. A passage has at most 300 words. They also have Verbal Ability: rearranging the parts of a sentence, matching, choosing the correct word, and synonyms and antonyms.

NTA fixes the date and shift of each paper. The admit card shows them. NTA says it will not change a date or shift on request. In 2026, the exam ran over 35 shifts on 19 days. Each paper in a shift is separate from the others.

In which language will the CUET UG paper be?

The CUET UG paper is shown in English and in the language you choose, side by side. You can choose from 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. If the two versions differ, the English version prevails. Sanskrit (paper 325) is not translated into any other language.

How does the CUET UG exam screen work?

The exam screen is easy to use once you have seen it. Learn these steps before the day.

  1. A question palette on the screen lets you move to any question.
  2. Click "Save & Next" to save your answer and move on.
  3. Click "Mark for Review & Next" if you want to come back to a question.
  4. You can change or clear an answer at any time before the time ends.
  5. You can switch the language of the paper from the profile icon during the exam.
  6. The timer runs on the server. The paper ends by itself when it reaches zero.

If a computer or mouse fails, NTA gives you another system. It adds the lost time on the server.

CUET UG 2027 Questions and Marks Distribution

Every CUET UG paper has 50 questions of 5 marks each. So the most you can score in one paper is 250 raw marks. The distribution is the same for language, domain and General Aptitude Test papers. The CUET UG exam pattern 2025 used the same 250 marks per paper. All are multiple choice questions with negative marking. For CUET UG exam pattern total marks, add up the marks of the papers you take.

Type of paperNumber of papersQuestions and raw marks
Language1350 questions, 250 marks
Domain subject2350 questions, 250 marks
General Aptitude Test150 questions, 250 marks

The 250 marks comes from simple maths: 50 questions x 5 marks = 250 marks. A candidate who takes five papers sits for 5 x 50 = 250 questions. The marks add to 5 x 250 = 1,250. The paper time adds to 5 x 60 = 300 minutes, which is 5 hours. The admit card shows the date and shift of each paper.

What is the total marks in CUET UG?

The CUET UG exam pattern total marks is not one fixed number, because you choose your own papers. The CUET UG exam pattern total marks did not change from 2025 to 2026. Each paper is out of 250 raw marks. Five papers give a highest raw total of 1,250. In 2026, the top total of NTA Scores over five subjects was 1232.19. NTA gives a score for each subject. It does not give one overall total or rank.

The raw marks are not your final score. NTA converts them into the NTA Score, which also goes up to 250 for each subject. This step is called normalisation. The CUET UG results page explains how it works.

CUET UG 2027 Sectional Time Limit

The CUET UG exam has no sectional time limit. You get one 60-minute block for each paper and you can move between questions freely. So you decide how to divide your time. The CUET UG exam pattern for science students gives the same 72 seconds for each question. Arts and commerce papers give the same.

Start with the maths. Sixty minutes for 50 questions is 60 ÷ 50 = 1.2 minutes for each question. That is about 72 seconds. Some questions will take 20 seconds and some will take two minutes, so 72 seconds is only an average.

How much time do I get for each question?

You get about 72 seconds for each question on average. Here is a plan you can try in your practice tests. It is a suggestion and not an NTA rule.

  1. First round, 35 minutes. Answer every question you are sure of, and skip the others.
  2. Second round, 15 minutes. Go back to the skipped questions and solve those you can.
  3. Last round, 10 minutes. Check the marked questions and any answer you doubt. Because of negative marking, change an answer only when you are sure. Parents can time a home test with the same plan.

The three parts add up to 35 + 15 + 10 = 60 minutes. For a language paper, give the first round a little more time, because each passage needs a calm first read.

Candidates with a benchmark disability (PwBD) who are eligible for a scribe get extra time. NTA gives 20 minutes for every hour. So a 60-minute paper becomes 80 minutes for them.

CUET UG 2027 Marking Scheme

The CUET UG marking scheme gives +5 marks for a correct answer. It gives -1 mark for a wrong answer and 0 for a question you leave. This means the exam has negative marking. Think of each right answer as five coins and each wrong answer as one coin taken back.

Your answerMarksExample for 10 questions
Correct+56 correct give +30
Wrong-13 wrong give -3
Not attempted01 left gives 0

In this example, the total is 30 - 3 + 0 = 27 marks. Here are two made-up examples for a full paper of 50 questions.

  • Student A answers 40 right, 6 wrong and leaves 4. The marks are 40 x 5 = 200, minus 6 x 1 = 6. The score is 194.
  • Student B answers 30 right, 10 wrong and leaves 10. The marks are 30 x 5 = 150, minus 10. The score is 140.

Some questions follow special rules, which NTA states in the bulletin.

  • If more than one option is correct, you get +5 if you marked any one of the correct options.
  • If a question is wrong, dropped or has no correct option, all candidates who appeared get +5. This is so whether they attempted it or not.
  • An answer that is "Answered and Marked for Review" is checked. A question that is only "Marked for Review" without an answer is not checked.

Does CUET UG have negative marking?

Yes, CUET UG has negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. One right answer gives 5 marks, so it cancels five wrong answers. Leaving a question costs nothing. The rule is the same in every paper. So answer a question when you can remove some options, and skip it when you have no idea.

How can I work out my score from the answer key?

You can work out a raw score from the final answer key. Use this formula: 5 x right answers, minus 1 x wrong answers, plus 5 for each dropped or wrong question. Your raw score is not your NTA Score, because NTA normalises it. The CUET UG answer key page has the steps and the challenge fee.

CUET UG Marking Scheme: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the NTA Score the same as my raw score?

No. The raw score is your marks out of 250. NTA converts it into the NTA Score by normalisation, using the equi-percentile method.

2. Do I lose marks for a question I leave?

No. An unattempted question gives 0 marks. Only a wrong answer costs 1 mark.

3. Does the marking scheme change by subject?

No. The same marking scheme applies to language, domain and GAT papers. The CUET UG exam pattern for science students uses the same marking as the pattern for commerce and arts students.

CUET UG 2027 Section-Wise Syllabus and Important Topics

The CUET UG exam pattern and syllabus go together, and the CUET UG syllabus 2027 is not announced yet. So the topics below come from the 2026 syllabus PDFs. NTA publishes no unit-wise weightage. So no topic is officially marked as more important than another. The sizes of the units are a guide to your study time, not to marks.

Language and General Aptitude Test topics are in the section above. The domain subjects are listed here by group. The grouping is ours, to help you find your subject.

Physics has 9 units. The first four are Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, and Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents. The last five are Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, and Electronic Devices. Chemistry has 10 units, from Solutions to Biomolecules. Biology has 5 units: Reproduction; Genetics and Evolution; Biology and Human Welfare; Biotechnology and its Applications; Ecology and Environment. Mathematics has parts for Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.

Other domain papers are Agriculture, Anthropology, Environmental Science, Fine Arts, Home Science and Knowledge Tradition. The rest are Mass Media, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Sanskrit, and Computer Science or Informatics Practices. The CUET UG syllabus page covers each one. The official syllabus page of NTA has all 37 PDFs.

CUET UG Exam Pattern Changes Over the Years

The CUET UG exam pattern did not change from the 2025 cycle to the 2026 cycle. Both bulletins state the same pattern, as the table shows. The CUET UG exam pattern for science students did not change either.

FeatureCUET UG exam pattern 2025CUET UG exam pattern 2026
Test papers3737
Questions in a paper5050
Duration60 minutes60 minutes
Marking scheme+5 and -1+5 and -1
Papers you can takeUp to 5Up to 5

So the CUET UG exam pattern 2025 and the CUET UG exam pattern 2026 match on every line above. The CUET UG exam pattern PDF of 2025 sits in the 2025 bulletin. The 2022 to 2024 patterns were not checked for this page, so it makes no claim about them.

One change did happen inside the CUET UG exam pattern 2025. On 19 May 2025, NTA changed the Accountancy paper. From 22 May 2025, candidates got a choice between questions on Unit V and questions on its optional alternative. Candidates who had appeared earlier could retake the paper. The 2026 Accountancy syllabus still lists two Unit V blocks. The CUET UG exam pattern and syllabus both stayed close in 2026. Biology kept its five blocks but renumbered them VI to X.

Will the CUET UG exam pattern change in 2027?

NTA has not said whether the CUET UG 2027 exam pattern will differ from 2026. The last two bulletins match, but a match does not promise the same for 2027. Wait for the 2027 bulletin. It will state the number of papers, the subject limit and the marking.

The CUET UG exam pattern 2026 stayed the same as in 2025. The exam itself grew in size between the two years. The table compares the two cycles, using NTA's own figures.

Measure20252026
Candidates registered13,54,69915,68,867
Candidates who appeared10,71,73511,64,098
Subject tests registered58,18,60867,56,327
Question papers322332
Participating universities241244

Here is what the numbers show. Registrations rose by 15,68,867 - 13,54,699 = 2,14,168. That is about 15.8% more candidates, and NTA says "more than 15%". Subject tests rose by about 16.1%. But a smaller share of candidates appeared in 2026. In 2025, 10,71,735 of 13,54,699 appeared, which is about 79.1%. In 2026, 11,64,098 of 15,68,867 appeared, which is about 74.2%. These percentages are our own arithmetic on NTA's figures.

The 2026 exam also had a large setup. NTA set 332 question papers with 18,160 unique questions, and 996 papers across languages. The exam ran over 35 shifts on 19 days, at 868 centres in India and in 15 cities outside India. The 10 May 2026 briefing said 14 cities and the 23 June 2026 result release said 13. The bulletin figure of 15 is the one to trust.

The 2026 cycle also saw two disruptions. NTA moved the 28 May papers because of a holiday change. On 30 May, a technical problem hit Shift I, where 73,106 candidates were present. Of them, 69,341 finished, and the other 3,765 got a one-time re-exam on 6 and 7 June. That is about 5% of the candidates in that shift.

Which subjects did most students choose in 2026?

English was the most chosen paper in 2026, with 12,64,153 registrations. Chemistry had 9,51,707, the General Aptitude Test had 9,15,039 and Physics had 9,14,649. Mathematics had 5,79,990 and the Biology group had 5,56,445. Choose by your target course and not by the crowd. Check the CUET UG exam pattern and syllabus of each paper before you pick it. The CUET UG 2027 exam pattern is still awaited. The CUET UG colleges page shows which universities take the score.
