The link to the IIT JAM exam results will sit on the JAM 2027 homepage and in your JOAPS login. Use only jam.iitkgp.ac.in. In the IIT JAM result 2026, the result and the scorecard were separate steps. The result went live on 19 Mar 2026. The scorecard download opened on 26 Mar 2026.

What is the IIT JAM result validity?

The documents we read state no fixed IIT JAM result validity, such as one year. A JAM 2027 score is meant for admission in the academic year 2027-28, as per the brochure. The 2025 brochure gave a scorecard download window that ran to 31 Jul 2025, and it was tentative. CCMN 2026 asked for a valid JAM score of the year 2026. Read this as: the IIT JAM exam results of 2027 serve the 2027-28 admission cycle. Confirm the IIT JAM result validity with each institute before you plan to use the score later.

Details Mentioned on IIT JAM Exam Results Scorecard 2027

The JAM website does not list the scorecard fields in the pages we read. The IIT JAM exam results give your raw marks, your AIR and your qualifying status. Check these items against your application.

If any item is wrong, write to jam@iitkgp.ac.in. Verify each item as soon as the IIT JAM exam results go live. Keep your admit card, because admitting institutes may ask for it during admission.

Can marks be negative in the IIT JAM exam results?

Yes, the IIT JAM exam results can show negative raw marks. Section A has negative marking, and Sections B and C do not. In JAM 2026, the lowest raw marks ran from -6.67 to -14 across the seven papers. This is from the official statistical report. Un-attempted questions give zero.

IIT JAM Score, AIR and Tie-Break Rules (No Percentile)

The IIT JAM exam results rank candidates by raw marks, separately in each paper. Admission is offered on AIR, the reservation policy and seat availability. There is no percentile and no normalisation.

Take this check as an example. A General candidate in Mathematics scores 14 marks. The 2026 General qualifying marks for MA were 12.65, so 14 marks would have qualified in 2026. The 2027 qualifying marks will be set after the exam. The IIT JAM exam results of one year do not predict the next year's line.

The same marks mean different things in different papers. The table shows the highest and lowest raw marks in each paper in JAM 2026. These are the IIT JAM exam results at the two ends of each paper.

PaperHighest raw marks, 2026Lowest raw marks, 2026
Biotechnology (BT)85.67-11.33
Chemistry (CY)79.67-12.67
Economics (EN)87.33-6.67
Geology (GG)73-8
Mathematics (MA)82.67-10.67
Mathematical Statistics (MS)76.33-12.33
Physics (PH)68.67-14

What is the tie-break rule in the IIT JAM result?

The 2027 tie-break rule is not announced yet. The JAM 2025 brochure gave this order:

  • Negative marks, where lower is better.
  • NAT marks.
  • MSQ marks.
  • Marks in 2-mark questions.
  • Marks in 2-mark NAT questions.
  • Date of birth, where the older candidate gets the better rank.

No 2026 or 2027 statement was found. Treat the 2025 order as history.

How does CCMN use the IIT JAM rank?

CCMN is a separate counselling for NITs and other CFTIs. It does not change your IIT JAM exam results. It builds its own merit on a Common Percentile, calculated from the JAM rank of the same year. Its 2026 tie-break was the higher JAM score, then date of birth (elder first), then a random number. CCMN 2027 is not announced. See IIT JAM 2027 counselling for both routes.

The IIT JAM exam results of 2026 show 15,814 qualified candidates out of 48,170 who appeared. That is 32.8% of those who appeared. In JAM 2026, 58,622 candidates had registered, so about 82% of them appeared. The IIT JAM result 2026 is the latest full set of figures.

What After IIT JAM Result 2027? Next Steps

After the IIT JAM exam results, you apply for admission separately. The result alone does not give a seat. Run this checklist in order. Keep the scorecard from the IIT JAM exam results with you at each step.

  1. Download the scorecard if you qualified, and keep the admit card.
  2. Check the minimum educational qualification (MEQ) of each programme. The admitting institute verifies it.
  3. Wait for the Admission Brochure 2027, due in the second week of March 2027.
  4. Apply on JOAPS for the 23 admitting IITs, in order of preference. The admission application fee is ₹750.
  5. Apply separately to result-sharing institutes: NITs and other CFTIs through CCMN, and IISc and others on their own portals.
  6. Keep OBC-NCL and EWS certificates issued on or after 1 Apr 2026.

The JOAPS route has a maximum of four rounds, plus an additional round if seats remain. Each round gives three choices: Accept and Freeze, Accept and Upgrade, or Reject and Quit. No 2027 admission date is announced. Use the JAM 2026 cycle as a guide only.

Which IITs can I get after the IIT JAM exam results?

The IIT JAM exam results decide which programmes you can try. You can apply to 23 admitting IITs through JOAPS, where the programme matches your paper and degree. Past ranks help you judge. For example, the last General rank in IIT Madras Physics in Round 6 of JAM 2026 was 227. See the IIT JAM 2027 colleges page for seats and ranks, and IIT JAM exam fees for admission-stage costs.

IIT JAM Result: Next Steps FAQs

1. Does a high AIR in one paper help in another paper?

No. Each paper has its own AIR in the IIT JAM exam results, and programmes accept specific papers.

2. Do I need to wait for the result to start document work?

No. You can collect your degree proofs and category certificates earlier. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be issued on or after 1 Apr 2026.

What if my degree does not match the programme?

The programme's minimum educational qualification (MEQ) decides this, not the IIT JAM exam results. Each admitting institute lists its MEQ in the brochure. Your UG programme must also be complete before the admission date of the admitting institute.

Two IIT Madras examples show how strict the rule is. For M.Sc. Physics, IIT Madras asks for Physics for 2 years (4 semesters) and Mathematics for 1 year (2 semesters). For M.Sc. Chemistry, it asks for Chemistry for 3 years (6 semesters) and Mathematics for 1 year (2 semesters). Check your own marksheets against these rules for every programme you list.

It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
