JEE Main Exam Fees 2027: Fee Table, Counselling Fees and Total Cost

Question Paper

₹1,000 is the JEE Main exam fee 2027 for one paper in India, for a General male candidate. NTA states it in the of 24 October 2026. A General female candidate pays ₹800. A Gen-EWS or OBC-NCL male candidate pays ₹900, and an SC, ST or PwD candidate pays ₹500. The India fees are the same as the 2026 table, which was identical to the 2025 table. One fee has changed: a Third Gender candidate at a centre outside India now pays ₹2,500 for one paper.

The JEE Main exam fees paid to NTA are only the first payment. A General male candidate who writes both sessions pays ₹2,000 to NTA, before bank charges. After a seat is allotted, JoSAA asks for a Seat Acceptance Fee of ₹30,000 or ₹15,000. The institute then collects its own fee, and tuition alone is ₹62,500 a semester at every NIT we checked.

JEE Main Exam Fees 2027

The JEE Main exam fees depend on four things: category, gender, number of papers and location of the centre. NTA charges the JEE Main exam fees for each session, and it states them in the 2027 Information Bulletin. NTA calls the amount the application fee, and many candidates search for it as the JEE Main registration fee.

CategoryMaleFemale
General₹1,000₹800
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL₹900₹800
SC / ST / PwD / PwBD₹500₹500

The table is for one paper at a centre in India, per session. A Third Gender candidate pays ₹500 for one paper in India. Fees for two papers and for centres outside India are in the sections below.

How much are the JEE Main exam fees?

The JEE Main exam fees for one paper in India are ₹500 to ₹1,000 per session. The exact amount depends on category and gender. The bulletin does not include processing charges and GST in the JEE Main exam fees. The bank or payment gateway adds both. The charge depends on the bank and payment mode.

Has NTA announced the JEE Main exam fees 2027?

Yes. NTA published the fee table in the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin on 24 October 2026. The Session 1 form is open from 24 October to 22 November 2026. If you apply on 23 to 26 November 2026, you pay a late fee of ₹500 extra, the same for every category.

What does JEE Main cost a family from form to seat?

The table lists each payment in the order a family meets it. The NTA amounts are the 2027 fees. The JoSAA and CSAB amounts are 2026 rules, shown for planning. The JEE Main exam fees paid to NTA are the smallest part of the total.

StepAmountWhen it is due
NTA fee, Session 1₹500 to ₹1,000 for one paperWith the form, by 22 November 2026
NTA late fee, Session 1₹500 extraOnly if you apply on 23 to 26 November 2026
NTA fee, Session 2₹500 to ₹1,000, optionalWith the Session 2 form, by 3 February 2027

CSAB Special Rounds fee₹19,000 or ₹40,000Only if you join the Special Rounds
Institute feeSee the institute table belowOn reporting at the institute

Add the first two rows and the seat fee for a simple budget. Take a General male candidate with both sessions and a seat fee of ₹30,000. Our total is ₹2,000 + ₹30,000 = ₹32,000, before bank charges.

Has the JEE Main Exam Fee Changed from 2026 to 2027?

NTA kept the India fees the same in 2027. We compared the fee tables of the 2026 and 2027 bulletins cell by cell. The 2025 and 2026 tables were also identical. One cell changed: a Third Gender candidate at a centre outside India pays ₹2,500 for one paper in 2027. The 2026 table showed ₹3,000.

Item20262027
One paper, General male, India₹1,000₹1,000
One paper, Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL male, India₹900₹900
One paper, SC/ST/PwD/PwBD, India₹500₹500
Two or more papers, General male, India₹2,000₹2,000
One paper, Third Gender, outside India₹3,000₹2,500
Late fee, all categoriesNot in the fee table₹500

The JoSAA and CSAB fees for 2027 are not published yet. The 2026 JoSAA and CSAB fees did not change from 2025.

Will the JEE Main exam fees increase in 2027?

No. NTA has kept the India fee for every category the same as 2026. NTA's 2027 bulletin is the official source for the fee.

When did NTA announce the JEE Main exam fees 2027?

NTA announced the JEE Main exam fees 2027 on 24 October 2026, in its Information Bulletin and public notice. For the 2026 cycle, NTA issued the Session 1 notice and bulletin on 31 October and 2 November 2025. Track every update on the JEE Main 2027 exam date page.

JEE Main Fee for General, Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL Candidates

A General male candidate pays ₹1,000 in JEE Main exam fees for one paper in India. A General female candidate pays ₹800. Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates pay ₹900 (male) or ₹800 (female). These are the JEE Main exam fees 2027 for one paper, per session.

Category and genderIndiaOutside India
General, male₹1,000₹5,000
General, female₹800₹4,000
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL, male₹900₹4,500
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL, female₹800₹4,000

If you choose two or more papers, the JEE Main exam fees rise. The papers are Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.), Paper 2A (B.Arch.) and Paper 2B (B.Planning). One fee covers every combination of two or more papers.

Category and genderIndiaOutside India
General / Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL, male₹2,000₹10,000
General / Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL, female₹1,600₹8,000

In the two-or-more-papers block, the JEE Main exam fees for general, Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates are one amount. In the one-paper block, only male Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates pay less than General.

What are the JEE Main exam fees for the General category?

The JEE Main exam fees for general category candidates are ₹1,000 for males and ₹800 for females. Both amounts are for one paper in India. The JEE Main exam fees for general category candidates are ₹5,000 and ₹4,000 at centres outside India.

Are the JEE Main exam fees for OBC lower than General?

Only for male candidates. The JEE Main exam fees for OBC-NCL candidates are ₹900 for a male candidate, which is ₹100 less than General. A female OBC-NCL candidate pays ₹800, the same as a General female candidate. The JEE Main exam fees for OBC-NCL girls therefore equal the General rate. You need a valid OBC-NCL certificate, which is checked at counselling.

What are the JEE Main fees for girls?

A girl pays ₹800 in the General and Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL categories, and ₹500 in the SC/ST/PwD/PwBD category. The JEE Main fees for girls in the General category are ₹200 lower than for boys. The JEE Main fees for girls in the Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL category are ₹100 lower. The JEE Main exam fees for SC, ST and PwD candidates are the same for both.

How much does a family pay if the candidate writes both sessions?

The JEE Main exam fees are paid for each session, so two sessions mean two payments. A candidate can apply for Session 1 only, and the JEE Main registration fee is then paid once. NTA opens Session 2 separately, using the same application number. Here are our totals for one paper in India, before bank charges.

CandidateOne sessionBoth sessions (ours)
General, male₹1,000₹2,000
General, female₹800₹1,600
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL, male₹900₹1,800
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL, female₹800₹1,600

NTA does not allow more than one application form. It says multiple forms from one candidate lead to cancellation of the result. Pay each session fee only once, and see the JEE Main registration page for the steps.

JEE Main Fee for SC, ST, PwD/PwBD and Third Gender Candidates

The JEE Main fees for SC, ST, PwD and PwBD candidates are ₹500 for one paper in India. Male and female candidates pay the same. These are the lowest category-wise JEE Main exam fees. A Third Gender candidate also pays ₹500 for one paper in India, but ₹2,500 for one paper outside India. These are the JEE Main exam fees 2027 for these categories.

CandidateOne paper (India / outside)Two or more papers (India / outside)
SC / ST / PwD / PwBD, male or female₹500 / ₹2,500₹1,000 / ₹5,000
Third Gender₹500 / ₹2,500₹1,000 / ₹5,000

Our total of the JEE Main exam fees for both sessions is ₹1,000 for one paper in India. Add the JoSAA Seat Acceptance Fee of ₹15,000 if you hold a seat under an SC, ST or PwD tag. The family then needs ₹16,000 before any institute fee.

Is JEE Main free for SC and ST students?

No. The JEE Main fees for SC and ST candidates are ₹500 per session for one paper in India. NTA states no free category and no other concession for the JEE Main application fee. The lower category-wise rate in the table is the only relief. The JEE Main fees for SC candidates are the same as for ST candidates.

Which documents does a PwD candidate need with the fee?

The fee needs no document. The application does. A PwD or PwBD candidate gives UDID card details, which NTA verifies on the UDID portal. Otherwise the candidate uploads a disability certificate PDF. NTA also asks every candidate for a Class 10 certificate. Category certificates are checked at counselling.

JoSAA and CSAB Counselling Fees After JEE Main

JoSAA asks for a Seat Acceptance Fee of ₹30,000 from most candidates and ₹15,000 from SC, ST and PwD-tagged candidates. These come after the JEE Main exam fees paid to NTA. They are the 2026 amounts, and they equal the 2025 amounts. JoSAA has published no 2027 fee, since the 2027 Business Rules are not out.

JoSAA allots seats in IITs and IISc on the JEE Advanced rank. It allots seats in NITs, IIEST, IIITs and other GFTIs on the JEE Main rank. The JEE Main colleges page lists these institutes. The JEE Advanced fee is separate and is on the JEE Advanced fees page.

Fee (JoSAA 2026)All other candidatesSC / ST / PwD tags
Seat Acceptance Fee₹30,000₹15,000
Partial Admission Fee (NIT+ only)₹45,000₹20,000
Deduction on a valid withdrawal₹7,000₹7,000
Deduction on cancellation for ineligibility₹5,000₹5,000

The "SC / ST / PwD tags" column covers SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD and ST-PwD. A Gen-EWS or OBC-NCL candidate without a PwD tag pays the higher amount.

How much is the JoSAA Seat Acceptance Fee and when is it paid?

The Seat Acceptance Fee is ₹30,000, or ₹15,000 for the tagged categories, and you pay it once. You pay it in the round where you are first allotted a seat. It includes ₹5,000 of JoSAA processing charges. JoSAA adjusts the rest against the admission fee.

JoSAA also allows an optional pre-payment. In 2026 it ran from 2 June, the first day of choice filling. It closed at 5:00 P.M. on 11 June, the choice-locking time. JoSAA refunds the pre-payment in full if no seat is allotted.

What do I get back if I withdraw from JoSAA?

JoSAA says the Seat Acceptance Fee is not refundable once paid. Its rules still return it after a valid withdrawal, less ₹7,000. After a cancellation for ineligibility or an unresolved document problem, it returns the fee less ₹5,000. The refund amounts below are our arithmetic.

CaseGeneral (₹30,000 paid)SC/ST/PwD tags (₹15,000 paid)
Valid withdrawal₹23,000 back₹8,000 back
Cancelled for ineligibility₹25,000 back₹10,000 back

An IIT or IISc seat can be withdrawn from round 2 up to the second-last round. A seat in the NIT system can be withdrawn up to the final round.

What is the Partial Admission Fee?

The Partial Admission Fee is ₹45,000, or ₹20,000 for the tagged categories, and only NIT-system seats need it. You pay it at the end of round 5. In 2026 that window was 22-24 July. It is adjusted against the institute admission fee, and it is not refundable once paid. If you do not pay it, the seat is forfeited and goes to CSAB Special Rounds. JoSAA then refunds the Seat Acceptance Fee after deducting ₹7,000.

What are the CSAB Special Rounds fees?

CSAB Special Rounds fill the NIT-system seats that stay vacant after JoSAA. The Special Round Enrolment Fee is ₹40,000 for General, Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates. It is ₹19,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. It includes a non-refundable processing fee of ₹5,000.

After a seat is allotted, CSAB collects Institute Admission Fee-II. It is ₹35,000 for General, Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates and ₹16,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. It is due whether you choose Freeze, Slide or Float. A candidate who paid the Partial Admission Fee in JoSAA does not pay it.

A candidate who already paid the JoSAA Seat Acceptance Fee pays only the difference at CSAB registration. Suppose JoSAA changed your category to General at document verification, and you have not paid the Partial Admission Fee. You then pay an extra ₹15,000. CSAB amounts are the same as in 2025. Registration for the 2026 Special Rounds ran from 28 July to 3 August.

Counselling Fees: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there a JoSAA registration fee?

The 2026 JoSAA Business Rules state no separate registration fee. The JEE Main exam fees paid to NTA do not cover JoSAA. Fees are paid only after a seat is allotted, apart from the optional pre-payment.

2. How can I pay the Seat Acceptance Fee?

Online or by cash challan. JoSAA accepts debit card, UPI, credit card and net banking. It also accepts an SBI e-challan, which is cash paid at an SBI branch. A CSC Grahak Seva Kendra can pay through SBIePay.

3. Do I pay the Seat Acceptance Fee again if I float or slide?

No. The Seat Acceptance Fee is paid once, in the round of first allotment. It is not paid again for float or slide.

4. Does JoSAA have a 2027 fee yet?

No. JoSAA has not published the 2027 Business Rules. The 2025 and 2026 amounts were identical, but a repeat in 2027 is only our inference.

NIT, IIIT and Other Institute Programme Fees (2026-27 Batch)

The JEE Main exam fees are small next to the institute fee. Tuition is ₹62,500 a semester, or ₹5,00,000 over eight semesters, at every NIT we checked. IIIT Allahabad charges ₹99,000 a semester, and IIIT Delhi charges ₹4,50,000 in the first year. Each figure below comes from the institute's own 2026-27 fee circular, and every circular says the fee may be revised.

The 2027-28 intake fees of the institutes are not published yet. Treat the figures as the 2026-27 batch. A rise for the next batch is possible. NIT Karnataka's circular says its Part B other fee rises 5% a year. The totals marked as ours are our own sums of the printed semester figures.

What is the first payment at each NIT?

The table shows the first payment and a multi-year view for a student who pays full tuition. Hostel and mess are inside some totals and outside others, so read the note in each row.

Institute (2026-27 batch)First paymentMulti-year view
Semester I ₹1,25,550₹6,63,750 over four years (ours)
₹1,05,000 at admissionYear 2 onward: other fee ₹12,500 a year
Semester I ₹1,00,850 (day scholar)Year 1: ₹1,68,990 day scholar, ₹1,87,510 hosteller (ours)
Semester 1 ₹1,36,500 with hostel₹9,20,000 over eight semesters (ours)
Monsoon 2026-27 ₹1,42,600₹6,63,000 over four years (ours)
Semester I ₹1,07,500₹6,77,000 grand total, as printed
First odd semester ₹99,337.06 (ours)Even semester ₹81,950 (ours)

Three rows need a note.

  • NIT Tiruchirappalli: The eight printed semester totals are ₹1,25,550, ₹62,500, ₹92,950, ₹62,500, ₹95,950, ₹62,500, ₹99,300 and ₹62,500. One-time fees are ₹35,300.
  • SVNIT Surat: The printed total includes seat rent of ₹24,000 and a refundable deposit of ₹5,000.
  • MNIT Jaipur: The ₹99,337.06 is ₹62,500 tuition plus the ₹36,837.06 institute fee.

Hostel and mess are inside the NIT Rourkela total and outside the NIT Calicut total. NIT Warangal's circular says all admitted candidates must stay in the hostels. NIT Karnataka's circular is marked provisional.

We did not find a current fee circular for MNNIT Allahabad or IIITDM Jabalpur. The MNNIT file we found dates from 2014, so we print no figure for either.

How much do IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Delhi charge?

IIIT Allahabad charges ₹99,000 tuition a semester for the B.Tech (IT, EC and BI) batch of 2026. With a double-sharing hostel, the eight semester totals add to ₹10,62,760 (ours). With a single-occupancy hostel they add to ₹11,89,020 (ours). Mess charges are extra. The circular is from , and it is subject to yearly revision.

IIIT Delhi lists tuition of ₹4,50,000 for year 1 and ₹4,75,000 for year 2. Year 3 is ₹5,00,000 and year 4 is ₹5,30,000. That adds to ₹19,55,000 (ours). The first year payable is ₹4,60,000, which is tuition plus a refundable security deposit of ₹10,000. It is paid in two instalments, ₹2,35,000 before semester 1 and ₹2,25,000 before semester 2. The IIIT Delhi fee page lists hostel separately.

IIIT Delhi is not on the JoSAA 2026 institute list. Its own cut-off page says "Cut-offs as per JEE Mains ranks". We could not confirm its counselling route from an official page, so check it with the institute.

How do family income and category change the NIT tuition bill?

The government waiver cuts tuition, not the other fees. The JEE Main exam fees paid to NTA have no such waiver. The NIT circulars follow one pattern. Family income below ₹1 lakh means full tuition remission. Income of ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh means a remission of two-thirds, which leaves ₹20,833 a semester. SC, ST and PwD students are exempt from tuition. NIT Calicut shows the effect over four years.

Student at NIT CalicutFour-year total (ours)What changes
Full tuition, income above ₹5 lakh₹6,63,000Nothing is waived
Family income ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh₹3,29,668Two-thirds tuition waived
Income below ₹1 lakh, or SC/ST/PwD₹1,63,000Full tuition waived

The ₹1,63,000 is what remains after the ₹5,00,000 tuition is taken out of ₹6,63,000. NIT Tiruchirappalli asks for an income certificate for the preceding financial year, 2025-2026. Keep the certificate ready before reporting. Compare these costs with the ranks in the JEE Main cutoff page.

How to Pay the JEE Main Application Fee: Payment Modes and Refund Rules

NTA accepts the JEE Main application fee only online, through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI. There is no offline payment of the JEE Main exam fees. NTA allows payment through the payment gateway of Union Bank of India, State Bank of India or Canara Bank.

The 2027 bulletin also says processing charges and GST are extra. The candidate pays them, and the bank or gateway charges them. The charge depends on the bank and payment mode, and Appendix I of the bulletin lists the rates. UPI carries no processing charge in that list. Your actual debit can therefore be higher than the table. Keep a small margin when you plan the JEE Main exam fees.

The 2027 bulletin pays through Union Bank of India, State Bank of India and Canara Bank. Earlier bulletins listed other banks.

Is the JEE Main application fee refundable?

No. The 2027 bulletin says NTA does not entertain any request for refund once a candidate has paid the fee successfully. This applies to a successfully completed single payment. NTA handles failed and duplicate payments separately.

  • Duplicate or multiple payments: NTA refunds a duplicate payment through the same payment mode, after fee reconciliation.
  • Failed transactions: If the Confirmation Page is not generated, first check the payment status with your bank. If the bank says the payment failed, pay again before the deadline. If the bank says it succeeded, contact the NTA helpline so that NTA can regenerate the page.

The answer-key challenge fee of ₹200 a question is non-refundable.

Payment Modes and Refunds: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I pay the JEE Main exam fees in cash or by demand draft?

No. The bulletin says the fee can be submitted only online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI.

2. Is GST included in the JEE Main exam fees table?

No. The JEE Main exam fees table excludes processing charges and GST. The candidate pays both, as applicable, and NTA does not print the amount.

3. Which banks run the JEE Main payment gateway?

Union Bank of India, State Bank of India and Canara Bank. Appendix I of the 2027 bulletin lists a helpline for each.

4. Does NTA give a fee waiver for JEE Main?

No waiver scheme is stated. The 2027 bulletin only sets lower rates by category and gender. SC, ST, PwD, PwBD and Third Gender candidates pay the lowest JEE Main exam fees.

JEE Main Fee Payment Steps and Failed Payments

You pay the JEE Main exam fees in Step 3 of a three-step process. The form is incomplete until you pay. NTA names the steps Registration Form, Application Form and Fee Payment. The JEE Main 2027 registration page explains the first two in detail. The JEE Main registration fee is paid only in Step 3. It is the same amount as the application fee.

  1. Registration Form: Get an application number and create a password.
  2. Application Form: Enter your details, choose the paper, medium and cities, and upload the documents.
  3. Fee Payment: Pay online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI.
  4. Confirmation Page: Download and print it after the payment succeeds.

NTA creates the Confirmation Page only after a successful payment. Save the page, because it is your proof of payment for the JEE Main exam fees. Plan the payment early, since the form and fee deadlines differ.

What is the last time to pay the JEE Main exam fees?

The last time to pay the Session 1 fee is 11:50 P.M. on 22 November 2026. For Session 2, it is 11:50 P.M. on 3 February 2027. If you miss it, you can apply with a late fee of ₹500 on 23 to 26 November 2026 for Session 1, or 4 to 7 February 2027 for Session 2. The last time to pay with the late fee is also 11:50 P.M. on the last late date. For Session 1 of 2026, the last date was 27 November 2025.

What if the JEE Main exam fees payment fails?

Pay the JEE Main exam fees again if the Confirmation Page is not generated. NTA treats the failed transaction as cancelled. The candidate approaches the concerned bank for that refund. NTA says it will reconcile any multiple payments after the final result and refund them. Call the NTA helpline on 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, or write to jeemain@nta.ac.in, if you need help.

Can I pay the JEE Main exam fees after the last date?

Yes, for a short time. NTA allows late submission with a late fee of ₹500 over your category fee. For Session 1, the late window is 23 to 26 November 2026. For Session 2, it is 4 to 7 February 2027. NTA's notice gives no window after that.

Other Costs: Corrections, Answer-Key Challenge, Hostel and Deposits

Beyond the JEE Main exam fees, a family should plan for four smaller items. These are a correction fee, answer-key challenges, hostel and mess, and refundable deposits. NTA gives a rupee amount only for the answer-key challenge.

Is there a correction fee for the JEE Main form?

NTA allows a one-time correction. For JEE Main 2027, the windows are 27 to 29 November 2026 for Session 1 and 8 to 10 February 2027 for Session 2. The 2027 bulletin states no rupee amount for a correction fee. NTA publishes the list of fields you can correct when each window goes live, so check that list before you pay anything for a correction. See the JEE Main 2027 registration page for the correction steps.

How much does an answer-key challenge cost?

An answer-key challenge costs ₹200 per question, paid online and non-refundable. It is separate from the JEE Main exam fees. NTA displays the provisional key for about two to three days. For example, challenging five answers costs ₹1,000 (ours). Only paid challenges within the window count. Read the process on the JEE Main answer key page.

Is there a late fee for the JEE Main application?

Yes. The late fee is ₹500, the same for every category, over and above your category fee. It applies from 23 to 26 November 2026 for Session 1 and from 4 to 7 February 2027 for Session 2. NTA publishes no rescheduling fee and no extra-city fee. You can change the exam city only in the correction window. The bulletin gives no price for practice tests. It says a sample or mock test will be on the NTA website.

What hostel and deposit costs come after admission?

Hostel and deposit figures differ by institute. The table lists what each 2026-27 circular prints. Refundable items return to the student under the institute's rules.

InstituteHostel and mess in the circularRefundable deposit

NIT Tiruchirappalli lists a refundable Institute Deposit of ₹6,500 and a Library Deposit of ₹2,600. NIT Karnataka's hostel circular and its fee circular print different hostel line items, so we show both as printed. Check the latest circular of your institute before paying.

Put these costs together for your plan. The JEE Main exam fees for a General male candidate are ₹2,000 for both sessions. The seat fee is ₹30,000, and the first semester at the institute follows. Keep a reserve for GST, a possible correction fee and hostel. Compare options on the JEE Main colleges page before you fill your choices.

He plans the organic content strategy and also owns the structured data that feeds it. He works with a team of product managers, engineers, QA, designers, writers, and SEO specialists. Atul has built a step-by-step content process that uses AI tools with a human in the loop. Every page goes through several stages. It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
