The first check for any JEE Main book is whether its contents page matches the NTA syllabus PDF. NTA names no book in its bulletin, syllabus or FAQs, so every study book on this page is unofficial. The JEE Main books 2027 aspirants use are listed below as widely used titles, with publisher facts only.
NTA does publish free material. It has the syllabus, the bulletin, the FAQs and eight Session 2 question papers of 2026. Use these before you buy any JEE Main books. The latest syllabus file is for 2026, because NTA has released no 2027 syllabus.
No official JEE Main book, no 2027 syllabus yet
2026-10-20As of 20 October 2026, NTA has released no JEE Main 2027 syllabus. Check any book against the 2026 syllabus PDF until NTA publishes a new one. NTA recommends no book, publisher or coaching in its 2026 documents.
JEE Main 2026 syllabus (official PDF)A full shelf of the JEE Main books listed here is at least 19 study books, plus 11 NCERT textbooks. That count is ours. A lean set is five study books, which the prep-style section explains. The JEE Main books price changes, so this page prints none. Read the JEE Main 2027 syllabus page for the unit list.
The best JEE Main books 2027 aspirants can use are the NTA files first. Study books for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics come next. NTA publishes no list of JEE Main recommended books, so the lists below are unofficial.

Our suggestion, not an NTA list
NTA does not prescribe, recommend or sell any of the JEE Main books. Its documents list syllabus units only. These JEE Main books are unofficial and appear here because they are widely used. The sections below sort the best JEE Main books by subject.
No. We searched the 2026 bulletin, the 2026 syllabus and the 2026 FAQs for the words book, textbook, NCERT and reference. None of the three files names any of the JEE Main books. NTA also names no publisher and no coaching.
NTA publishes the six items below. The syllabus, bulletin, FAQs and question papers are free downloads. For the sample test and Abhyas, NTA states no price. Look at them before you spend anything on JEE Main books.
| Item | What it gives | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Syllabus 2026 | Units for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | |
| Information Bulletin 2026 | Pattern, marking, rules and fees | |
| FAQs 2026 | Answers on the form and the exam | |
| Question papers | Eight B.Tech papers of 2, 4, 5 and 6 April 2026 | |
| Sample or mock test | Practice on the NTA website | JEE Main portal |
| National Test Abhyas | NTA mock tests and score reports | NTA Abhyas |
National Test Abhyas is NTA's own mock-test platform. Its page does not say whether it is free, and it does not name JEE Main as a target exam. Check the price on the page before you rely on it.
Widely used JEE Main books for physics are H.C. Verma and D.C. Pandey. JEE Main books for chemistry include Narendra Awasthi, M.S. Chouhan and two Wiley JEE editions. JEE Main books for maths include the Cengage books by G. Tewani. NCERT textbooks sit under all three subjects.
Choose JEE Main books for preparation by checking each against the NTA syllabus PDF. Then count the volumes you can finish. A book you do not finish is money lost. Buy for your weakest subject first. A shorter list of JEE Main books for preparation is easier to finish.
Open the NTA syllabus PDF and the contents page of the book side by side. Tick each unit the book covers. A book that misses a unit is a weaker buy. So is one with many pages on topics outside the PDF.
For JEE Main books 2027, buy the latest edition the publisher lists. The same title often has older editions in shops. Publishers list newer editions for several JEE Main books below. Cengage JEE (Main) Mathematics is in its 4th edition of 2026. Wiley lists 2027 editions for two chemistry titles, and Arihant lists 2027 editions of D.C. Pandey. We could not verify the current editions of H.C. Verma and R.D. Sharma. The profiles section gives the details.
Check the edition before you pay
Cengage still lists an older 3rd edition of its JEE (Main) Mathematics book beside the 4th edition. Look at the edition line on the cover or on the publisher page.
Every prep style starts with the same NTA files. The tabs show which JEE Main books 2027 candidates should add. The advice in the tabs is our editorial judgement, not an NTA rule.
For JEE Main books for Class 11, start with your NCERT Class XI textbooks and the NTA syllabus PDF. Add one problem book per subject only after you finish a unit. This keeps the count of JEE Main books low.
The table counts the study books in a full shelf and in our lean set. The counts are ours, and NCERT textbooks are not counted. R.D. Sharma is counted as one book.
| Subject | Full shelf of listed titles | Lean set (our suggestion) |
|---|---|---|
| Physics | 8 books | 2 books (H.C. Verma) |
| Chemistry | 4 books | 2 books (Awasthi, Chouhan) |
| Mathematics | 7 books | 1 book (Cengage JEE (Main) Mathematics) |
| Total | 19 books | 5 books |
Your weak units matter more than your prep style. Pick JEE Main books 2027 by unit, not by name. Check the JEE Main 2027 exam pattern page for the marks of each subject.
The widely used JEE Main books for physics 2027 are NCERT, H.C. Verma and D.C. Pandey. Irodov is an optional advanced reference. NTA names none of them. The table also shows the number of volumes you would buy.
| Title | Publisher | Volumes |
|---|---|---|
| NCERT Physics, Class XI and XII | NCERT | 4 (Part I and II for each class) |
| Concepts of Physics, H.C. Verma | Bharati Bhawan | 2 |
| Understanding Physics for JEE Main & Advanced 2027, D.C. Pandey | Arihant | 5 |
| Problems in General Physics, I.E. Irodov | CBS Publishers & Distributors | 1 |
NTA does not say. H.C. Verma is two volumes. D.C. Pandey is five books, so it has more volumes to buy and finish. In our judgement, pick one set and finish it. Switch to the other only for a topic where you are stuck.
The publisher describes the D.C. Pandey 2027 books as "Modular Theory, Concept Practice & Two-Level JEE Pattern Exercises". It does not say which level suits JEE Main and which suits JEE Advanced.
Not as a rule, in our judgement. NTA requires no book, and Irodov's Problems in General Physics is an advanced-level reference. A companion solutions book by Abhay Kumar Singh is published by Wiley India. Treat both as optional.
The best JEE Main books for chemistry 2027 are usually picked in three groups: physical, organic and inorganic. NTA names no Chemistry book. The 2026 syllabus PDF lists the units, and each group below should be checked against it.
Narendra Awasthi's "Problems in Physical Chemistry for JEE Main & Advanced" is a widely used problem book for chemistry. Its listing shows the 19th Edition, ISBN 978-93-6802-928-1. The author's name is also spelt Avasthi in some places. The listing prints no publisher line or year, so check the cover.
M.S. Chouhan's "Advanced Problems in Organic Chemistry for JEE" is in its 20th Edition for 2026-27. Its ISBN is 9789368020387, and Shri Balaji Publications is the publisher. Wiley India also lists "Solomons, Fryhle & Snyder Organic Chemistry for JEE (Main & Advanced)". It is a 4th edition of 2027, and M S Chouhan is one of four authors.
Wiley India lists "J.D. Lee Concise Inorganic Chemistry for JEE (Main & Advanced)", 5th edition, 2027. It is an adaptation by J. D. Lee and Sudarsan Guha. Wiley says it gives "a more concise and relevant treatment of Inorganic Chemistry as per JEE syllabus requirements".
NTA does not say so. Wiley markets the JEE edition for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced. In our judgement, a student short of time can start with NCERT Chemistry and the NTA syllabus. Add J.D. Lee only if gaps remain. This is editorial judgement, not an official fact.
NTA names no organic textbook. The Wiley JEE edition is a different product from the international textbook "Organic Chemistry" by the same authors. Check which one you are buying. The JEE edition has 974 pages, so count the study time before you add it.
The widely used JEE Main books for maths are NCERT, the Cengage books by G. Tewani and R.D. Sharma. NTA names none of them. These JEE Main books for maths include a Cengage JEE Main book and a five-volume JEE Advanced set.
| Title | Publisher | Volumes and pages |
|---|---|---|
| NCERT Mathematics, Class XI and XII | NCERT | 3 books (Class XI one, Class XII two) |
| JEE (Main) Mathematics, G. Tewani, 4th ed. 2026 | Cengage | 1 book, 1,124 pages |
| JEE (Advanced) Algebra, Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Vectors and 3D | Cengage | 5 books, 3,622 pages (ours) |
| Objective Mathematics, R.D. Sharma | Dhanpat Rai | Volumes not verified |
The Cengage book titled "JEE (Main) Mathematics" by G. Tewani is the one made for JEE Main. Its 4th edition has copyright 2026 and ISBN 9789366600925. The publisher says the Algebra volume builds skills "required for JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced)". The Advanced set is much longer.
The five volumes together run to 3,622 pages (ours). Algebra has 1,054 pages, Calculus 1,056, Coordinate Geometry 612, Trigonometry 528 and Vectors and 3D Geometry 372. All five are 4th editions of 2026. Buy one volume for a weak topic, not the whole set, unless your plan needs it.
We could not confirm it. A catalogue shows "Objective Mathematics for JEE & other Engineering Entrance Examinations". The publisher is Dhanpat Rai Publication Private Limited, and the record is dated 2018. The ISBN is 9788193647998. We could not verify the number of volumes, the JEE Main label or the latest edition. Check the cover before buying.
None of the JEE Main books 2027 in these profiles is official. Each profile gives the facts we could verify, a strength, a limit and who should use or skip it. Strengths come from publisher text unless marked as our judgement.
No. NTA's bulletin, syllabus and FAQs do not mention NCERT or any book. NCERT textbooks are school books, and NTA does not prescribe them.
NTA has said nothing on this. NCERT is reported to be bringing revised Class 10 and 11 books from 2027-28. We could not open NCERT's own notice, so treat this as unverified. NTA's 2027 syllabus is not out.
We have not verified any Hindi edition. NTA offered the 2026 paper in 13 languages, including Hindi. Check each publisher page for JEE Main books in Hindi medium before you buy.
The price changes, so we print none. The JEE Main books price differs by title and by year. Check the publisher page on the day you buy.
NTA names none. For JEE Main books for Class 11, start with the NCERT Class XI textbooks and the NTA syllabus PDF. Add one problem book per subject after each unit.
NTA does not endorse or require coaching, and it names no coaching in its 2026 documents. JEE Main books and coaching notes both sit outside NTA's own material. The only practice that comes from the exam body is the NTA material.
| Option | What it gives | What we verified |
|---|---|---|
| NTA material | Syllabus, bulletin, FAQs, eight papers | Official; the PDFs are free |
| Study books | Theory and problem sets | Publisher facts only |
| Coaching notes | Topic notes and tests | NTA names none |
Not as a rule. NTA requires neither. Suppose your coaching notes cover each unit in the syllabus PDF. Then add JEE Main books only for the units where you score low. This is our judgement.
NTA states no coaching requirement. Eligibility rules are in the bulletin, and NTA sets no age limit for appearing. Some institutes may set their own age rules. See the JEE Main 2027 registration page for the form rules.
NTA hosts eight JEE Main question papers on its portal, and JEE Main books 2027 cannot replace them. They are the B.Tech papers of 2, 4, 5 and 6 April 2026, with two shifts a day. Books teach the units, and papers show how NTA tests them.
The NTA portal has a Question Papers menu with the eight Session 2 papers of 2026. We found no link for the Session 1 papers of January 2026. We also did not reach a complete NTA archive of earlier years. See the JEE Main question papers page for the list.
Use JEE Main books to learn a unit, then use a paper to test it. This is our suggested order for each unit.
NTA marks +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one. Negative marking applies to both sections, so timed practice matters. The JEE Main exam pattern page has the details.
NTA charges ₹200 per question challenged, and the fee is non-refundable. NTA shows each provisional key for about two to three days. Read the JEE Main answer key page for the process.
NTA does not say, but it hosts papers for free. JEE Main books cover the units. Papers show the question style, so use both.
No book is listed. NTA offers a syllabus, a bulletin, FAQs, papers and a sample test. We found no NTA-published JEE Main books.
NTA gives no split. Our suggestion is to move to papers once a unit is done. Go back to your JEE Main books only for errors.

It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
