This is a two-year postgraduate degree program designed to provide basic and applied knowledge with skills in the production of fruit crops including in-depth knowledge of fruit biology, reproduction biology, fruit breeding, biotechnology, biodiversity conservation, pre-post-harvest management, organic production, and GAP in fruit cultivation. This program helps to familiarize yourself with horticulture as a major and learn biology and chemistry that serves as a base for all future coursework. A Horticulture Technician provides product and service expertise with landscape design and construction including grounds maintenance. This track concentrates on the science and art of growing and maintaining ornamental plants. Students will study plant management, design, and maintenance with a focus on sustainable and regenerative practices. You’ll be prepared for careers at nurseries and greenhouses, botanical gardens, historical gardens, parks, zoos, vineyards, private estates, and scientific research. In addition to obtaining a job with an undergraduate degree in horticulture, the major provides an excellent background for graduate study in the field of plant sciences. Areas of graduate study include plant breeding and plant genetics, horticulture, agronomy, plant pathology, or other related fields such as biology, environmental science, natural resource management, agroecology, and genetics.
