MHT-CET Exam Syllabus 2027

Updated on

By Atul Harsha, Content Manager

MHT CET 2026 has already been conducted, in two sessions during April 2026. The syllabus below is the one the State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell), Government of Maharashtra, set for that cycle, and it stays the reference point until the CET Cell notifies MHT CET 2027. Nothing about MHT CET 2027 has been announced as of 23 September 2026, so this page does not guess at a 2027 syllabus.

The MHT CET syllabus is not the CBSE or NCERT syllabus. It is drawn from the Maharashtra State Board's Class 11 and Class 12 HSC curriculum, published by the CET Cell on its Syllabus and Marking Scheme page. Physics and Chemistry are common to both groups. Mathematics applies only to the PCM (Engineering) group, and Biology only to the PCB (Pharmacy and Agriculture) group. Check the full MHT CET exam overview for how this syllabus fits into the rest of the admission cycle.

MHT CET Syllabus 2026 PDF: Download Complete Syllabus

The CET Cell publishes the MHT CET syllabus as part of its Syllabus and Marking Scheme page at cetcell.mahacet.org, updated for each academic year. For MHT CET 2026, the listing on that page reads "Syllabus of various CET's under Technical Education Department for A.Y. 2026-2027," published 21 November 2025.

What we could confirm, and what we could not

We read the CET Cell's own syllabus and marking-scheme document for the MHT-CET Technical Education group in full, including its exact wording on the 20:80 weightage split, the paper structure and the Class 11 chapter list. The separate PDF file for the A.Y. 2026-2027 cycle, listed on the CET Cell's Syllabus and Marking Scheme page, did not open as a stable, directly linkable file during this research pass. Everything sourced to the CET Cell on this page comes from a document we actually read, and every figure that only test-prep portals report is labelled as such.

Two ways to get the current file directly from the source:

  1. Go to cetcell.mahacet.org, open "Syllabus and Marking Scheme" from the main menu, and download the "All courses under Technical Education" entry for the current academic year.
  2. Open the MHT-CET 2026 Information Brochure on the same site. Its Appendix 6, titled "Syllabus of MHT-CET 2026," points to the same syllabus document.

The chapter lists in this page's Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology sections below come from the CET Cell's own syllabus and marking-scheme document for the MHT-CET Technical Education group, cross-checked against Careers360, Shiksha, Collegedunia and other MHT CET prep portals reporting on the 2026 cycle. Where a specific chapter-wise weightage percentage could not be confirmed as an official CET Cell figure, this page says so rather than printing a number that looks precise but is not sourced.

MHT CET Syllabus 2026: Highlights

The MHT CET 2026 syllabus covers four subjects across Class 11 and Class 12. The table below gives the numbers you need before you open a single chapter.

Here is what those numbers mean in plain terms.

Physics and Chemistry are common to PCM and PCB. You study the same Physics and Chemistry syllabus whether you are targeting engineering or pharmacy.

Class 11 carries about 20% weightage, Class 12 about 80%. The CET Cell's own syllabus document for the Technical Education group of exams, which covers MHT CET, states this directly: "Approximately 20% weightage will be given to Std. XI curriculum and 80% weightage will be given to Std. XII curriculum while setting the question paper" (State CET Cell, Syllabus and Marking Scheme for MHT-CET, cetcell.mahacet.org). Multiple test-prep portals reporting on the 2026 cycle, including Careers360 and Shiksha, repeat the same 20:80 split, so it has not changed for MHT CET 2026.

Difficulty is benchmarked, not invented. The same CET Cell document states that Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics questions are set "at par with the JEE (Main)" in difficulty, while Biology questions are set "at par with NEET." Questions are mainly application-based, not straight recall.

There is no negative marking. You lose nothing for attempting a question you are unsure about. Check the MHT CET exam pattern page for how this affects your attempt strategy.

What is the MHT CET syllabus based on?

The MHT CET syllabus is based on the Maharashtra State Board (SCERT Maharashtra, Balbharati textbooks) Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum, not on CBSE or NCERT. The CET Cell's own syllabus document opens with this line: "The questions will be based on Syllabus of State Council Of Educational Research And Training, Maharashtra" (State CET Cell, cetcell.mahacet.org). If you are studying from NCERT for JEE Main or NEET alongside MHT CET, you still need to check your topics against the Maharashtra board textbook, because the chapter names and the order of topics differ in places.

MHT CET 2026 Physics Syllabus: Topics and Weightage

What does the MHT CET 2026 Physics syllabus cover?

The MHT CET 2026 Physics syllabus covers 9 chapters from Class 11 and the full Class 12 Physics textbook. Physics and Chemistry together form one combined 100-mark, 90-minute block, with every question worth 1 mark. The official brochure does not publish an exact question count for Physics alone, though most prep portals work off an assumed 50-question, 50-mark split as a study estimate, not a confirmed CET Cell figure.

Motion in a Plane, Laws of Motion, Gravitation, Thermal Properties of Matter, Sound, Optics, Electrostatics, Semiconductors, and Vectors with Error Analysis. This is the CET Cell's own named list for Std XI Physics β€” it is not the whole Class 11 textbook, only these named chapters count.

The Class 11 list above is the CET Cell's own named selection, read from its syllabus and marking-scheme document. Unlike Class 12, where the entire textbook applies, Class 11 Physics only contributes these specific chapters β€” a chapter left off this list is out of scope for MHT CET even if it is in your Class 11 textbook.

Which Physics chapters get the most questions in MHT CET?

Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Electromagnetic Induction and Semiconductor Devices come up most often in past MHT CET papers, according to MHT CET coaching portals such as Careers360 and Target Publications. These are portal-reported patterns from past papers, not a weightage figure the CET Cell has published, so treat them as a study priority signal rather than a guaranteed mark split.

MHT CET 2026 Chemistry Syllabus: Topics and Weightage

What does the MHT CET 2026 Chemistry syllabus cover?

The MHT CET 2026 Chemistry syllabus, like Physics, sits inside the same combined 100-mark, 90-minute Physics-Chemistry block, with every question worth 1 mark. The official brochure does not break this block into a per-subject question count. The commonly assumed 50-question, 50-mark split for Chemistry is a prep-portal estimate, not an official CET Cell figure.

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Chemical Bonding, Redox Reactions, Elements of Group 1 and 2, States of Matter (Gaseous and Liquids), Adsorption and Colloids (Surface Chemistry), Hydrocarbons, and Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry. This is the CET Cell's named Std XI Chemistry list.

Chemistry splits roughly into three parts across both years: Physical Chemistry (thermodynamics, kinetics, electrochemistry, solutions), Inorganic Chemistry (structure of atom, chemical bonding, p and d-block elements, coordination compounds), and Organic Chemistry (hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, amines, biomolecules). A candidate weak in one part usually loses 15 to 17 marks out of the 50, so identify your weak third early rather than revising all of Chemistry evenly.

Which Chemistry chapters carry the most weight?

Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics and the Alcohols-Aldehydes-Carboxylic Acids block appear most consistently in MHT CET Chemistry papers, per Collegedunia and Target Publications' review of past-year papers. As with Physics, this is a pattern read from previous papers by prep portals, not an official CET Cell weightage table.

MHT CET 2026 Mathematics and Biology Syllabus: Topics and Weightage

Mathematics applies only if you are in the PCM group. Biology applies only if you are in the PCB group. You never study both unless you register for both groups.

What does the MHT CET 2026 Mathematics syllabus cover?

Mathematics carries 50 questions worth 2 marks each, for 100 marks, the highest-value section in the PCM paper.

Trigonometry II, Straight Line, Circle, Measures of Dispersion, Probability, Complex Numbers, Permutations and Combinations, Functions, Limits, and Continuity. This is the CET Cell's named Std XI Mathematics list.

Because each Mathematics question is worth 2 marks, a single silly mistake costs double what it costs in Physics or Chemistry. Calculus (Differentiation, Integration and their applications) and Coordinate Geometry (Circle, Conics, Vectors, Three-Dimensional Geometry) together make up more than a third of the Class 12 Mathematics chapters, so most MHT CET coaching material treats them as the priority block.

What does the MHT CET 2026 Biology syllabus cover?

Biology carries 100 questions worth 1 mark each, for 100 marks, the same total as Mathematics but split across twice as many questions.

Biomolecules, Respiration and Energy Transfer, Human Nutrition, and Excretion and Osmoregulation. This is the CET Cell's named Std XI Biology list, shorter than the other three subjects.

Biology has the smallest Class 11 list of the four subjects, just four chapters, which means almost all your Biology score for MHT CET comes from Class 12. This differs from NEET Biology, which draws more evenly across both years, so a PCB candidate also targeting NEET should not assume identical prep priorities for the two exams.

MHT CET 2026 Syllabus: Section-Wise Important Topics

No official CET Cell document gives a chapter-by-chapter mark split. Our Overview research pass on this exam confirmed that the CET Cell's subject-wise marking-scheme PDF did not extract as clean text, and this pass could not independently confirm the specific percentage tables that some coaching portals publish for individual chapters. What follows is a consolidated view of which chapters MHT CET prep portals most consistently flag as high-frequency, based on their review of past papers, not an official weightage.

Physics: chapters portals flag as high-frequency

Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Electromagnetic Induction, Rotational Dynamics, Semiconductor Devices, Wave Optics.

Chemistry: chapters portals flag as high-frequency

Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Alcohols Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, p-Block Elements.

Mathematics: chapters portals flag as high-frequency

Integration and its Applications, Differentiation and Applications of Derivatives, Probability Distribution, Vectors and Three-Dimensional Geometry, Matrices.

Biology: chapters portals flag as high-frequency

Genetics and Evolution, Human Physiology and Reproduction, Biotechnology, Ecology and Organisms and Environment.

Use this list to decide what to revise first, not to skip chapters left off it. Every chapter named in the official Class 11 list and every chapter in the Class 12 textbook is fair game for a question. Check the MHT CET question paper archive to see which of these chapters actually appeared in recent years, in the candidate's own words, not a portal's summary.

MHT CET 2026 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

How is the MHT CET 2026 question paper structured?

MHT CET runs as three linked papers inside one 180-minute sitting: Mathematics or Biology, and a combined Physics-Chemistry paper. Each group only sits two of the three.

Paper I β€” Mathematics: 50 questions, 2 marks each, 100 marks, 90 minutes.

Paper II β€” Physics and Chemistry: 100 questions combined, 1 mark each, 100 marks, 90 minutes. The official brochure gives only this combined total. It does not publish an exact Physics-vs-Chemistry split, so the commonly assumed 50/50 divide is an unofficial estimate.

Total: 150 questions, 200 marks, 180 minutes.

The MHT-CET 2026 Information Brochure states the sequencing directly: the first 90 minutes cover Physics and Chemistry, which are auto-submitted at the 90-minute mark, and the remaining 90 minutes cover Mathematics for PCM or Biology for PCB (State CET Cell, MHT-CET 2026 Information Brochure, cetcell.mahacet.org). You cannot go back to Physics and Chemistry once that first 90 minutes ends.

Is there negative marking in MHT CET 2026?

No, MHT CET 2026 has no negative marking. You do not lose marks for a wrong answer, so attempt every question rather than leaving any blank. Every MHT CET brochure since at least the 2024 cycle carries the same "no negative marking" line, so this is a stable feature of the exam, not something to double-check each year.

For the full breakdown of timing strategy, options per question and how MHT CET differs from JEE Main's pattern, see the MHT CET exam pattern page.

Has the MHT CET syllabus changed in recent years?

Yes, the MHT CET syllabus went through a real reduction during the COVID-19 disruption, and that reduction has since been phased out. Maharashtra's state textbook board, the Maharashtra Rajya Pathya Pustak Nirmiti and Abhyaskram Sanshodhan Mandal, had trimmed portions of the Class 12 HSC syllabus for the pandemic years, and MHT CET brochures from that period carried a note excluding those trimmed portions.

  1. 2021-2022

    COVID-era syllabus cut applied

State board trimmed sections of the Class 12 HSC syllabus. MHT CET syllabus notes from that period excluded the same portions.

  2. 2023-2024

    Reduction phased out

State board syllabus returned toward its pre-pandemic scope over these cycles.

  3. 2026

    Full syllabus, no COVID-era cut

MHT CET prep portals tracking the 2026 cycle, including Target Publications, report no significant portions officially removed or reduced from the MHT CET syllabus for 2026.

We could not independently verify against a freshly opened 2026-27 CET Cell PDF whether specific individual chapters moved between years β€” for instance, some portals report that Vectors and Error Analysis were added to the Physics Class 11 list, and Measures of Dispersion was dropped from the Mathematics Class 11 list, for the 2026 cycle. Our own reading of the CET Cell's syllabus document already includes Vectors and Error Analysis in the Physics list above. Treat the specific removal from Mathematics as portal-reported, not independently confirmed by us against an official document this pass.

Is the MHT CET syllabus the same as CBSE?

No, MHT CET's syllabus is the Maharashtra State Board syllabus, not the CBSE or NCERT syllabus. The two overlap heavily in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology concepts, since both are Class 11 and 12 science curricula, but chapter names, chapter order and some topic depth differ.

This matters most for students studying outside Maharashtra who plan to appear for MHT CET under one of its non-Maharashtra candidature categories. No official CET Cell guidance walks CBSE students through the difference chapter by chapter. As general preparation advice, not an official instruction: read the CET Cell's own Class 11 and Class 12 topic lists on this page against your CBSE textbook's chapter list, and pick up a Maharashtra State Board (Balbharati) textbook for any chapter that does not map cleanly, particularly in Chemistry's inorganic sections and Physics's wave and optics chapters, where the two boards sequence content differently.

How to Prepare for MHT CET 2026 as per the Syllabus

How should I plan MHT CET preparation around the syllabus?

Start with the Class 12 chapters, since they carry roughly 80% of the marks in every subject, then circle back to the named Class 11 chapters. Trying to cover both years in the order your school teaches them usually means Class 11 eats time that Class 12 needed more.

Step 1: Map your board textbook to this syllabus

If you study on a Maharashtra Board (Balbharati) textbook, your syllabus and your board exam syllabus are close to identical. If you study on CBSE or another board, list every chapter above and tick off which ones your own textbook already covers well.

Step 2: Prioritise Class 12 first

Class 12 is roughly 80% of the paper in every subject. Finish the full Class 12 textbook in each subject before doing a deep revision of Class 11.

Step 3: Do the named Class 11 chapters only

Do not revise your entire Class 11 textbook for MHT CET. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology each have a specific, shorter named list of Class 11 chapters (given in the sections above). Revising chapters outside that list wastes time MHT CET will not reward.

Step 4: Practise MCQs, not long-answer questions

MHT CET is entirely multiple-choice with no negative marking. Board-exam style long-answer practice builds understanding but does not build the speed MHT CET needs. Shift to MCQ practice at least 3 months before the exam.

Step 5: Time yourself against the real pattern

Practise Physics and Chemistry together in one 90-minute block, and Mathematics or Biology in a separate 90-minute block, matching the actual MHT CET sequencing, not a mixed mock.

Which books help most for MHT CET 2026 preparation?

Your Maharashtra State Board (Balbharati) Class 11 and Class 12 textbooks are the base for every MHT CET question, since the CET Cell sets the paper directly from them. MHT CET prep portals and coaching institutes most often pair these with MCQ-format reference books built specifically for MHT CET's Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology sections. See the full MHT CET recommended books page for a subject-wise list.

How does the syllabus connect to my MHT CET score and college shortlist?

A subject you skip in preparation shows up directly as a score gap you cannot make up elsewhere, since MHT CET has no choice of questions within a subject. Check the MHT CET cutoff page to see what score your target branch and category needed in recent years, and the MHT CET colleges page for which institutes accept the score, so your subject-wise prep targets a real number, not a vague "do well" goal.

Commonly asked questions

Answers to what readers ask most often.

Q: Is the MHT CET 2026 syllabus based on CBSE or Maharashtra State Board?

The MHT CET 2026 syllabus is based on the Maharashtra State Board (SCERT Maharashtra) Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum, not CBSE or NCERT. The CET Cell's own syllabus document states questions are set on this state board syllabus. CBSE students appearing for MHT CET should cross-check their textbook chapters against the Maharashtra board list on this page. Data Sources: State CET Cell, Syllabus and Marking Scheme, cetcell.mahacet.org.

Q: What is the weightage of Class 11 and Class 12 in MHT CET 2026?

Class 11 carries approximately 20% weightage and Class 12 carries approximately 80% weightage in MHT CET 2026, for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology alike. This ratio comes directly from the CET Cell's syllabus and marking-scheme document and is repeated consistently by MHT CET prep portals reporting on the 2026 cycle. Data Sources: State CET Cell, Syllabus and Marking Scheme, cetcell.mahacet.org.

Q: Do I need to study the whole Class 11 textbook for MHT CET?

No, only a specific, named set of Class 11 chapters counts toward MHT CET, unlike Class 12 where the full textbook applies. Physics has 9 named Class 11 chapters, Chemistry 9, Mathematics 10 and Biology just 4. Chapters outside these named lists are not tested, even if your school covers them. Data Sources: State CET Cell, Syllabus and Marking Scheme, cetcell.mahacet.org.

Q: Is Mathematics compulsory for MHT CET?

No, Mathematics is compulsory only for the PCM group, which leads to engineering and technology admissions. The PCB group studies Biology instead of Mathematics, for admission to pharmacy and agriculture degree courses. A candidate can register for both groups and study both subjects if targeting both admission routes.
