EMAT Exam Cutoff 2026

35% of the total marks is the EMAT cutoff for General applicants to EPGP-IL batch 19 (2026-28). The EMAT cutoff is the minimum share of total marks that IIM Kozhikode (IIMK) needs before the interview call. Other categories have lower EMAT cutoff percentages, from 20% to 30%. This is the category-wise EMAT 2027 cutoff position in the latest official policy. EMAT stands for Executive Management Aptitude Test, the entrance test for the MBA for Working Executives (earlier called EPGP).

No EMAT 2027 cutoff is announced yet

2026-10-20

The figures on this page are from the IIMK admission policy for EPGP-IL batch 19 (2026-28), the latest official policy. IIMK has announced no 2027 cycle, and it reserves the right to change cut-off scores.

The EMAT cutoff only makes you eligible for the interview. The seat depends on the merit list that follows. The EMAT exam results page explains what happens next. The EMAT dates 2027 page has the phase calendar.

Cutoff

The EMAT cutoff is a minimum percentage of total marks, set by category. The sections below give each figure and what it means.

EMAT Cutoff 2027: Key Highlights

The EMAT cutoff is a qualifying bar, not a rank or an institute-wise cutoff. Only IIM Kozhikode uses EMAT exam for its own MBA for Working Executives, so there is one EMAT cutoff table.

What does the EMAT cutoff mean?

The EMAT cutoff is the minimum percentage of total marks you need to move to the Personal Interview. IIMK says candidates who meet the cutoff are considered eligible for the next stage. It is not the same as the closing rank of a college, and it is not a percentile. IIMK has not published the total marks of the test. This page lists the category-wise percentages only.

Is the EMAT cutoff the same for every IIM?

No. EMAT is the test of IIM Kozhikode for its executive MBA. IIM Kashipur runs a separate test with the same name and publishes no cutoff for it. A CAT cutoff, such as 75 percentile at IIMK, is a different thing.

EMAT Cutoff 2027: Marks Needed for the Interview (EPGP-IL Batch 19)

The EMAT cutoff for EPGP-IL batch 19 is 35% of total marks for General and lower for reserved categories. The table also shows the minimum you need in the Personal Interview. Both bars apply together.

CategoryEMAT marks needed (% of total)Interview minimum (%)
General35%25%
OBC (NC), EWS and Women30%20%
SC25%15%
ST20%15%
PwD20%15%

The interview minimum is a percentage of standardised marks. IIMK standardises the Personal Interview marks to offset differences between panels.

What is the EMAT cutoff for 2027?

IIMK has not announced the EMAT 2027 cutoff. The EPGP-IL batch 19 figures are the latest official ones. The IIMK admission policy says it may modify the admission process, cut-off scores and other policies at its discretion. Plan for these figures, but read the next policy when it is out. Until then, take the batch 19 figures as the likely 2027 bar. This is an expectation, not an IIMK statement. The March 2026 policy and the August 2026 policy have the same EMAT cutoff figures.

EMAT Cutoff 2027: Category-Wise Details

The EMAT cutoff depends on the category you claim at the time of application. The category-wise figures below are the latest official ones. You cannot change the category after you submit the form. The categories are General, OBC (NC), EWS, Women, SC, ST and PwD.

A category claim needs a valid certificate. This holds for every category-wise figure above. For OBC (NC), EWS and caste claims, the certificate must be issued after 1 January 2026. Check this before you apply, because the EMAT registration process asks for the upload.

The degree marks needed to apply also change with category. This is separate from the cutoff.

CategoryMinimum marks in degree
General, OBC (NC), EWS50%
Women45%
SC, ST, PwD40%

CA, ICWA and CS holders without a bachelor's degree need 50% in all categories. Work experience is 3 years (1095 days) for every category.

Is the EMAT cutoff lower for women?

Yes. Women need 30% of total marks, the same as OBC (NC) and EWS candidates. The minimum degree marks for women are 45% instead of 50%. The interview minimum is 20%, also the same as OBC (NC) and EWS.

EMAT Sectional Cutoff: None Published

IIMK publishes no sectional EMAT cutoff. It states the cutoff as a percentage of total marks only. This means the policy names no minimum for any one group of questions.

The official sample papers have three groups. These are Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning with Data Interpretation, and Verbal Ability. A candidate who is strong in one group cannot assume a weak group is safe. IIMK has not said how the groups are marked. Prepare all three groups. The EMAT exam pattern page keeps the facts on the pattern in one place.

EMAT Marks vs Percentile: Not Applicable, and the CAT, GMAT, GRE Option

EMAT has no percentile and no scaled score. The cutoff is a percentage of total marks. This section also shows the other bar that matters: the scores that replace EMAT.

For EPGP-IL batch 19, a valid CAT, GMAT or GRE score at these minimums replaces EMAT.

TestMinimum score
CAT75 percentile
GMAT700
GREVerbal 151, Quant 152, Writing 3.5

The score must be not older than 3 years as on 17 May 2026. That is the date of the first EMAT in that cycle. A candidate with such a score does not take EMAT. The score still counts for 40% of the merit list, like an EMAT score. The Personal Interview then carries 60%.

Does a higher EMAT score help beyond the EMAT cutoff?

Yes. IIMK adds the test score at 40% weightage to the interview at 60% to make the merit list. The policy states that securing only the minimum score does not mean admission. The EMAT cutoff is a floor, not a target.

EMAT Cutoff 2027 for Top Institutes: Only IIM Kozhikode Uses It

Only IIM Kozhikode publishes an EMAT cutoff. The table shows each institute that has a test called EMAT.

Institute and programmeCutoff publishedDegree marks needed

IIM Kozhikode, EPGP KochiNot on the pages checkedSee the Kochi eligibility page
IIM Kashipur, Executive MBANo cutoff published45% to 50%

IIM Kozhikode ranked 3rd in the NIRF India Rankings 2025, Management category. This is an institute rank, not a rank for the executive programme. The Kochi eligibility rules are on the IIMK EPGP Kochi eligibility page.

Does IIM Kashipur have an EMAT cutoff?

No cutoff is published for the IIM Kashipur EMAT. Its merit list uses a CAT, GMAT or EMAT score, academic performance, work experience and an interview. Its degree marks are 50% for General, 47% for NC-OBC and 45% for SC, ST and DAP. IIM Kashipur has announced its EMAT for 26 December 2026.

IIMK publishes no EMAT cutoff for any year before batch 19. All four phases of batch 19 use the same cutoff percentages. The policy from March 2026 covered Phases I to III. The policy from August 2026 added Phase IV, and the cutoff figures did not change.

One rule has changed between IIMK documents. The 2023 Kochi brochure said a GMAT or GRE score must be at most 1 year old on EMAT day. The 2026 EPGP-IL policy says 3 years. These are different programmes, so the Kochi rule for 2027-2029 is not known.

Do not rely on any older cutoff or past-year number you see elsewhere. Without an IIMK document behind it, such a number cannot be checked.

Factors Determining EMAT Cutoff 2027

Your category is the main factor, because the cutoff changes with it. IIMK has not said how it sets the bars from year to year. It lists these points in its policy and FAQ.

  • Category: the category-wise cutoff runs from 20% to 35%.
  • IIMK discretion: the institute may modify the cut-off scores at its discretion.
  • Interview bar: a second minimum applies after standardising interview marks.
  • Merit list: the test score counts for 40% and the interview for 60%.
  • Work experience: the policy says the score for work experience is included, but no weight is published.
  • Other record: the Kochi FAQ also lists school board marks, degree marks, and years and nature of work experience.

EMAT Cutoff: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the EMAT cutoff the same as the cutoff for admission?

No. The cutoff only makes you eligible for the interview. The seat depends on the merit list of the test score and the interview.

2. What happens if I score exactly the minimum EMAT cutoff?

You are eligible for the interview, but not sure of a seat. The policy says securing only the minimum score does not mean admission.

3. Is the cutoff a percentile?

No. It is a percentage of total marks. The CAT route is the one that uses a percentile, at 75 or more.

4. Will the EMAT cutoff change in 2027?

IIMK has not said. It has announced no 2027 cycle for EPGP-IL. The EPGP Kochi page says 2027-2029 admissions will start soon.
