Before you buy any of the EMAT books, solve one of the four free IIMK sample papers. IIM Kozhikode publishes no official EMAT book. EMAT stands for Executive Management Aptitude Test. It is the entrance test for the MBA for Working Executives (earlier called EPGP) at IIM Kozhikode. Every study book on this page is unofficial and is marked that way.
The best EMAT books 2027 applicants can use are the official sample papers first. Study books come next, for topics where you score low.
IIMK recommends no EMAT books by name, and no study book is official. The EPGP Kochi FAQ calls EMAT broadly similar to CAT and GMAT. Books for those tests cover the same skill areas.

| Skill group | Start with | Type |

| All three groups | IIMK sample papers | Official |
| Quant, reasoning and DI | Arun Sharma and R.S. Aggarwal titles | Unofficial |
| Verbal and vocabulary | Arun Sharma and Meenakshi Upadhyay, Norman Lewis | Unofficial |
No. IIMK publishes only sample papers for EMAT. It has no official guide, no syllabus and no free practice portal. Any of the EMAT books in a shop is unofficial, and none is made by IIMK. The EMAT question papers page lists the four official files.
Choose EMAT books by the skill group where you score lowest in a sample paper. IIM Kozhikode says the test assesses basic logical, numerical and verbal ability. Buy one book for each weak group, not a full shelf.
Pick a book with graded practice, since you will mostly revise topics you learned years ago. Check the edition and year yourself before you buy. We have not verified the latest edition of any title below. A new edition of these EMAT books 2027 buyers see in shops may exist.
All four prep styles start with one IIMK sample paper, and the tabs show what to add.
You studied maths long ago. Solve one sample paper, then use one quant title for arithmetic and one vocabulary title. Revise topics in the order of your errors.
Your prep style matters less than your weak group, so pick EMAT books by group. A candidate with a valid CAT, GMAT or GRE score at the IIMK minimum may not need EMAT at all. The EMAT cutoff page lists those minimums.
The IIMK sample papers are the only official EMAT practice material, and they are free. IIM Kozhikode posts them on its own site. There is one paper for EPGP-IL and three for EPGP Kochi.
| Paper | Programme | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| EPGP-IL sample | MBA for Working Executives (IL-Kozhikode) | 40 |
| Kochi samples A, B, C | MBA for Working Executives (Kochi Campus) | 60 each |
All four EMAT sample papers are dated 2023 and have no answer key. The IL file is a scanned image. IIMK says the samples relate to earlier tests and that it may change the test. Download the EMAT sample papers from the EMAT exam question papers page. The pattern facts are on the EMAT exam pattern page.
Solve the EPGP-IL sample first if you apply to IIM Kozhikode IL. It has 40 questions in three groups. IIMK does not say the live IL test has the same length. Use the Kochi samples next as extra practice. The EMAT sample papers for Kochi have 60 questions each.
The EMAT sample papers test arithmetic, number series, data tables and puzzles. These EMAT books for quant and reasoning are unofficial. They were written for CAT or general competitive tests.
| Book | Author | Publisher |
|---|---|---|
| How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude for the CAT | Arun Sharma | McGraw Hill |
| How to Prepare for Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning for the CAT | Arun Sharma | McGraw Hill |
| Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations | R.S. Aggarwal | S. Chand |
No book is the best, because IIMK names none. Pick the one that matches the topics in your weak group. Among EMAT books, a CAT title is the usual choice. The topics seen in the samples include averages, profit and discount, time and work, interest, ratio, probability and number series. The EMAT syllabus 2027 page lists them.
The verbal group in the samples has synonyms, antonyms, error spotting, odd one out, sentence completion and reading comprehension. These two EMAT books are unofficial.
| Book | Author | Use |
|---|---|---|
| How to Prepare for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension for the CAT | Arun Sharma and Meenakshi Upadhyay | Verbal ability and reading comprehension |
| Word Power Made Easy | Norman Lewis | Vocabulary |
The publisher and latest edition of Word Power Made Easy are not verified here. Check them on the cover before buying.
None of these EMAT books is official. Each profile says what the book is, who should use it and who can skip it. We have not checked the contents of these titles against the EMAT samples.
IIMK has said nothing about coaching for EMAT, and it publishes no coaching material. EMAT is a screening test for working professionals. IIMK describes it as testing basic ability.
For most applicants, the four sample papers and one or two EMAT books are enough to start. Coaching notes can help if you need a fixed schedule. Check twice before you pay for a long course, since IIM Kozhikode states no EMAT syllabus. A CAT-level course may cover more than EMAT needs. Books vs coaching is a choice about your time. EMAT books let you study after work at your own pace.
IIMK publishes no previous year EMAT paper, so the sample papers do the job of PYQs. Use them to find weak topics, then use EMAT books to fix them. Follow this loop.
With only four papers, do not use them up in one week. Keep at least two for the last stage. The EMAT registration page explains what to do before the test.
Often, for topics. The EPGP Kochi FAQ says EMAT is broadly similar to tests such as CAT and GMAT. Judge your level from a sample paper before you buy EMAT books.
Not for IIMK. The IIMK sample papers have no General Knowledge group. The IIM Kashipur EMAT sample paper does, but that is a separate test.
The latest one you can find. We have not verified the editions or years of these EMAT books.

It starts with research, where each fact is checked on the official source. A second, independent source is then used to confirm that the fact is correct and the latest. Third-party sites are used only to spot differences and are never treated as a source. Before writing, the team studies what students actually search for and what the top results leave out. This study covers Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, including AI answers and “People also ask” questions. Pages written by Atul are in plain English that can be understood in one read, and they open with the question the reader is most likely to have. Before a page goes live, every number, name, date, and fact is checked again against its official source. Finally, an editor reads and humanises every page, however good the draft is. Atul believes that advice on education should be simple, honest, and based on official facts. Fees and figures should come with their source. A student should be told clearly when a college is not the right fit.
