Become a more effective and democratic instructional leader in diverse school environments with the Master of Arts in Instructional Leadership (ILED). Upon completion of the program, candidates will be eligible to add either the principal or teacher leader endorsement to their Illinois teaching licenses.
The program in educational leadership is designed for students who wish to be educational leaders in schools, post-secondary institutions, professional associations, nonprofit organizations, and government.
The MA in Instructional Leadership prepares licensed teachers to become teacher leaders, assistant principals, and principals in diverse schools and community contexts. All goals, activities, outcomes, field experiences, assessments, and internship courses meet state rules and regulations. They are aligned with the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC, 2008) Standards and the College of Education's Conceptual Framework.
The program works in close partnership with five school districts in the northwest Chicago suburbs to admit candidates, deliver training and instruction, and assess outcomes. A subsidiary partnership with the national non-profit organization Kids At Hope (KAH) also is a distinctive feature of the degree. KAH works with schools and other community-based agencies to implement strategies that strengthen the belief that "all children are capable of success -- no exceptions."
