WVC’s Gunsmithing program is one of the few gunsmithing programs in the nation. Gunsmithing is a highly specialized blend of machining, metal-working, woodworking, and artisanship. The program covers how to repair, modify, design, build and fabricate firearms.

Students in the program also receive lessons on using hand tools and machine shop tools as well as lessons in ethics, federal, state and local firearm laws.

Graduates of the Gunsmithing program will have the basic knowledge and skills needed to become a professional gunsmith. The program also includes gun safety, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms background checks and licensing and in-depth studies of state and federal rules and regulations concerning firearms, their manufacture and sale.

Students engage in lab activities related to the process of gunsmithing under the supervision of their instructor. Students in the program will learn about and make use of various labs that support gunsmithing instruction such as the Machine Tool lab, Welding lab, Gunsmithing Instructional lab, Bluing lab, Metal Finishing lab and firearms vault.

Completion of the program includes coursework in firearms design and function, stock-making, bench metal work, gun bluing and metal finishing. Graduates of the Gunsmithing program will have the ability to custom design, build, repair and modify firearms.

Illinois Eastern Community Colleges District #529 (IECC) is located in o 3.000- square-mile (7,800 km) area of South-eastern Illinois near the lllinois-lndiana border.

The multi-college District includes Frontier Community College (FCC) at Fairfield, Lincoln Trail College (LTC) at Robinson, Olney Central College (OCC) at Olney, and Wabash Valley College (WVC) at Mt. Carmel.
