North Island College (NIC) and its students have undergone transformational growth and change since its foundation in 1975. From its humble beginning with a portable trailer and a few converted school buses, NIC has now attained an international reputation for its distance learning delivery and indigenous perspectives integration into the curriculum of nursing schools across Canada.
Over the past 40 years, NIC has achieved another impressive feat as over 155,000 people have taken a course or completed a program under it.
From the start, NIC's mandate was to provide post-secondary education across 80,000 km², an area larger than New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island combined. This geography and the drive to provide high-quality and cost-efficient education throughout the region has fueled NIC's accomplishments, sparked innovation, and provided industry access to a locally trained workforce.
The Campbell River campus is situated at 1685 South Dogwood St., sharing its location with Timberline Secondary. The shared location allows an easier transition for students from high school into post-secondary.
Through the Youth Train in Trades program, the Campbell River campus offers opportunities for high school students to start their Trades careers while still in high school. It is also home to the Third Course Bistro and the Centre for Applied Research, Technology, and Innovation (CARTI).
