The Bachelor of Engineering (Automotive Engineering) (Honours)/Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) at RMIT University is a unique double degree program that offers students comprehensive knowledge and skills within automotive engineering and industrial design disciplines.
In the automotive engineering portion, students learn about automotive design and technologies, vehicle systems, sustainability issues in design and manufacture, combustion, hybrid propulsion, and vehicle dynamics. Students can also learn to design automotive parts and systems, gain skills in project management, and apply innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
In the Industrial design module, students learn to analyze and create tangible products that enhance the quality of people’s lives. They cover visual communication, CAD modelling, ergonomics, materials, production techniques and strategies in industrial design.
At the end of the program, students will have the skills needed to work not only in the automotive industry, but also in product, transport and product-system design, in automotive engineering design or in the automotive industry including autonomous, electric and hybrid vehicles.
This double degree program is typically 5 years long and provides both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience through laboratory work and industry placements. Graduates from the program will hold an accredited honours degree which meets the requirements for membership of Engineers Australia.
