The Bachelor of Design (Architecture)/ Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is an integrated, multidisciplinary degree aiming to equip students with a comprehensive set of skills in both architecture and engineering. This five-year program blends the creativity of architectural design with the precision of engineering principles, such as structural integrity and sustainability.
During the program, students will have the chance to undertake real-world projects, learning from research-active experts and professionals in the field. They will work on complex designs and explore evolving architectural and engineering practices, and the impact of these on community, culture, and the environment.
In terms of engineering, students can pick from several majors including but not limited to civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Similarly, for architecture, the program follows a sequence where students first master the skills of interpreting and creating design, which leads into a more detailed study of town planning and landscape architecture.
Upon completion of the program, graduates are anticipated to be able to navigate the complexities of modern architectural and engineering issues, working fluidly in teams, and effectively communicating design concepts and solutions. The graduates could potentially have a competitive edge in the job market due to their dual degree that merges the creative and technical aspects of both architecture and engineering.
