The Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology prepares students or recognises and develops existing workers who are repairing, maintaining and re-manufacturing the body of vehicles in the automotive industry.An automotive body repair mechanic (panel beater) carries out repairs on the frame and bodywork of cars and other vehicles in order to make the damaged vehicles safe and roadworthy and to restore it to its original pre-accident condition. Job roles related to this qualification include: vehicle body repair technician.When a customer arrives with an accident damaged vehicle the first job of a panel beater is to identify the parts of the frame and bodywork that have been affected, assess the extent of the damage and provide the customer with an estimate of the time and cost required to repair it.

A panel beater will then repair any scratches and dents on the body work (using panel beating techniques, such as planishing and body filling), replace any damaged parts, straight en and align the frame or unibody and, finally carryout refinishing and repainting.
