The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and Bachelor of Actuarial Science (BAcSc) program at Monash University is a double degree course that offers students the opportunity to study in two fields, allowing them to broaden their knowledge and expertise.
The BCom program provides students with a broad understanding of various aspects of commerce including accounting, business law, finance, management, and marketing. It equips students with the necessary critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills to navigate the complex world of commerce.
The BAcSc program, on the other hand, prepares students to evaluate risk and opportunity in a business context. It deals with the financial impact of risk and uncertainty, combining mathematical statistics, financial mathematics, economics, and accounting. In this program, students learn techniques used by actuarial professionals in insurance, pension, investment, and other financial fields. Graduates often pursue careers as actuaries, risk analysts, consultants, or financial analysts.
On completion of the double degree course, students are awarded two degrees, opening up more job opportunities in both commerce and actuarial science industries.
