The Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Chemical Sciences) / Master of Engineering (Materials) program at Flinders University is a dual-degree course spanning five years. The course combines a deep understanding of chemistry with a specialist knowledge of materials engineering.
The program enables students to gain solid knowledge in the theory and practical aspects of chemical sciences and materials engineering. Topics covered include analytical chemistry, physical and quantum chemistry, and materials engineering principles. The curriculum includes lectures, laboratory work, and industry placements.
Upon completion, the graduates are expected to have developed critical thinking skills, problem-solving ability, and a creative approach to conceptualizing and solving complex chemical and materials engineering problems. The course prepares students for a variety of professions, including roles as chemical engineers, materials engineers, and more atom-centred careers.
The program is delivered on the Bedford Park campus. The course structure includes core topics in chemical sciences and in materials engineering, along with topics in physical and mathematical sciences. This integrated honours training provides the opportunity for research experience in the field.
