The Bachelor of Education (Primary and Special Education) at Australian Catholic University (ACU) is a specialized degree designed for those interested in teaching primary school subjects and providing special education services.
The program combines theory and practice, allowing students to gain real-world experience through professional placements in schools and other educational settings. Coursework includes a deep study of primary school subjects like Math, English, Science, etc., and enhances the understanding of special education needs.
The program equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to teach children with a diverse range of intellectual, physical, behavioural and sensory disabilities. As part of the degree, students will also delve into topics like inclusive education, child development, mental health and lwell-being, and learning difficulties.
Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as primary school teachers and special education teachers in Australia. The course duration is normally four years of full-time study but can be accelerated to three years. Part-time study is also an option.
The program aims to foster critical thinking, creativity, adaptability, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning, while also instilling essential professional ethics and values for teachers—respect for human dignity, social justice, a sense of integrity, and a deep concern for the moral and holistic development of learners.
