The CLAT exam syllabus 2027 does not ask for prior study of law. The official UG syllabus says so. Candidates need no prior knowledge of law to attempt the Legal Reasoning questions. The UG paper has five passage-based sections. The PG paper has one objective section built on 13 law subjects.
The CLAT syllabus 2027 has five UG sections and one PG objective section.
The Consortium publishes no CLAT exam syllabus PDF for 2027. It publishes the CLAT exam syllabus as web pages instead. The CLAT 2027 menu has one Syllabus & Guide page for UG and another for PG.

A CLAT exam syllabus PDF for 2027 is not on the official site. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The Consortium lists no CLAT exam syllabus PDF, sample paper or mock test for CLAT 2027. To keep a copy, open the CLAT UG syllabus page or the CLAT PG syllabus page. Use the browser's print option to save it as a PDF.
The CLAT 2026 UG syllabus page had a section called Preparing for the UG-CLAT. It said the Consortium planned guides with sample questions, model question papers and instructional materials. The CLAT 2026 UG syllabus page is still online. The CLAT exam syllabus 2027 pages for UG and PG do not carry that section.
The Consortium hosts the CLAT 2026 UG and PG question booklets. They are official papers hosted by the Consortium that candidates can use for practice. Read how to use them on CLAT 2027 question papers.
The Governing Body of the Consortium of National Law Universities met on 18 July 2026. It resolved that CLAT 2027 will have no change in the CLAT exam syllabus. The same resolution keeps the pattern and sections of the UG and PG papers unchanged. The Consortium issued the decision in a .
The CLAT exam syllabus 2027 therefore stays as it was for CLAT 2026, the exam held on 7 December 2025. The section descriptions on the CLAT UG syllabus page match the CLAT 2026 text word for word. Only the year differs.
The press release adds one caution. Paper setters will consider the Expert Committee's suggestions on question format and quality in a feasible manner. The CLAT exam syllabus stays fixed, but the style of questions can still change.
The five UG sections are below. The Consortium offers no CLAT exam syllabus PDF, so its web pages are the reference. It explains each section on the official CLAT 2027 UG syllabus page.
📖English LanguageFiction and non-fiction passages. Tests comprehension, inference, summary and word meaning in context.📰Current Affairs including General KnowledgeNews and non-fiction passages. Tests awareness of events in India and the world, arts and culture, and history.⚖️Legal ReasoningPassages on legal matters and public policy. Tests how you find and apply rules. No prior law needed.🧩Logical ReasoningShort passages with arguments. Tests premises, conclusions, analogies and inference.🔢Quantitative TechniquesShort numerical sets in text form. Uses 10th standard mathematics. The CLAT exam syllabus has five UG subjects. They are English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. All five UG sections are passage-based or built on short sets of facts. The UG test is designed to measure comprehension and reasoning rather than prior knowledge. Prior knowledge may occasionally help in the Current Affairs section.
No, the CLAT PG syllabus is one objective section of 120 questions on the mandatory undergraduate law subjects. The paper gives extracts from primary legal materials, such as important court decisions, statutes and regulations. Questions test comprehension, awareness of legal issues, summarising and applying legal knowledge.
The 13 subjects are Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour & Industrial Law. The official CLAT 2027 PG syllabus page lists them. The CLAT PG syllabus gives no subject-wise weightage. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026.
The CLAT exam syllabus names no science subject. The only maths is 10th standard mathematics in Quantitative Techniques. The UG eligibility rule asks for a pass in 10+2 or an equivalent examination. It does not name a stream. Science, Commerce and Arts candidates prepare from the same CLAT exam syllabus.

In the CLAT exam syllabus, English Language carries 22-26 questions, or roughly 20% of the UG paper. The Consortium gives this as an approximate range, not a fixed count. Each passage has about 450 words and comes from contemporary or historically significant fiction or non-fiction writing. The standard is one that a 12th standard student may read in about 5-7 minutes.
Run one check before you start practice questions from the CLAT exam syllabus. Time yourself on a single 450-word passage. If the reading takes more than 7 minutes, work on reading speed first.
The CLAT exam syllabus tests English Language through passage-based questions on comprehension and language skills. A series of questions follows each passage and asks you to:
Practise by answering from the passage text, not from memory.
The CLAT 2026 booklet that starts with English Language had five English passages. The booklet names five sources:
These sources match the CLAT exam syllabus line on contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction.
The CLAT current affairs syllabus carries 28-32 questions, or roughly 25% of the UG paper. Passages run up to 450 words and come from news, journalistic sources and other non-fiction writing. Questions can test legal information from the passage, but they need no law beyond what the passage gives. The Consortium adds that prior knowledge may occasionally help in the Current Affairs including General Knowledge section.
The CLAT current affairs syllabus covers four areas:
The passage-based questions test your awareness of these areas. Read each passage fully before you look at the options.
Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The CLAT current affairs syllabus lists four topic areas but names no start month for the news. The Current Affairs section of the CLAT 2026 booklet that starts with English Language has two dated newspaper extracts. They are The Hindu of 29 July 2025 and The Times of India of 21 September 2025. The exam was on 7 December 2025, so the newer article was about 11 weeks old. That is one booklet and not a rule. The CLAT exam syllabus sets no window. Cover the news of the months before 6 December 2026 in your reading.
Legal Reasoning shares the largest weightage in the CLAT exam syllabus. It carries 28-32 questions, or roughly 25% of the UG paper. The CLAT legal reasoning syllabus uses passages of around 450 words. They describe fact situations involving legal matters, public policy questions or moral philosophical enquiries.
No, candidates need no prior study of law. The CLAT legal reasoning syllabus says you will not require any prior knowledge of law to attempt the questions. The Consortium adds that general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues helps you apply principles to facts.
The CLAT legal reasoning syllabus tests three skills through passage-based questions:
The CLAT 2026 Legal Reasoning section had five passages. Their topics were One Nation policies, the framing of the Preamble and the appointment of ministers. The other two were a Governor's assent to state bills and the Supreme Court's 2023 judgment on same-sex marriage. These are constitutional and public policy subjects. They match the syllabus line on public policy questions.
Logical Reasoning carries 22-26 questions, or roughly 20% of the UG paper. The section is passage-based. Each passage is short, at about 450 words, and one or more questions follow it.
The Logical Reasoning section of the CLAT exam syllabus tests how well you handle arguments. The CLAT syllabus 2027 asks you to:
The CLAT 2026 booklet that starts with English Language had four Logical Reasoning sets. They were a word-transformation puzzle, a museum-theft puzzle, a family-relation symbol code and a team-scheduling puzzle with rules. The syllabus text speaks of arguments and premises. This booklet also carried puzzle-type sets, so practise both kinds.
Quantitative Techniques is the smallest section of the CLAT exam syllabus. It carries 10-14 questions, or roughly 10% of the UG paper. The section gives short sets of facts or numerical information in text form. Questions ask you to derive information from the set and apply mathematical operations to it. The operations are at 10th standard level.
Yes, CLAT has maths, and the official level is 10th standard. The CLAT exam syllabus names four areas: ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.
A CLAT 2026 set described a state health survey of 1,80,000 adults. One question asked for the ratio of insured adults, urban to rural. The working needs only percentages and a ratio:
Another set gave quarterly electricity generation of 5,000, 5,500, 5,500 and 6,000 GWh. The annual total is 22,000 GWh. Both workings are ours, made from the figures printed in the booklet. They show the level the CLAT exam syllabus sets for maths.
The CLAT legal reasoning syllabus and the CLAT current affairs syllabus together carry about half of the UG paper. Plan your study days around that split in the CLAT exam syllabus. The official CLAT 2027 UG question paper format page titles the table "Subject Areas with weightage". It marks the numbers as an approximate number of questions.

Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs have 28-32 questions each. English Language and Logical Reasoning have 22-26 each, and Quantitative Techniques has 10-14. The syllabus for CLAT exam candidates gives these as approximate ranges.
| Section | Approximate questions | Topics to be sure of |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | 22-26 (about 20%) | Main point, inference, summary, word meaning in context |
| Current Affairs including General Knowledge | 28-32 (about 25%) | India and world events, arts and culture, international affairs, history |
| Legal Reasoning | 28-32 (about 25%) | Finding rules, applying them to facts, effect of a changed rule |
| Logical Reasoning | 22-26 (about 20%) | Arguments, premises, strengthening and weakening, analogies |
| Quantitative Techniques | 10-14 (about 10%) | Ratios, basic algebra, mensuration, statistical estimation |
The lower ends of the five ranges add up to 110 and the upper ends to 130. The paper has 120 questions in total.
The CLAT exam syllabus 2027 asks for no prior study of law and no maths above 10th standard. It names no science subject.
The CLAT 2027 UG paper tests the CLAT exam syllabus 2027 through 120 multiple-choice questions of one mark each. The paper lasts 2 hours. The test is in offline mode on Sunday, 6 December 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Eligible PwD candidates get time until 4:40 pm. The Consortium marks this timing as subject to revision in case of necessity.

Section-wise details and the CLAT 2026 comparison are on CLAT 2027 exam pattern.
CLAT gives 1 mark for each correct answer and deducts 0.25 mark for each wrong answer. Four wrong answers cancel one correct answer. A candidate with 100 correct and 20 wrong answers scores 100 minus 5, which is 95 marks. Unanswered questions carry no deduction. The CLAT 2026 UG booklet printed this rule, and the Expert Committee Report 2026 describes it for the UG test. The CLAT 2027 pages do not restate it.
No, the 2 hours cover the whole paper. The official CLAT 2027 FAQ says there is no specific time frame for the Current Affairs Including General Knowledge section. The Consortium publishes no separate time limit for any other section of the CLAT exam syllabus.
The CLAT 2026 UG paper, held on 7 December 2025, kept every section inside its official range. The Consortium published the same ranges for the CLAT syllabus 2027.
The CLAT 2026 UG paper followed the CLAT exam syllabus with 120 questions. English Language had 24, Current Affairs 28, Legal Reasoning 30, Logical Reasoning 26 and Quantitative Techniques 12. Current Affairs sat at the lower end of its range and Logical Reasoning at the upper end. The other three sat inside their ranges.
The counts come from the question numbers in the contents table of the . The CLAT 2027 counts will be known only after the exam on 6 December 2026.
The CLAT exam syllabus lists the sections in one order, but the booklet order is not fixed. The notification prints four CLAT 2026 UG booklet versions. The first version starts with English Language and the second with Current Affairs. The third starts with Logical Reasoning and the fourth with Quantitative Techniques. The other sections follow in a different order in each version.
The booklet contents table calls the Quantitative Techniques section Quantitative Aptitude. The CLAT 2027 pattern pages call it Quantitative Techniques. Plan the time for each section before the test, and do not count on English coming first.
The printed passage lengths in the CLAT 2026 booklet that starts with English Language run from 150 to 416 words. That booklet had 21 passages, and none reaches the 450-word figure in the CLAT exam syllabus.
| Section | Passages | Printed length (words) |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | 5 | 203-356 |
| Current Affairs | 5 | 174-246 |
| Legal Reasoning | 5 | 276-416 |
| Logical Reasoning | 4 | 150-269 |
| Quantitative Techniques | 2 | 250-255 |
The CLAT syllabus follows a comprehension-based format. The Expert Committee Report 2026 records that it began in the 2019-2020 examination cycle. As per third-party media sources, the Consortium notified on 15 June 2023 that CLAT 2024 would have 120 UG questions instead of 150, with the five sections and the 2-hour duration unchanged. The official CLAT 2026 booklet and the CLAT 2027 pages show the same 120-question UG paper.
Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The Expert Committee Report 2026 recommends changes to the CLAT syllabus for later cycles. It proposes a three-section UG test. The sections would be Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude, Language and Comprehension, and Quantitative Techniques. It also proposes no more than 10-15 questions per section and no separate Current Affairs and General Knowledge section. These are recommendations. The Governing Body said it will engage with them in preparation for CLAT 2028, and none applies to CLAT 2027. The is on the Consortium website.
CLAT 2027 is on 6 December 2026, which leaves 54 days from 13 October 2026. No CLAT exam syllabus PDF exists. Use the web pages and the syllabus for CLAT exam preparation as your checklist. Check CLAT 2027 exam dates for any change to this schedule.
The application form closes on 31 October 2026 at 11:59 pm. No extension is announced as of 13 October 2026. Complete the form on CLAT 2027 registration before you plan your study hours.
Split the 54 days into four phases that follow the CLAT exam syllabus 2027 and the official pattern. Give more study days to the two largest sections, because together they carry about half of the paper.

The syllabus for CLAT exam candidates sets no time limit for any section, so you split the 2 hours yourself. The 2 hours for 120 questions give an average of 1 minute per question. A 450-word English passage takes 5-7 minutes to read by the Consortium's standard. Fix your time per section in practice papers before 6 December 2026.
The CLAT exam syllabus 2027 pages for UG and PG name no book or study material. The CLAT 2026 UG syllabus page advised candidates to read quality newspapers and periodicals regularly. It also advised practice with materials such as 10th standard mathematics textbooks to improve speed in Quantitative Techniques. The CLAT 2027 pages do not repeat this advice. Decide what to study from the syllabus for CLAT exam preparation, not from a book list. Use the Consortium-hosted CLAT 2026 booklets for passage practice. Tick off each topic of the CLAT syllabus 2027 after one full practice paper. Revisit every topic you could not answer.
The UG paper in the CLAT exam syllabus 2027 has 120 multiple-choice questions and no essay. The PG pages describe one objective section of 120 questions and display no descriptive section.
The Consortium names no Class 11 or Class 12 textbook. English passages follow a 12th standard reading level, and the maths section uses 10th standard mathematics. The other sections test skills on the passage, not a school syllabus.
