The CLAT application fee must be paid online by 11:59 pm on 31 October 2026. The Consortium of NLUs refunds none of it. General and OBC candidates pay ₹4,000 as the CLAT application fee. SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates pay ₹3,500. From 13 October 2026, 18 days remain, and the Consortium has announced no extension.
The CLAT application fee is only the first of three costs. In CLAT 2026, the Consortium of NLUs charged a CLAT counselling fee and a seat confirmation fee after the result. Each NLU then charges its own tuition and hostel fee every year. This page sets out the CLAT exam fee structure in three parts so that you can plan for each cost.
CLAT application fee deadline: 11:59 pm on 31 October 2026
22 July 2026The Consortium announced the registration window in its press release of 22 July 2026. Both pages say the form must be complete, paid and finally submitted by 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026. They add that incomplete forms are not considered.
In CLAT 2026, the Consortium of NLUs charged three fees to candidates. They were the CLAT application fee, the Counselling Registration Fee and the Confirmation Fee. Each NLU charges its own tuition and hostel fee after admission.
The CLAT application fee for 2027 has two tiers, ₹4,000 and ₹3,500. The Consortium accepts the CLAT application fee online only. CLAT exam fees 2027 are the same for UG and PG candidates. Only the PG instructions add NRI to the ₹4,000 tier.

| Category | UG fee | PG fee |
|---|---|---|
| General and OBC | ₹4,000 | ₹4,000 |
| NRI | Not listed on the UG page | ₹4,000 |
| SC, ST, BPL and PwD | ₹3,500 | ₹3,500 |
The table shows the category-wise registration fee as printed on the official UG instructions and PG instructions. It is the CLAT registration fee category-wise in one place. The CLAT application fee structure has two tiers, and neither tier is an application fee exemption. The table has no EWS row. The CLAT form fees for EWS candidates are not published as a separate tier. The CLAT form fees for General candidates and the CLAT form fees for OBC candidates are both ₹4,000.
The General, OBC, SC and ST category fee follows the category you select in the form. The CLAT 2027 registration page covers the form steps, documents and last date.
The CLAT application fee for 2027 is ₹4,000 for General and OBC candidates. It is ₹3,500 for SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates. These CLAT 2027 application fee amounts apply to the form you submit by 31 October 2026. They are the category-wise registration fee on both the UG and PG instruction pages.
The CLAT exam fee structure has two application tiers, one optional add-on and a bank charge. The CLAT application fee structure is ₹4,000 or ₹3,500. The add-on is ₹500 for previous years' question papers. The bank charge depends on the payment mode, and the gateway page shows it. The Consortium lists no other charge inside the CLAT application fee. This CLAT exam fee structure is the same for UG and PG.
CLAT exam fees 2027 for a General candidate are ₹4,000 as the CLAT application fee. With the previous papers add-on, they are ₹4,500. For an SC candidate, CLAT exam fees 2027 are ₹3,500, or ₹4,000 with the add-on. The bank charge is extra in both cases. CLAT exam fees do not include counselling or NLU fees.
The CLAT 2027 application fee did not change from CLAT 2026. CLAT 2026 is the exam held on 7 December 2025. The Consortium charged the same ₹4,000 and ₹3,500 in that cycle. The CLAT registration fee category-wise is therefore unchanged. The table compares the category-wise registration fee and the CLAT exam fee structure of both cycles.
| Category | CLAT 2026 | CLAT 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| UG General and OBC | ₹4,000 | ₹4,000 |
| UG SC, ST, BPL and PwD | ₹3,500 | ₹3,500 |
| PG General, OBC and NRI | ₹4,000 | ₹4,000 |
| PG SC, ST, BPL and PwD | ₹3,500 | ₹3,500 |
| Previous years' papers add-on | ₹500 | ₹500 |
No, the CLAT application fee did not increase for CLAT 2027. Every row in the table shows the same amount in both cycles. The General, OBC, SC and ST category fee and the CLAT SC ST fee stayed unchanged. The CLAT form fees for General candidates and the CLAT form fees for OBC candidates stayed at ₹4,000. A family can plan CLAT exam fees 2027 from the CLAT 2026 figures. The CLAT application fee structure is the same in both cycles.
The CLAT 2027 objection fee is not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The Consortium has published no answer key schedule for CLAT 2027. CLAT exam fees 2027 therefore list no objection fee yet. The notice below shows how the fee worked in the CLAT 2026 cycle.
CLAT 2026 objection fee was ₹500 for each objection
10 December 2025Candidates paid ₹500 for each objection to the CLAT 2026 provisional answer key. The Consortium refunded the fee to the same account if the objection was valid and sustained. This is separate from the CLAT application fee. It is the CLAT 2026 rule and not a CLAT 2027 rule.
Read the CLAT 2026 objection notificationGeneral and OBC candidates pay ₹4,000 as the CLAT application fee for both UG and PG. That is the CLAT registration fee category-wise for the top tier. PG NRI candidates pay the same ₹4,000 CLAT application fee. The UG instruction page names no fee group for NRI candidates.
The form asks for one All India Category from four options: General, Other Backward Class, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe. The General, OBC, SC and ST category fee therefore follows the option you select. Separate Yes or No questions cover the EWS category and the non-creamy layer. The official lines give no separate CLAT form fees for EWS candidates. Neither group gets an application fee exemption.
The CLAT form fees for General candidates are ₹4,000 for UG and ₹4,000 for PG. The CLAT form fees for General candidates were the same in CLAT 2026. Add ₹500 only if you want the previous years' papers. The bank charge is extra, as for every category.
The CLAT form fees for OBC candidates are ₹4,000 for UG and PG. The CLAT form fees for OBC candidates were also ₹4,000 in CLAT 2026. The form also asks whether you belong to the non-creamy layer. The fee lines name no separate amount for that answer.
The official fee lines name no amount for EWS candidates. The CLAT form fees for EWS candidates are therefore not published as a separate tier. The form treats EWS as a Yes or No question ("Do you qualify under the EWS Category?"). It is not a fifth category beside General, OBC, SC and ST. Select the category printed on the form. The CLAT form fees for EWS candidates are not listed. Read the amount in the payment box before you confirm.
The PG instructions put NRI candidates in the ₹4,000 tier of the CLAT application fee. That is the category-wise registration fee for NRI at PG level. The UG instructions name no NRI amount. The form asks Yes or No whether you qualify under the NRI category. A UG candidate in that category can ask the CLAT help desk before paying.
The Consortium does not allot NRI or NRI-sponsored seats. These candidates approach the NLU directly, as the UG and PG instructions say. NRI fees are therefore set by each NLU and not by the CLAT application fee. For example, the HNLU brochure prints a tuition fee of US $5000 plus ₹35,000 for NRI candidates.
The CLAT application fee has no separate tier for women in the official fee lines. The form lists gender as a profile field with three options: Male, Female and Transgender Person. Women candidates pay the General, OBC, SC and ST category fee that matches their category. An OBC woman pays the CLAT form fees for OBC candidates. The CLAT form fees for EWS candidates and for women also have no separate tier. Neither group gets an application fee exemption.
SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates pay ₹3,500 as the CLAT application fee. That is ₹500 less than the CLAT form fees for General candidates. It is also ₹500 less than the CLAT form fees for OBC candidates. The CLAT SC ST fee is the same for UG and PG. This CLAT registration fee category-wise is the lower tier. The tabs show what each programme page prints.
The CLAT SC ST fee is the CLAT application fee of ₹3,500 for both UG and PG. The CLAT 2026 cycle charged the same amount. SC and ST candidates upload a category certificate with the form. The NLU asks for the original at admission.
The official instructions list a reduced fee for SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates and no full application fee exemption. A search of the UG and PG instructions, the FAQs and the form template found no waiver wording. The instructions publish no CLAT application fee exemption. Plan to pay the CLAT SC ST fee of ₹3,500 and keep the certificate ready.
A BPL candidate pays ₹3,500 as the CLAT application fee. That is the category-wise registration fee for BPL. The form asks whether you qualify under the BPL category. If you select Yes, you upload a certificate from the competent authority as a PDF under 1.5 MB. The BPL field cannot be changed after you submit and pay.
A PwD candidate pays ₹3,500 as the CLAT application fee, on the UG page and on the PG instructions. The form's PwD question has two options: "No (Less than 40%)" and "Yes (not less than 40% percentage disability)". The fee lines do not explain how the ₹3,500 tier applies to each option. Read the amount in the payment box before you confirm.
The CLAT application fee ends with the form. The CLAT counselling fee in the 2026 cycle was ₹30,000 for General candidates. It was ₹20,000 for ST, SC, OBC, BC, EWS and PwD candidates. The Consortium called it the Counselling Registration Fee. The CLAT 2027 amount is not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The official FAQ places CLAT 2027 counselling in "December 2026/January, 2027". The seat acceptance fee CLAT candidates pay after that is the Confirmation Fee.
The timeline shows when each fee fell due in the CLAT 2026 cycle. It is last cycle's pattern and not a CLAT 2027 schedule. The CLAT counselling process fee has two parts, the Registration Fee and the seat confirmation fee. The CLAT counselling page explains the rounds in full.

The CLAT counselling fee is the Counselling Registration Fee. It was ₹30,000 for General candidates and ₹20,000 for the other listed categories in 2026. Candidates paid the CLAT counselling fee online after the Consortium invited them. The call it refundable under fixed rules.
The seat acceptance fee CLAT candidates pay is called the Confirmation Fee in the official instructions. Candidates pay it to Freeze or Float a seat. The CLAT 2026 instructions do not state its amount. The CLAT 2027 amount is also not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The NLU adjusts the seat confirmation fee against its own university fee. The HNLU brochure for CLAT 2027 repeats this rule.
No, the seat confirmation fee is non-refundable. The seat acceptance fee CLAT candidates pay is forfeited in three cases. These are Exit after Float or Freeze, a missed university fee date and an NLU finding of ineligibility. A candidate who froze a seat and withdrew after 30 May 2026 also lost it. The fee refund policy for the Counselling Registration Fee is different. The table shows each case of the CLAT counselling process fee.
| Situation in CLAT 2026 | Registration Fee outcome |
|---|---|
| No seat at the end of round 5 | Full refund |
| Exit without choosing Freeze or Float | Full refund |
| Exit after Float or Freeze, before 1:00 PM on 8 May 2026 | Full refund |
| Exit after Float or Freeze, after 1:00 PM on 8 May 2026 | ₹5,000 deducted |
| NLU finds you ineligible on verification | ₹5,000 deducted |
| Balance university fee not paid by the due date | ₹5,000 deducted |
| First seat in round 5, then Exit or no fee payment | Full refund |
| Freeze, admission, then withdrawal after 30 May 2026 | ₹5,000 deducted |
A General candidate who paid ₹30,000 and exits after 1:00 PM on 8 May 2026 gets ₹25,000 back. A candidate who paid ₹20,000 gets ₹15,000 back. The refund goes to the account that paid. The fee refund policy did not allow another account.
The CLAT counselling process fee depends on the option you choose in each round. Freeze and Float both need the seat acceptance fee CLAT calls the Confirmation Fee. Exit needs no new payment. It costs you the Confirmation Fee only if you had already paid it for Float or Freeze.
| Option | What you pay | What you lose |
|---|---|---|
| Freeze | Confirmation Fee, then the balance university fee by 24 April or 30 May 2026 | ₹5,000 and the Confirmation Fee, if you withdraw after 30 May 2026 |
| Float (rounds 1 to 4) | Confirmation Fee, no university fee yet | The Confirmation Fee if you later Exit |
| Exit | Nothing more | If you had opted for Float or Freeze: the Confirmation Fee, and ₹5,000 of the Registration Fee after 1:00 PM on 8 May 2026 |
The date of the CLAT 2027 counselling fee is not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The Consortium has published no CLAT 2027 counselling calendar. The CLAT cutoff page shows the closing ranks that help you choose NLUs to list. Keep the CLAT counselling fee of ₹30,000 or ₹20,000 ready, using the CLAT 2026 amount as a guide. Unlike the CLAT application fee, it is adjusted against the NLU fee. The CLAT counselling process fee follows the result and not the application.
The CLAT application fee is one of the Consortium of NLUs charges. Each NLU prints its own fee table in its CLAT 2027 brochure, and the figures differ widely. NLU admission fee details are not set by the Consortium. CLAT course fees in NLUs are set by each NLU. Twelve NLUs in the table print a UG tuition line, apart from IIULER. Their tuition runs from ₹1.25 lakh a year at RMLNLU to ₹2 lakh a year at NLU Jodhpur. NLUs outside the table can print lower tuition, such as ₹88,000 at NLUJA for 2026-27. The tabs show UG and one-year LL.M. fees with each brochure's own year label.
| NLU | Tuition fee a year | Total fee as printed and basis |
|---|---|---|
| NLSIU | Not printed separately | ₹5,38,000 General and ₹5,32,000 SC/ST, AY 2027-28, with refundable deposits |
| NALSAR | ₹1,70,000 | No total printed. User charges ₹67,000 a year, mess about ₹40,000 a year |
| WBNUJS | ₹1,60,000 | ₹2,81,900, table prints 2026-27. Hostel and mess ₹70,000 are separate |
| GNLU | ₹1,32,000 | ₹2,72,000 first year with mess, AY 2027-28 |
| NLU Jodhpur | ₹2,00,000 (₹1,00,000 a semester) | ₹1,81,500 in semester I and ₹1,54,500 in semester II, batch 2027 |
| NLIU | ₹1,61,000 | No total printed. Tentative schedule 2027-28 |
| HNLU | ₹1,40,000 | ₹2,35,000 a year, 2027-28, Indian nationals, with hostel and caution money. Mess is extra |
| RMLNLU | ₹1,25,000 | ₹2,05,000. Mess of ₹4,000 to ₹4,500 a month is extra |
| NLUO | ₹1,45,000 | ₹2,98,000 a year with hostel. Mess and deposits are extra |
| NUSRL | ₹1,65,000 | ₹3,54,000 with hostel and mess, batch from 2027 |
| RGNUL | ₹1,55,000 | ₹2,97,500 a year, heading prints CLAT-2026. Mess advance ₹40,000 is extra |
| TNNLU | ₹1,36,500 | ₹1,50,360, or ₹2,21,130 with user charges, 2027-2028 |
| HPNLU | ₹1,80,940 | ₹3,29,115 in year I with hostel, 2027-28 |
| IIULER | ₹8,01,000 adjusted, year I | ₹10,97,000 in year I with hostel, for AIR 30,001 onwards |
Tuition fees across NLUs in the table run from ₹1.25 lakh to ₹2 lakh a year for UG. The CLAT course fees in NLUs are printed per programme. Read the B.A. LL.B. row and not the LL.M. row. The prints only a total and no separate tuition line. The NLU admission fee details for each college are in its own brochure.
The LL.M. is a one-year programme, and NLSIU prints the highest LL.M. total, ₹5,99,000 for General candidates. TNNLU prints the lowest total open to all candidates, ₹1,01,955 before user charges. NLU Meghalaya prints ₹70,000 for its domicile students, with the hostel extra. Tuition fees across NLUs for the LL.M. are lower at several NLUs. Examples are ₹45,000 at RMLNLU and ₹65,000 at NALSAR. The CLAT course fees in NLUs for the LL.M. differ from the UG figures at the same NLU. Compare totals only where the hostel and mess basis match.
The total NLU fee is not part of the CLAT application fee. It includes different items in each brochure. Most totals add an admission fee, hostel rent and refundable deposits. Some add mess charges, and others list mess separately. NLU admission fee details also differ. For example, the admission fee is ₹2,000 at GNLU and ₹20,000 at NLU Meghalaya. Compare two NLUs only when the third column of the table shows the same basis. The CLAT course fees in NLUs are not comparable otherwise.
Yes, tuition fees across NLUs rise every year at several universities. NALSAR and NLIU add ₹5,000 to tuition each year, and RPNLUP adds 5%. MNLU Nagpur raises tuition by 10% a year. Its tuition rises from ₹1,85,000 in year I to ₹2,70,859 in year V for the 2026-31 batch. HPNLU prints a different total for each year, such as ₹3,16,250 in year II and ₹3,66,100 in year V. Plan for the rising fee over five years. Tuition fees across NLUs in year I are only the start.
IIULER prints the highest UG fee among the CLAT course fees in NLUs. It is ₹10,97,000 in year I and ₹48,53,000 for five years, for Indian students with AIR 30,001 onwards. The brochure lowers the tuition for candidates who score 60% or more in CLAT. For AIR 1 to 5,000, the year I total is ₹7,24,122 and the five-year total is ₹29,88,610. Among the other NLUs in the UG table, NLSIU prints the highest total at ₹5,38,000.
The Consortium accepts the CLAT application fee online only, so there is no offline route. The fee refund policy allows no refund, and the CLAT application fee structure has no adjustment. The instruction pages name no specific payment mode. You choose the mode of payment, and the payment gateway page then shows the actual bank transaction charge.
No refund or adjustment of the CLAT application fee
The fee refund policy of the Consortium says the CLAT application fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable. A fee paid on an earlier form is not refunded if you file a second form. Only the last form counts.
| Question | What the Consortium publishes |
|---|---|
| Payment mode | Online only |
| Named modes | None on the instruction pages |
| Bank transaction charge | Paid by the candidate and shown on the gateway page after you pick a mode |
| Refund | Non-refundable and non-adjustable |
| Several forms | Only the last form counts, and the earlier CLAT application fee is not refunded |
| Change of programme or category | Not allowed after you submit and pay |
No, the Consortium says the CLAT application fee can be paid online only. The instruction pages describe no offline route for UG or PG. If a payment problem stops you, write to the CLAT help desk and choose the query type "Payment related".
The instruction pages name no payment mode for the CLAT application fee. The payment gateway page shows the actual bank charge once you choose a payment mode. Choose the payment mode first, read the charge, and then pay.
No, the CLAT application fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable. The fee refund policy has no exception for a changed mind, a wrong category or a missed exam. Check the programme, category and BPL field before you pay. You cannot change them afterwards.
The Consortium considers only your last online form if you fill more than one. The CLAT application fee on the earlier form is not refunded. No application fee exemption applies to a duplicate form. Edit your existing form while registration is open and do not start a new one.
You pay the CLAT 2027 application fee after you complete the form. The deadline is 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026. The steps below follow the UG and PG instructions and the form on the official portal. They cover only the payment, because the form steps sit on the registration page. The amount shown follows the CLAT registration fee category-wise.
You pay the CLAT 2027 application fee in seven steps, after the five form tabs are complete.
Step 1
Complete the form
Fill the five tabs and upload your photograph, signature and any certificate. Choose three test centres. Do this before you pay the CLAT application fee.
Step 2

Step 3
Open the payment box
The Application Payment box shows the CLAT 2027 application fee for your category.
Step 4
Answer the previous papers question
Select Yes or No for "Do you want Previous Year Question Papers?". Yes adds ₹500 to the CLAT application fee, and the Total Amount updates.
Step 5
Confirm payment
Click Confirm Payment to move to the payment gateway page.
Step 6
Pick a payment mode
After you choose a mode of payment, the gateway page shows the actual bank transaction charge.
Step 7
Pay the CLAT application fee before the deadline
Finish the payment by 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026. After you pay, the programme, category and BPL field cannot be changed.
Check four fields before you pay the CLAT application fee. These are the programme (UG or PG), the category, the BPL field and your name. You cannot change the first three after payment. The Consortium may disqualify a candidature if the name differs from the certificates. Compare the payment box amount with the General, OBC, SC and ST category fee table on this page. Ask the help desk if it differs.
You have until 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026 to pay the CLAT application fee. That is 18 days from 13 October 2026. The Consortium has announced no extension. The CLAT 2027 exam dates page lists later dates once the Consortium announces them.
Six costs come on top of the CLAT application fee in the CLAT admission process. Brochures print most of them. The CLAT application fee structure covers none of them. The cards list each cost with its amount where the Consortium or an NLU has published it.

Due on 30 May 2026 for rounds 4 and 5 in CLAT 2026.BrochuresHostel, mess and depositsPrinted by each NLU. Some deposits are refundable, and some NLUs list mess charges separately. The main other costs follow the CLAT application fee. These are the add-on, the bank charge, the CLAT counselling process fee and the NLU fee with hostel and mess. The Consortium of NLUs charges the add-on, and it charged the counselling fee in CLAT 2026. The payment gateway shows the bank charge. The NLU charges the fee with hostel and mess. NLU admission fee details can also list user charges and refundable deposits. The Consortium has published no travel or coaching figure, so this page does not estimate one.
The prints the NLU admission fee details for AY 2027-28. It shows a first-year total of ₹2,72,000 for UG, with mess charges. The table adds the Consortium of NLUs charges for a General candidate on the CLAT 2026 pattern. The CLAT counselling fee and the seat acceptance fee CLAT candidates pay are adjusted against the NLU fee. They are not extra.
| Payment | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| CLAT application fee | ₹4,000 | General, CLAT 2027 |
| Previous papers add-on | ₹500 | Optional |
| GNLU first-year fee | ₹2,72,000 | AY 2027-28, with mess, includes ₹17,000 one-time fees |
| CLAT counselling fee | Adjusted | ₹30,000 Registration Fee in CLAT 2026, adjusted against the GNLU fee |
A General candidate therefore pays ₹4,000 as the CLAT application fee. The first-year cost at GNLU is ₹2,72,000 in total, and the counselling payments are counted inside it. That is ₹2,76,000 before the optional ₹500 and the bank charge. The sum is a worked example of the CLAT exam fee structure through admission. GNLU levies electricity charges separately, based on actual use. If the candidate exits, the refund rules in the counselling section apply.
The CLAT application fee is ₹4,000 or ₹3,500. The CLAT exam fee structure publishes no breakdown of what it covers. The larger costs sit later in the process. The CLAT counselling fee was ₹30,000 or ₹20,000 in CLAT 2026, and the NLU fee runs into lakhs a year. The CLAT application fee does not include the previous papers or the bank charge.
No, the ₹500 previous papers add-on is separate from the CLAT application fee. The payment box asks Yes or No, and you can answer No. The CLAT previous year question papers page lists the papers the Consortium hosts.
These questions are not answered in the sections above.
Answers to what readers ask most often.
The UG and PG instructions mention no late fee on the CLAT application fee. The form must be finally submitted and paid by 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026. Incomplete forms are not considered.
No, the counselling fee is separate from the CLAT application fee and falls due after the result. In the CLAT 2026 cycle, the Consortium invited eligible candidates. It showed the Make Payment button only to those selected for counselling.
Write to clat@consortiumofnlus.ac.in or call 08047162020 between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM on working days. The help desk form has the query types Payment related and Fee related.
Some do, through state schemes, so tuition fees across NLUs can fall for SC and ST students. The TNNLU brochure says SC and ST students of Tamil Nadu get a tuition concession from the state government. The NLIU brochure says SC, ST and OBC students of Madhya Pradesh can get reimbursement of specific fees. The NUALS brochure says SC, ST and OEC students of Kerala get educational concessions.
