The CLAT exam is the Common Law Admission Test, which the Consortium of National Law Universities holds for admission to the five-year integrated LL.B. and the LL.M. programmes at participating universities. CLAT 2027 takes place on Sunday, 6 December 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Registration closes at 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026, and the form and the CLAT exam fees must both be complete by then. The admit card, answer key, result and counselling dates are not announced.
CLAT is the Common Law Admission Test. The test is the entrance exam for the five-year integrated LL.B. and the LL.M. at participating National Law Universities. The CLAT exam 2027 covers all admissions that begin in academic year 2027-28. There are two papers. CLAT UG is for the five-year integrated LL.B., and CLAT PG is for the LL.M.
Candidates apply and read notices on the official CLAT exam 2027 website. The figures below show how large the exam was in its last cycle.

The CLAT exam full form is Common Law Admission Test. The Consortium of NLUs uses the name Common Law Admission Test for both papers. A candidate who sits CLAT UG competes for five-year integrated LL.B. seats. A candidate who sits CLAT PG competes for LL.M. seats. The CLAT exam full form is the same for both.
The Consortium of National Law Universities conducts the CLAT exam 2027. Its Executive Committee and Governing Body fixed the CLAT 2027 date at meetings on 18 July 2026. Twenty-six National Law Universities are members of the Consortium. The test decides admission to these universities, and the Consortium publishes the CLAT exam details on its website. National Law University Delhi stays outside the Consortium and admits through its own test, AILET.
Yes, the CLAT exam 2027 is the test on 6 December 2026, for admission in academic year 2027-28. CLAT 2026 was the exam held on 7 December 2025. Every figure from that earlier exam carries the label CLAT 2026 in the sections below. Use only the CLAT exam details labelled 2027 for your own planning.
No, the Consortium has announced only one CLAT 2027 sitting, on 6 December 2026. UG and PG candidates take their papers on that day. A candidate who submits more than one application form is considered on the last form only. The fee of the earlier form is not refunded.
CLAT suits a student who wants a seat in a National Law University and meets the CLAT eligibility rule. UG needs 45% in Class 12, and PG needs 50% in LL.B. SC, ST and PwD candidates need 5 percentage points less in both. The test checks reading, reasoning, current affairs and basic maths. The Legal Reasoning section needs no prior knowledge of law. Seats go by rank, so a candidate also needs a realistic list of NLUs. A candidate who cannot show a pass certificate at admission loses the right to be considered. Serious CLAT exam preparation therefore starts with the eligibility check.
The Consortium of NLUs has announced three dates for the CLAT exam 2027. Registration opened on 3 August 2026, it closes on 31 October 2026, and the test is on 6 December 2026. The fixes all three. No admit card, answer key or result date is announced.

The CLAT 2026 cycle shows how the open dates ran after the exam. The Consortium released the CLAT 2026 provisional answer key three days after the exam, on 10 December 2025. The final CLAT exam answer key and the result came on 16 December 2025. Counselling registration opened on 17 December 2025. These are CLAT 2026 dates. They are not a forecast for 2027.
The CLAT exam admit card is downloaded from the CLAT account. The CLAT exam date 2027 schedule page lists each date with its source as the Consortium announces it.
The CLAT exam date for 2027 is Sunday, 6 December 2026. UG and PG papers are on the same day, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Eligible PwD candidates get 40 extra minutes and write until 4:40 pm. The official instructions add that the schedule is subject to revision in case of necessity. The test is offline.
The last date to apply for CLAT 2027 is 31 October 2026, 11:59 PM. The Consortium has announced no extension for CLAT 2027 as of 13 October 2026. Plan to submit the form well before the deadline.
No, AILET 2027 is on Sunday, 13 December 2026, one week after the CLAT exam date. Both tests run from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. NLU Delhi, which conducts AILET, set 10 November 2026 as the last date to apply for most candidates. A student who wants both NLU Delhi and a Consortium NLU can therefore sit both tests.

No, the Governing Body resolved that the syllabus and sections of both papers will not change for the 2027 exam. The resolution was adopted on 18 July 2026 and published on 21 July 2026. Paper setters will still consider the Expert Committee's suggestions on question format and quality, where feasible. The CLAT exam pattern keeps the same sections.
No change to the 2027 syllabus and pattern
21 July 2026The Governing Body kept the syllabus and the sections of both papers unchanged for CLAT 2027. The Expert Committee's wider recommendations are being considered in preparation for CLAT 2028.
Read the press releaseThe Consortium publishes no difficulty rating, so no official answer exists. The official record does show how much the target changes with the NLU. In CLAT 2026 list 5, the CLAT cutoff for NLSIU was a General closing rank of 120. At IIULER Goa, the B.A. LL.B. closing rank was 2,671. A student aiming at NLSIU faces a much harder rank target than a student aiming at IIULER Goa. The paper is the same for both.

CLAT eligibility for UG starts with a Class 12 pass or an equivalent exam. The minimum is 45% marks, and SC, ST and PwD candidates need 40%. There is no upper age limit. The Consortium's UG eligibility page states these rules.
| Rule | UG | PG |
|---|---|---|
| Qualification | 10+2 or equivalent | LL.B. or equivalent |
| Minimum marks | 45% | 50% |
| Minimum marks for SC, ST and PwD | 40% | 45% |
| Upper age limit | None | None |
| Final-year candidates | Appearing in March or April 2027 | Appearing in 2027 |
The CLAT PG rules sit on the PG eligibility page of the Consortium. Individual NLU brochures can set their own conditions. The NLSIU brochure lists 45% for PwD candidates, while the Consortium page lists 40%. Check the brochure of each NLU on your list before you apply. The CLAT exam details on the Consortium site do not replace the NLU brochures.
CLAT eligibility for UG is a 10+2 pass with 45% marks. SC, ST and PwD candidates need 40%. CLAT eligibility for PG needs an LL.B. degree with 50% marks, or 45% for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Equivalent grades are accepted for both. Indian nationals, NRIs, PIO card holders and OCI card holders can appear. Foreign nationals cannot appear and must approach the NLUs directly.
Yes, candidates appearing for Class 12 in March or April 2027 can apply. They must show proof of passing at admission, or they lose the right to be considered. In the CLAT application, a UG candidate selects Appearing/Appeared and enters May 2027 as the month and year of passing. The percentage stays blank. A PG candidate who is appearing in LL.B. enters June 2027 instead.
No, there is no upper age limit for UG or PG candidates in 2027.
Domicile does not decide who can appear. It matters for state-level reservation at an NLU. Select a state in the Reservation tab only if you are a domicile of that state and hold the certificate. Two NLUs changed their reservation categories on 5 September 2026. The Consortium asks candidates who applied under West Bengal OBC-A or OBC-B at WBNUJS to update their reservation by 31 October 2026. Candidates who applied under the Meghalaya domicile category at NLU Meghalaya are asked to review the added categories and update, where applicable, by the same date.
Yes, you can apply now. You must submit the certificate at the time of admission, or you become ineligible for the course you applied for. The certificate must be the one prescribed by the Government of India or the State Government.
Yes, the PwD policy of 7 September 2026 allows a scribe and compensatory time. Tell the Consortium in the application form and upload a valid UDID card or disability certificate. For other needs, write to the PwD Nodal Officer at least 10 working days before the exam.
The CLAT application must be filled, paid for and submitted online by 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026. CLAT exam registration has no offline option. The CLAT exam registration 2027 page covers each field of the form in detail.
The CLAT exam fees for 2027 are ₹4,000 for General and OBC candidates. SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates pay ₹3,500. At PG level, NRI candidates also pay ₹4,000. PwD candidates sit in the ₹3,500 group, not the ₹4,000 group. Previous years' CLAT exam question papers are an optional add-on at ₹500 and are not part of the fee. The candidate also pays the bank transaction charges online.
Fill the CLAT application form in the order below. Spell your name and your parents' names exactly as they appear on your certificates, mark sheets and identity proof. A change or alteration found later may disqualify the candidature. The official UG instructions page lists the same steps.

Upload a recent front-facing photograph in JPEG or PNG format on a light background. Upload your signature in JPEG or PNG format, in black or blue ink on a white background. SC, ST, OBC, PwD and BPL candidates also upload the relevant certificate. Certificates must be PDFs smaller than 1.5 MB. Photographs and signatures need no attestation. Original certificates go to the allotted university at admission, even though you upload copies with the CLAT application.
You choose three test centre cities, and all three preferences are mandatory. The Consortium of NLUs removed Vellore and Tiruvarur as test centres on 3 September 2026. Candidates who selected either city must edit their preferences before 31 October 2026. The Consortium may also change the centre list as applications come in. It will notify affected candidates.
You can edit the CLAT application form only while registration is open. Log in, click the Edit Application Form button, open the tab, change the detail and save. The Consortium does not entertain updates after the closure date.
Three fields lock after payment
After you submit and pay, you cannot change the programme (UG or PG), the category or the BPL field. Check all three, and your CLAT eligibility, before you pay.
No correction window is announced. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The official instructions say updates to the application form are not entertained after the closure date.
No, the application fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable. If you file more than one form, only the last form counts and the earlier fee is not refunded.
Write to clat@consortiumofnlus.ac.in or call 08047162020, between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm on working days. The CLAT exam helpdesk page carries the same details.
Candidates download the admit card by logging in to their CLAT account with the registered mobile number and password. The Consortium has not announced the CLAT exam admit card release date. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The Consortium says it will intimate the date on its website. The CLAT exam admit card 2027 page follows that announcement.
Log in to the CLAT account with the mobile number and password from registration. Download the CLAT exam admit card from the account once the Consortium releases it. Keep the password safe, because the same login is needed for the admit card. Check your three test centre preferences before the form closes. The Consortium will notify you if a change to the centre list affects your preferences.
The Consortium has not published CLAT 2027 test day rules such as reporting time, accepted ID and prohibited items. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The test day instructions link on the official menu does not open yet. Do not rely on the rules of an earlier cycle. Watch the CLAT account and the official website after 31 October 2026.
CLAT UG has 120 multiple-choice questions for 120 marks, and the time allowed is 2 hours. CLAT PG has the same totals. Each correct answer earns 1 mark. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. The CLAT exam pattern 2027 page explains each rule in detail.
The CLAT exam pattern 2027 is a two-hour, offline, multiple-choice test. The Consortium's UG question format page lists 120 marks, 120 questions and 0.25 negative marking. The PG paper is a single section of 120 questions. The pattern pages publish one time limit for the whole paper and no separate time for any section. The official FAQ confirms this for Current Affairs.
Four wrong answers cancel one right answer, because each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. A candidate who attempts 100 questions, gets 80 right and 20 wrong, scores 80 minus 5, which is 75 marks. Unanswered questions carry no deduction, as printed on the CLAT 2026 question booklet. Check your answers against the CLAT exam answer key with the same +1 and -0.25 marks.
The exam is 2 hours long, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Eligible PwD candidates write from 2:00 pm to 4:40 pm. The paper has 120 questions, so the average time is one minute per question, including reading. In CLAT 2026, candidates marked answers on an OMR sheet. They could keep their copy of the OMR sheet after the test.
The CLAT exam pattern for questions has five sections, and each section is built on passages or short sets. The Consortium publishes approximate question counts, not fixed ones. The CLAT 2026 paper shows where the counts landed.
| Section | 2027 approximate questions | CLAT 2026 actual |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | 22-26 (about 20%) | 24 |
| Current Affairs, including General Knowledge | 28-32 (about 25%) | 28 |
| Legal Reasoning | 28-32 (about 25%) | 30 |
| Logical Reasoning | 22-26 (about 20%) | 26 |
| Quantitative Techniques | 10-14 (about 10%) | 12 |
Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs carry the most questions, with 28 to 32 each in the 2027 pattern. English Language and Logical Reasoning follow with 22 to 26 each. Quantitative Techniques has 10 to 14. The exact split for 2027 is known only after the exam.
Three sections of CLAT UG use passages of about 450 words each. These are English Language, Legal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. Current Affairs uses passages of up to 450 words. Quantitative Techniques uses short sets of facts or numbers. The PG paper gives extracts from court decisions, statutes and regulations, followed by questions on comprehension and legal issues. The PG question format page lists the PG subjects. Answers are marked on an OMR sheet in the CLAT 2026 format.
The latest official figures show 120 questions in the CLAT 2026 UG paper, and the 2027 pattern keeps the same 120 questions in five sections.
CLAT UG has five subjects: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. The CLAT exam syllabus 2027 is the same as in CLAT 2026. The CLAT exam syllabus 2027 page breaks each subject into topics.
| Subject | What the passage or set contains | What the questions test |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | About 450 words of fiction or non-fiction | Main point, inference, summary and word meaning |
| Current Affairs, including General Knowledge | Up to 450 words from news sources | Events in India and the world, arts, culture and international affairs |
| Legal Reasoning | About 450 words on legal, policy or moral questions | Finding rules and applying them to facts |
| Logical Reasoning | Short passages of about 450 words | Arguments, premises, conclusions and patterns |
| Quantitative Techniques | Short sets of numerical information | Class 10 maths, such as ratios, algebra and mensuration |
The five subjects are English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. The official UG syllabus page describes each one. English passages are written at the level of a Class 12 reader. Quantitative Techniques uses Class 10 maths.
The Consortium has not published a CLAT exam syllabus PDF for the 2027 exam. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. It publishes the syllabus as web pages for UG and PG. The CLAT 2026 syllabus page promised sample questions and model papers. The 2027 pages carry no such section.
CLAT PG is based on the mandatory subjects of the undergraduate LL.B. programme. The PG syllabus page names Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law and Property Law. It also names Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law and Labour and Industrial Law. The Consortium publishes no subject-wise weightage for PG.
No, the CLAT exam syllabus for Legal Reasoning does not need prior law knowledge. The passages give the facts and the principles. Prior knowledge may help occasionally in Current Affairs. The Consortium says the test checks comprehension and reasoning more than prior knowledge.
The Consortium has not announced the CLAT exam results date for 2027. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. In the CLAT 2026 cycle, the result came on 16 December 2025. That was nine days after the CLAT exam date of 7 December 2025. The CLAT exam results 2027 page will carry the 2027 date when it is released.
In CLAT 2026, candidates downloaded their scorecards by logging in to their account on the Consortium website. The 2027 process is not announced. Keep your login details safe. The Consortium has not listed the fields of the scorecard.
The CLAT exam results of 2026 show a highest mark of 112.75 in UG and 104.25 in PG. Both papers were evaluated out of 119 marks, because one question was withdrawn in each. Out of all applicants, 96.83% in UG and 92.45% in PG appeared for the test. The Consortium did not name toppers in its result notification.
The CLAT exam answer key for 2027 has no announced date. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The CLAT 2026 process is the only guide. The Consortium issued the provisional key on 10 December 2025 at 5:00 PM. The objection window ran until 5:00 PM on 12 December 2025, and each objection cost ₹500. The fee was refunded if the objection was upheld. The CLAT exam answer key 2027 page lists the steps to raise an objection.
The Consortium's is dated 16 December 2025. The UG key did not change. In PG, three answers were modified. In CLAT 2026, candidates could keep their copy of the OMR sheet and the question booklet. Both help a candidate compare answers with the key.
CLAT rank follows total marks, and equal marks are separated by a tie-break. In UG, the first tie-break is higher marks in the Legal Aptitude component or section. The next is higher age, then a computerised draw of lots. The rule uses the words Legal Aptitude, and the five published UG sections do not carry that name. In PG, the order is higher age and then a draw of lots.
The Consortium publishes no marks-to-rank table, so no official rank exists for any score. The maximum is 120 marks, with +1 for a right answer and -0.25 for a wrong one. Rank depends on how many candidates score higher in the same paper. The closing ranks in the next section are ranks, not marks.
CLAT has no pass mark. The Consortium publishes no minimum qualifying score for CLAT 2027, and admission is by rank and seat allotment. The CLAT cutoff 2027 is the closing All India Rank (AIR) of an NLU in an allotment list.
These are CLAT 2026 closing ranks
The ranks below come from the CLAT 2026 allotment lists (exam of 7 December 2025, admission 2026-27). They are General category, UG, cumulative up to the list named. They are not a prediction for CLAT 2027, and no CLAT 2027 allotment list exists yet.
The CLAT cutoff for NLSIU in CLAT 2026 was a General closing rank of 101 in list 1. It was 120 in list 5. A lower rank number is a better rank. By list 5, NLSIU had gone down to AIR 120 for General candidates. The table puts the CLAT cutoff for NLSIU next to the same two lists for other NLUs.
| NLU (UG, General) | List 1 closing rank | List 5 closing rank |
|---|---|---|
| NLSIU Bengaluru | 101 | 120 |
| NALSAR Hyderabad | 148 | 168 |
| WBNUJS Kolkata | 284 | 343 |
| NLU Jodhpur (B.A. LL.B.) | 310 | 364 |
| GNLU Gandhinagar | 376 | 398 |
| NLIU Bhopal (B.A. LL.B.) | 432 | 459 |
Yes, each allotment list gives separate closing ranks by category and by domicile. The CLAT cutoff for NLSIU in list 5 of CLAT 2026 shows the gap by category.
| NLSIU category (UG, list 5) | Closing rank |
|---|---|
| General | 120 |
| EWS | 740 |
| OBC | 1,177 |
| SC | 3,142 |
| ST | 5,227 |
State-domicile categories apply only to candidates who hold that domicile. PG rows are published separately from UG rows. The CLAT cutoff page for 2027 will carry them.
Use them as one reference only. NLUs can change their total seats and the break-up before the final allotment. The seat numbers in a brochure can therefore change. Official closing ranks for CLAT 2025 and CLAT 2024 could not be retrieved, so no longer trend is shown. The CLAT cutoff for NLSIU in 2027 will be known only after the first list.
CLAT selection runs on rank. The CLAT exam results give a rank. In CLAT 2026, CLAT counselling matched the rank with each candidate's NLU preferences. Every allotment under CLAT 2027 is provisional. In CLAT 2026, the Consortium of NLUs invited eligible candidates to counselling according to the rank list and the admissions matrix of each NLU. An allotment creates no right of admission.
The official FAQ places counselling in December 2026 and January 2027. The round dates are not announced. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The CLAT 2026 counselling gives the pattern, and the table shows its main rules.
| Step | CLAT 2026 rule | CLAT 2026 date |
|---|---|---|
| Counselling registration | Fee ₹30,000 General, ₹20,000 for ST, SC, OBC, BC, EWS and PWD | 17 December 2025 to 27 December 2025 |
| NLU preferences | At least 15 for UG and 5 for PG | Updated until registration closed |
| Allotment lists | Five lists, with Freeze, Float or Exit | First on 7 January 2026, fifth on 15 May 2026 |
The Consortium's state these rules. The Float option ended after the fourth round, so the fifth-round seat was final. The counselling fees are separate from the CLAT exam fees.
Twenty-six National Law Universities admit through CLAT 2027. The Consortium's participating universities page shows 27 entries. GNLU appears twice, once for Gandhinagar and once for its Silvassa campus. This is the full list of CLAT colleges from the Consortium. It does not list other law colleges, so none are named here. Among all law institutions in NIRF 2025, NLSIU ranked first, NALSAR third, WBNUJS fourth and GNLU fifth. NLU Delhi, which is outside CLAT, ranked second. The NIRF 2026 Law ranking is not released.
Each NLU states its own intake in its brochure. The Consortium-hosted brochure shows 310 seats for the NLSIU B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) in academic year 2027-28. It shows 132 seats at NALSAR. Brochures give seats by category, domicile and horizontal reservation. NLUs can change these numbers before final allotment, so check each brochure before counselling.
Yes, among National Law Universities, only NLU Delhi admits through AILET 2027 and not through CLAT. The test is on 13 December 2026 for its five-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. programmes for 2027-28. NLSIU also runs its own test, NLSAT 2027, for programmes other than the five-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.). Its notification is dated 9 October 2026.

Show it at the time of admission, in the form the Government and the NLU require. You also upload the certificate with the application.
The Consortium hosts the CLAT 2026 UG and PG question booklets, all four sets of each. They sit inside its of 10 December 2025. The same PDF carries the provisional answer keys. The CLAT exam question papers page lists only papers hosted by the Consortium.
The only official CLAT exam question papers confirmed here are the CLAT 2026 booklets in the PDF above. UG and PG each have Sets A to D. The Consortium also sells previous years' papers for ₹500 as an optional add-on at payment. The 2027 pages do not say which years that pack covers. Copies of older papers on other websites are not official.
The Consortium has not published a CLAT 2027 sample paper or mock test. Not officially announced as of 13 October 2026. The CLAT exam 2027 notifications list has no such entry. The CLAT 2026 syllabus page had promised model papers, but the 2027 pages do not repeat the promise.
Solve a full CLAT 2026 booklet in 120 minutes and mark it with +1 and -0.25. Then check it against the final answer key. Use the CLAT exam question papers to learn the passage style and the section order. They also fit into your CLAT exam preparation as timed practice. Do not read them as a prediction of 2027 topics. Practise on a printed copy and mark answers on a practice OMR sheet, because the real test is offline.
The CLAT exam 2027 website lists no book for any section. It describes the skills each section tests. CLAT exam preparation should follow the CLAT exam syllabus and the paper pattern. The CLAT exam date is 6 December 2026. The section shares are about 20% English, 25% Current Affairs, 25% Legal Reasoning, 20% Logical Reasoning and 10% Quantitative Techniques.
No official book list exists for CLAT 2027. Use the official material first. That means the syllabus descriptions, the CLAT 2026 booklets and the final answer key. Official CLAT exam question papers are the best practice material you can verify. For Current Affairs, follow the topics the syllabus lists. These are events in India and the world, arts and culture, international affairs and historical events of continuing significance. This guide names no commercial book because no official source verifies one.
Revise the CLAT exam details first: the date, the pattern and the marking. Then give each section study time in line with its share of the paper. The plan below has three periods and ends on the day before the exam. A good CLAT exam preparation plan also keeps one full paper a week in the last phase.
| Period | Focus | Output |
|---|---|---|
| 13 October to 31 October 2026 | Submit the form, then read each section's syllabus description | Form submitted, topic list ready |
| 1 November to 22 November 2026 | Section-wise practice on CLAT 2026 passages | Weak sections identified |
| 23 November to 5 December 2026 | Full 120-minute papers with +1 and -0.25 marking | A steady order for attempting sections |
The CLAT exam pattern for 2027 is unchanged, so prepare for five sections. The Expert Committee Report recommends a three-section model for later cycles. The Governing Body kept the 2027 pattern as it is. Read the only for the direction of CLAT 2028. Do not change your CLAT exam preparation to fit a different pattern in December 2026.
