Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai runs a two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), not an MBA. The difference is a status question, and it is the first thing to settle. A PGDM is a diploma awarded by LIBA itself under approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). An MBA is a degree awarded by a university. LIBA's own admission brochure states the programme is "approved by AICTE." It is also "Recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)." That is per the .
That AIU recognition is what makes the diploma count as equivalent to a master's degree. It matters for higher study and for most government jobs. So the PGDM label is not a downgrade. It is simply a different legal route, and you should know which one you are buying.
LIBA was established in 1979 inside the Loyola College Campus in Nungambakkam, Chennai. It is managed by Jesuits, per the same brochure. It shares a campus with Loyola College, Chennai, but it is a separate institution with separate approvals. Any NAAC grade, ranking or fee you see quoted for Loyola College does not apply to LIBA.
The institute placed 55th in the NIRF 2025 Management ranking, with a score of 53.12 (NIRF 2025 Management Ranking). It ranked 66th in 2024. That is an eleven-place improvement in one year.
Who LIBA suits. You want a Chennai-based, AICTE-approved PGDM with a strong teaching and outcomes record. You are also comfortable with a diploma rather than a degree. LIBA's NIRF 2025 Graduation Outcomes score was 77.18, its second-strongest parameter.
Who should check twice. You want research depth, a globally recognised brand, or an international accreditation like EQUIS, AMBA or AACSB. LIBA's NIRF 2025 Research and Professional Practice score was 19.26, its weakest parameter by a wide margin. LIBA does not appear on the EQUIS, AMBA or AACSB accredited-school lists. Its published international accreditation is SAQS from AMDISA.
One more thing to check before you commit. LIBA's marketing pages state "100% placement" and an average package of ₹11 LPA. LIBA's own statutory filing to NIRF tells it differently. For the 2023-24 graduating year it reports 232 of 238 students placed. It describes ₹11 lakh as the median salary, not the average. Those are different claims. The LIBA placement record sets out both, with the years attached.
The table below carries the facts most people check first. Every figure names the year it belongs to.

LIBA's admissions portal lists nine programme routes, and the two-year full-time PGDM is the one most applicants mean. The full-time PGDM costs ₹18,89,700 in total, spread across six terms.
LIBA runs the following routes, per its official admissions portal:
The full-time PGDM offers dual specialisation across Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Business Analytics, and IT and Operations. The curriculum runs to 126 credits, including core courses, electives and a summer project (LIBA PGDM programme site).
| Programme | Duration | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| PGDM Full-Time | 2 years | ₹18,89,700 total |
| PGDM Weekend | 2 years | ₹7,80,600 total |
| Online PGDM | 2 years | ₹3,50,000 total |
| Other routes | Varies | Not published |
The next table shows the batch each fee figure belongs to.

| PGDM Weekend | 2025-27 batch, AICTE mandatory disclosure |

The full-time fee is shown in six terms and collected as an annual fee. The six terms run ₹4,04,400, ₹2,84,900, ₹2,89,500, ₹3,11,960, ₹3,10,600 and ₹2,88,340. Those six add to ₹18,89,700 exactly.
Hostel is extra. So are two refundable deposits of ₹10,000 each. The LIBA fee structure carries the full break-up, and the LIBA courses list sets out eligibility per programme.
Yes, LIBA has a student exchange programme with partner universities abroad. LIBA's reports more than 35 exchange and collaboration programmes across the United States, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. LIBA's names partners such as IESEG, KEDGE and NEOMA in France. LIBA's asks for a minimum CGPA of 6 to join an exchange with an MoU partner. The latest exchange activity LIBA reports is for 2019-20 and 2020-21, when classes ran online, and it publishes no credit-transfer rules.

LIBA admits full-time PGDM candidates on a CAT 2026 or XAT 2027 score. A Written Ability Test, a Group Discussion and a Personal Interview follow. Registration for the 2027-29 batch opened in August 2026. The selection rounds run February to March 2027 (LIBA PGDM admissions site).
LIBA's admissions portal states the academic bar plainly. You need a minimum of 60% marks in Class 10, Class 12 and your undergraduate degree. Any discipline qualifies. The degree must come from a university recognised by AIU and be studied in regular mode.
Two further conditions sit in the brochure. Candidates who cleared all subjects on the first attempt are preferred. A history of more than two arrears disqualifies an applicant.
The application runs online through LIBA's admissions portal. You fill the form, upload your marksheets, and pay an application fee of ₹2,000. Shortlisting happens on your CAT or XAT score. LIBA does not publish the numerical weighting it gives to the test score, academics, work experience or the interview. Treat any weighting table you see elsewhere as unverified.
One route sits outside this pattern. Applicants in the Gulf, Foreign National and OCI category may use the LIBA Admissions Test (LAT) instead. It replaces CAT or XAT for that group only.
Full dates, documents and reservation rules sit on the LIBA admission process page.
The median salary for LIBA graduates in the 2023-24 graduating year was ₹11,00,000. In that year, 232 of 238 eligible students were placed. Both figures come from LIBA's own data submission to NIRF ().
That works out to a 97.5% placement rate. It is a strong number, and it is not the 100% that LIBA's marketing pages claim.
The record moves a lot year to year. In the 2021-22 graduating year, LIBA's NIRF filing reports 100 of 178 students placed, with a median of ₹7,60,000. That is 56%. Two years later it was 97.5%. A family planning a loan should look at the range, not one year.
LIBA currently names Infosys, Wipro, Deloitte, Cognizant, EY, Schneider Electric and Vedanta among its recruiters. It also states that 60 or more companies visit. It does not attach a batch year to that list. The LIBA placement figures set out every year LIBA has filed.
LIBA does not publish a CAT or XAT percentile cutoff. No percentile figure appears on LIBA's admissions portal, its PGDM programme site or its full-time brochure.
What LIBA does publish is the eligibility gate. You need a valid CAT 2026 or XAT 2027 score. You also need 60% in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation, with no more than two arrears. Clearing that gate is what gets your application read. It is not a promise of a shortlist. The LIBA cutoff page explains what you can and cannot infer from this.
LIBA gives scholarships on a merit-cum-means basis. Its AICTE mandatory disclosure names the Jesuit Empowerment Scholarship and lists corporate tie-ups with Bharti Foundations, Hyundai Motors India Limited and Palaniswamy Trust. LIBA does not print an award amount or a deadline.
Its NIRF filings show the money involved. In the NIRF 2026 data report, 49 students received full tuition fee reimbursement from institution funds, against 98 in the NIRF 2025 submission. None received it from state or central government, and none from private bodies. The NIRF 2026 data report counts 23 economically backward students and 151 socially challenged students.
That is real money moving. The LIBA scholarship page sets out what this does and does not tell you.
LIBA holds rank 55 in the NIRF 2025 Management category, with a score of 53.12. NIRF has not published a 2026 Management ranking, so 2025 is the current edition.
Management is the only NIRF category LIBA is ranked in. It does not appear in the NIRF Overall, University, Research or College lists.
| Edition | NIRF Management rank | Score |
|---|---|---|
| NIRF 2025 | 55 | 53.12 |
| NIRF 2024 | 66 | 49.26 |
| NIRF 2023 | Not ranked in the top 100 or the 101-125 band | Not applicable |
LIBA does not appear in any QS ranking or the Financial Times business-school rankings. The LIBA rankings page breaks the NIRF score into its five parameters, which is where the real picture sits.
LIBA accepts CAT 2026 and XAT 2027 for the 2027-29 full-time PGDM batch. It accepts the LIBA Admissions Test (LAT) only for Gulf, Foreign National and OCI applicants.
LIBA's admissions portal lists CAT, XAT and LAT only. CMAT, GMAT and TANCET do not appear on it. If you hold one of those scores and want to apply, write to admissions@liba.edu first. Do not assume it will be accepted.
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management and is scored as a percentile. A percentile is not a percentage. A 90 percentile means you scored higher than 90 out of every 100 candidates who wrote the paper. CAT 2026 registration and results run through the official CAT portal.
The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur, and is held in early January. It adds a Decision Making section that CAT does not have.
Either works, and writing both widens your window. CAT 2026 results arrive before XAT 2027 is written, so a weak CAT result still leaves XAT open. LIBA's selection rounds run February to March 2027, after both results are out.
Programmes outside the full-time PGDM work differently. The Online PGDM requires no entrance exam at all. The Weekend PGDM selects on an entrance test and a personal interview. Two years of full-time work experience is a hard condition.
LIBA sits inside the Loyola College Campus at No. 1, Sterling Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai 600034. That is central Chennai, not an outskirts campus.
The full-time PGDM is described as residential in LIBA's own programme material. Hostel accommodation is available in AC and non-AC options, with separate facilities for men and women (LIBA PGDM admissions page). In the men's hostel, AC single sharing is ₹2,50,000 a year and non-AC is ₹1,30,000 a year, per LIBA's AICTE mandatory disclosure for 2025-26. The full-time brochure states that second-year hostel fees are subject to revision.
LIBA reported 35 faculty members and 480 students across its two-year PG programmes in its NIRF 2025 filing. That is a ratio worth weighing against larger campuses. LIBA does not publish a campus area figure on its official pages.
LIBA is at Loyola College Campus, No. 1, Sterling Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai 600034. Name Loyola College, Sterling Road to an auto or cab driver. Every Chennai driver knows Loyola College. Very few know LIBA by name.
Chennai International Airport at Meenambakkam is the nearest airport. Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore are the two main railway terminals, and Nungambakkam is the nearest suburban station. The LIBA travel guide gives the routes, approximate times and the cheapest way in.
Google shows LIBA at 4.6 out of 5, but that listing also covers short courses. On Reddit, students and aspirants see LIBA as a respected Chennai school. Several say the roles lean to marketing and sales, and many say the fee is high for what it returns.

Only 3 Google reviews are visible on the public page, and two of them are about a short digital marketing course. So the detail below comes mostly from Reddit, with a few Quora answers and one public LinkedIn post.
How to Read These LIBA Reviews
These are personal opinions of students, alumni and aspirants. "Strong" means three or more different posters, or more than one platform, agree. "Single View" means one person's account. The Google rating covers the whole listing, including short courses, so it may not reflect PGDM students. Evidence on teaching, workload, food and hostel quality is thin, so those topics are left out or kept short. Fees, placements and rankings on this page come from LIBA's own data, not from posts. Labels: Students Like This and Students Dislike This show the direction. Mixed Views means opinions are split or worth checking yourself. One Student's View is a single account.
Posters see LIBA as a respected tier-2 school with a good name in Chennai. A few students say the culture is strict and school-like.
🏷️Students Like ThisGood Name in Chennai and the SouthStrong view. Many posters in 2025 and 2026, including students and aspirants, place LIBA in the tier-2 group with a strong regional name. Most place it below the top national brands.👥Students Like ThisSmaller BatchTwo posters in 2025 and 2026 say the batch is smaller than at many similar schools. One adds that LIBA runs only the core PGDM in its full-time programme.🏫Mixed ViewsStrict, School-Like FeelTwo accounts in separate threads, one from a student in 2025 and one in February 2026, say staff treat students like school children, even those with work experience. Other posts do not raise this.🎉Mixed ViewsViews on Events DifferAn admitted student in 2025 says LIBA holds many events for the MBA batch. A current student in the same thread says the events feel childish and there are few management competitions.🎓One Student's ViewGraduate Recalls a Good ExperienceA 2026 graduate's public LinkedIn post praises supportive faculty, strong friendships and student council work. Some posters on both sides call others paid or biased. We cannot check this, so single accounts are marked Single View.
Teaching quality, workload, food and hostel quality have too little student detail, so we say little about them. Most Quora answers are from 2015 to 2023, so we used them only to cross-check the fee view. Read the LIBA fees and LIBA placements pages for official figures.
LIBA suits students who want a Chennai or South India career in marketing, sales or BFSI and accept a strict set-up. It suits others less.

Answers to what readers ask most often.
Yes, LIBA's two-year PGDM is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to a master's degree, and the programme is approved by AICTE, per LIBA's own full-time PGDM brochure. The difference is who awards it. LIBA awards the diploma itself. A university awards an MBA degree. For higher study and most government roles, the AIU equivalence is what matters. Data Sources: LIBA Full-Time PGDM brochure, liba.edu
No, LIBA is a separate institution that shares the Loyola College Campus in Nungambakkam. LIBA was established in 1979 as a management institute with its own AICTE approval. Loyola College, Chennai is an autonomous undergraduate college with its own NAAC grade and its own rankings. A fee, ranking or accreditation quoted for Loyola College does not apply to LIBA. Data Sources: LIBA Full-Time PGDM brochure, liba.edu
The total full-time PGDM fee is ₹18,89,700 for the two years, shown across six terms. That figure is printed in LIBA's 2024-26 brochure and in its Admission Policy for the 2026-28 batch. Hostel, two refundable deposits of ₹10,000 each, and a ₹2,000 application fee sit outside it. Data Sources: LIBA Full-Time PGDM brochure and pgdm.liba.edu
No NIRF 2026 Management ranking has been published, so the current edition is NIRF 2025, where LIBA ranks 55 with a score of 53.12. LIBA ranked 66 in NIRF 2024 and did not appear in the top 100 or the 101-125 band in NIRF 2023. Management is the only NIRF category LIBA is ranked in. Data Sources: nirfindia.org
