The IIM Calcutta cutoff has two parts: a percentile gate and a composite score. The gate keeps you in the race. The composite score decides who gets an interview call. IIM Calcutta publishes the gate and not the call mark. The IIM Calcutta CAT cut off on its website is therefore a minimum.
Stage I
Percentile Gate
Your CAT 2026 overall and section percentiles must clear the minimums, with a non-negative raw score in every section.
Stage II
Composite Score Out of 85
CAT carries 56 marks, Class 10 up to 10, Class 12 up to 15, and female and transgender candidates get 4. IIM Calcutta sets the interview call mark after scoring.
Stage III
Interview and Writing Test
The institute does not publish a call mark. The final selection weights are on the admission page.
The IIM Calcutta Cutoff Minimum Is Not the Call Mark
Open candidates need 85 overall to be considered. IIM Calcutta states that the real cutoffs may be much higher. They depend on how many candidates it calls in each category.
No. IIM Calcutta publishes only the Stage I minimums, not the composite score at which it called candidates for interviews. So no official IIM Calcutta previous year cutoff exists to quote. Any previous year cut off you see elsewhere is a guess. Use the minimums and the marks weights below instead.
A 97 percentile overall is above the overall minimum for every category, but it does not guarantee an interview call. You also need the section minimums, and the call depends on the composite score. The composite counts your Class 10 and Class 12 marks along with CAT.
No. The MBA is the only IIM Calcutta programme that uses CAT, so there is no course wise cutoff for CAT. The one-year MBAEx asks for a GMAT score in at least the 50th percentile, and the 2026-27 batch averaged above the 85th. The PGDBA and PGPEX-VLM run their own tests, so each has its own course wise cut off.
The IIM Calcutta cutoff 2026 minimums for the batch joining in 2027 are out, and the call marks are not. The 2027-29 policy uses your CAT 2026 score, and its IIM Calcutta cutoff minimums match the 2026-28 policy line by line. Read the CAT 2026 dates page for the full schedule.

IIM Calcutta publishes only the Stage I minimums
IIM Calcutta releases no separate cutoff list. The IIM Calcutta CAT cutoff 2026 minimums already sit in the 2027-29 admission policy. The interview shortlist follows the CAT result. Watch your registered email and the MBA admission page. The CAT 2026 result page explains how the percentile is worked out.
The IIM Calcutta cutoff marks 2026 are a composite out of 85. The institute sets the call mark after it sees the scores. CAT carries 56 of the 85 marks, Class 10 and 12 carry up to 25, and women and transgender candidates get 4. The IIM Calcutta admission policy lists every weight.
The IIM Calcutta cutoff has a separate minimum in each of VARC, DILR and QA. For Open candidates it is 80, 80 and 75. The table shows the section minimums for each category in the 2027-29 policy, based on the CAT 2026 score. The institute states that the actual sectional cutoffs may be much higher.
| Category | VARC, DILR and QA percentile |
|---|---|
| Open | 80, 80, 75 |
| EWS and NC-OBC | 70, 65, 65 |
| SC | 65, 60, 60 |
| ST | 55, 55, 55 |
| PwD | 45, 45, 45 |
No. You must clear the minimum in all three sections and also the overall percentile. A high overall percentile cannot make up for a low section. You also need a non-negative raw score in every section. Check the sectional percentiles on your CAT scorecard before you compare yourself with the IIM Calcutta cut off.
The IIM Calcutta category wise cutoff is highest for Open candidates and lowest for PwD candidates. The IIM Calcutta cutoff for each category is a minimum, not the call mark. The table shows the overall percentile minimum for each category in the 2027-29 policy. It also shows how many students joined the MBA from each category in 2024-25, as per the Annual Report.
| Category | Overall percentile minimum | Admitted in 2024-25 |
|---|---|---|
| Open | 85 | 232 |
| EWS | 75 | 9 |
| NC-OBC | 75 | 130 |
| SC | 70 | 72 |
| ST | 65 | 36 |
| PwD | 55 | Not listed |
Yes. The IIM Calcutta cutoff is 75 overall for NC-OBC and EWS against 85 for Open, and the section minimums are lower too. The call mark is set through a category wise cut off after scoring. A lower gate does not mean less competition, because IIM Calcutta decides how many candidates to call in each category.
The IIM Calcutta expected cutoff cannot be one percentile. The call mark depends on your composite score and the size of the batch. The institute publishes no expected cut off. Treat 85 overall as the IIM Calcutta cutoff floor for Open candidates, not as the target. Aim for a CAT score that leaves a clear margin above every section minimum.
Aim well above the IIM Calcutta cutoff, with every section above its minimum. Weak school marks mean you need a higher CAT score to reach the same composite. Strong school marks give you a cushion. Without an IIM Calcutta previous year cut off to guide you, the composite example below is the best plan.
Add your CAT marks, your school points and the gender points. The CAT marks are your total scaled score divided by the maximum scaled score, multiplied by 56. Take a male Open candidate with 85% in Class 10 and 82% in Class 12 who scores 80% of the maximum. That gives 44.8 for CAT plus 25 for school, which is 69.8 of 85.
The Example Is an Illustration
The worked example is arithmetic on the published weights. It does not predict the IIM Calcutta call mark, which the institute does not publish.
Class 10 and 12 marks add 0 to 25 marks to your composite. They move your place against the IIM Calcutta cutoff. Two candidates with the same CAT score can differ by the full 25 marks. That is about 45% of the 56 CAT marks (25 out of 56). With 80% or more in both classes you get all 25. Each lower band of five percentage points costs 2 marks in Class 10 and 3 marks in Class 12. Below 60% gives 0 in that class.
Five things move the IIM Calcutta cutoff each year, as the cards below show. The institute says the number of candidates it calls depends on the size of the incoming batch. It also says the number is at its sole discretion. The IIM Calcutta admission cutoff therefore moves with the cycle.
👥Factor 1Batch SizeThe number of candidates called depends on the size of the incoming batch.🏷️Factor 2CategoryIIM Calcutta shortlists category by category, so each category has its own call mark.📚Factor 3School MarksClass 10 and Class 12 marks add 0 to 25 marks to your composite.⚖️Factor 4Section BalanceYou must clear the minimum in VARC, DILR and QA.📝Factor 5CAT PaperA harder paper lowers the scaled score you need, not the percentile minimum. It lowers the scaled score you need, not the IIM Calcutta cutoff in percentile. The minimums are percentiles, so they stay at 85 overall for Open whatever the paper. A harder paper means a lower scaled score reaches the same percentile. IIM Calcutta uses the total overall scaled score for the CAT marks.
No. The IIM Calcutta cutoff for the interview call uses only CAT, Class 10 marks, Class 12 marks and the gender diversity points. Work experience and academic diversity count later, in the final selection. They carry up to 8 and 6 marks there. Read the CAT exam pattern page to plan the sections.
