JMI admission is programme-wise. B.Tech goes by JEE Main, B.Arch by NATA, BDS by NEET, ITEP by NCET, and BPT and most other programmes by the JMI entrance test. JMI has not published a 2027-28 prospectus. The Jamia Millia Islamia admission 2027 dates below are from the 2026-27 cycle, which opened on 20 February 2026. You apply online at admission.jmi.ac.in, and there is no printed form.
JMI admission needs two steps: the right exam for your programme code, and an online form on the JMI admission portal. JMI offers 324 programmes across 11 faculties, as per the Prospectus 2026-27. JMI admission runs on merit and on JMI's reservation rules. The JMI admission requirements differ by programme code. A filled form or an admit card does not guarantee a seat.

The JMI admission process has seven steps. Pick your programme code in the prospectus, take the exam it names, and fill the online form on admission.jmi.ac.in. B.Tech, B.Arch, BDS and ITEP use national exams. BPT and most other programmes use the JMI entrance test.
Yes. JMI admission to most programmes runs through its own entrance test. CUET is used only for the programmes listed in Annexure VI of the prospectus, mainly language and some UG programmes.
JMI publishes no pass rate or difficulty rating. Objective papers in JMI admission tests carry a negative mark of 0.25 for each wrong answer. Read the syllabus on the JMI site and attempt only the questions you are sure of.
The JMI admission dates for 2027 are not out. The 2026-27 cycle opened on 20 February 2026 and held its last spot round in August 2026. The timeline shows the JMI admission dates 2027 applicants can use as a guide, newest first.

Prospectus and Forms Open
The prospectus went online with the JMI admission forms.
JMI extended the last date twice, on 25 March and 6 April 2026. The first notice moved it to 2 April, and the second moved it to 10 April after several requests from applicants. For JEE Main, NATA, NEET, NCET and CUET programmes, forms stayed open until 10 days after each agency declared its result. The PG qualifying result was due by 31 October 2026.
For JMI admission 2026-27 it was 10 April 2026, after two extensions. For 2027-28, JMI has not announced a date. Watch admission.jmi.ac.in for the prospectus.
JMI has not said. The 2026-27 JMI admission forms opened on 20 February 2026, the day the prospectus went online. The 2027-28 forms will follow the new prospectus.
JMI admission criteria are set against each programme code, usually as a minimum percentage in Class 12 or in your bachelor's degree. The table shows the JMI admission eligibility for the main programmes, from the Prospectus 2026-27. Check your own code before you apply.
| Programme | Exam | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| B.Tech | JEE Main | Class 12 with PCM and 55% in PCM, or a diploma with 55% |

| B.Ed | JMI test | Bachelor's in a school subject with 50% |
JMI accepts degrees of central and state universities and institutions of national importance. It also accepts foreign degrees that UGC or AIU treats as equal. Candidates whose results are awaited can apply for JMI admission.
Yes. Foreign students apply through ICCR seats (5%), supernumerary seats (25%) or the general category. They apply on admission.jmi.ac.in or through the Study in India programme. In 2026-27 the last form dates were 25 May 2026 for UG and 30 May 2026 for PG. Fees are charged in US dollars.
JMI admission uses six routes. The JMI entrance test is the default, and JEE Main, NATA, NEET, NCET and CUET cover the rest. Check the route against your programme code, not your faculty.
| Programme | Route |
|---|---|
| B.Tech | JEE Main final rank |
| B.Arch | NATA rank after the first cut-off |
| BDS | NEET UG |
| ITEP B.Sc B.Ed, ITEP B.A. B.Ed | NCET |
| Programmes in Annexure VI | CUET |
| All other programmes | JMI entrance test |
Register on admission.jmi.ac.in in two phases: a basic profile, then the programme and fee. You need a working email. You also need a colour photograph on a white background and a signature, each up to 100 KB in JPG. Submit only one form for each programme or group of programmes.
The JMI admission procedure has seven steps, from your programme code to your admission formalities. JMI asks for no documents with the form except your photograph and signature.
Step 1
Pick Your Programme Code
Check eligibility and seats in the prospectus.
Step 2
Register and Pay the Fee
Pay ₹1,000 or ₹700 by Net Banking, credit card or debit card. It is not refundable.
Step 3
Edit and Preview the Form
Use the editing window. You cannot change your name or date of birth after registration.
Step 4
Print the Admit Card
Paste a photograph and carry a valid ID card.
Step 5
Take the Exam
Take the JMI test, or your JEE Main, NATA, NEET, NCET or CUET score counts.
Step 6
Check the Selection List
Lists go up on admission.jmi.ac.in. JMI sends nothing by post.
Step 7
Complete Formalities
Bring originals and pay the fee within the notified dates.
The JMI admission fee for the form is ₹1,000 for engineering, architecture, law, dentistry, education, management, physiotherapy and AJK MCRC. It is ₹700 for all other faculties and centres. JMI refunds it only for a failed transaction at its own end.
JMI admission selects strictly on merit and on its reservation rules, and the merit measure depends on the programme. B.Tech uses the final JEE Main rank. B.Arch uses the NATA rank after the first cut-off. Other programmes use the entrance test score, and some add an interview or group discussion.
📝MeritWritten Test ScoreRank lists follow the entrance test score. Ties go to the older candidate by date of birth.🎤4 to 5 TimesInterview ProgrammesJMI calls four to five times the seats of each category. A tie goes to the higher written marks, then to age.🏅Agency RankNational Exam RanksFor B.Tech, B.Arch, BDS and ITEP, the exam agency sets the rank. JMI does not break ties.⚠️Be PresentPresence MattersAbsence from any test component, group discussion or interview forfeits your claim.JMI admission runs its own shortlisting, with no shared counselling round except for BDS. JMI shows provisional lists on the admission portal, with waitlists in order of merit. BDS seats come through MCC counselling, and JMI posts any vacancies that MCC returns.
JMI holds offline spot registration when seats stay vacant, in order of merit. You can join only for a programme where you filled the complete form and, for own-test programmes, sat the test. In 2026-27, the third notice listed very few vacant seats and covered waitlisted candidates and candidates who missed their offer.
Yes, but only on merit, and only upward. You fill an upgrade form at the time of admission. JMI allows no downgrade, and you cannot change your preferences after the form edit date.
JMI admission needs attested copies and the originals of nine documents on the day of admission. JMI may keep your original qualifying result for two months from the start of the session.
Part-time, evening and sponsored candidates also bring experience and no-objection certificates from the employer. Submit your transfer or migration certificate within 60 days of admission.
The JMI admission cutoff is not set before the cycle. JMI prints a cut-off rank or score for B.Tech and B.Arch in its selection lists. In list 1 of 2026, the General B.Tech cut-off was rank 23,744 for Computer Engineering. It was rank 78,135 for Civil Construction Technology. For B.Arch the regular General cut-off was a NATA score of 116. The JMI cutoff page has every branch and category.
JMI admission reserves 30% of seats for Muslim candidates, 10% for Muslim women and 10% for Muslim OBC (non-creamy layer) and ST candidates. JMI does this as a minority institution. The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions declared this status on 22 February 2011. You can claim only one reserved category.
| Category | Share of seats in each programme |
|---|---|
| Muslim | 30% |
| Muslim women | 10% |
| Muslim OBC (non-creamy layer) and ST | 10% |
| Persons with disabilities | 5%, with 40% disability and a 5% marks relaxation |
| Jamia internal students | 5% in UG and diploma programmes |
Unfilled seats from the two 10% shares move to the Muslim category. Kashmiri migrants and candidates from Jammu and Kashmir are admitted over and above the seats, up to two seats a programme. Outstanding sportspersons are admitted over and above the seats by the Vice-Chancellor, with a 5% marks relaxation. A reserved-category candidate who qualifies on merit is also considered for the General category.
In 2026-27, JMI gave direct admission without a test in five programmes with few applicants. The programmes were M.A. Persian, M.Sc. Biophysics, M.A. Sanskrit, B.A. Hons Sanskrit and a part-time Diploma in Portuguese. JMI's notice of 26 April 2026 also listed five programmes that did not start, including the Master of Hotel Management, and returned their application fees.
| Route | Who it is for | How JMI fills the seat |
|---|---|---|
| No-test admission | Applicants to five low-demand programmes in 2026-27 | Eligibility only, with no entrance test |
| Self-financed seat | Programmes such as B.Tech, B.Arch and BA LLB Hons | Same exam and merit, higher fee |
| NRI ward seat | Wards of Non-Resident Indians | 5% extra seats on merit; B.Tech by JEE Main rank |
| Foreign national seat | Foreign passport holders | 25% extra seats on last qualifying marks |
No. The Prospectus 2026-27 describes no management quota, and it says NRI-sponsored admission is not permissible in JMI. Self-financed seats carry a higher published fee, but you still need the exam and a merit rank. NRI wards get 5% extra seats on merit, and in most programmes they pay the same fee as Indian students. BDS is an exception. Two seats go to foreign or NRI candidates through NEET, and the Prospectus prints a fee of US $50,000 for the course.
Check your status only on the JMI admission portal at admission.jmi.ac.in. JMI shows selection lists there and sends no intimation by post. For foreign and NRI applicants, JMI says it has not authorised any agency, individual or agent to act for it in admissions. Write to the admission helpdesk at admission@jmi.ac.in if anyone asks you for money.
Do Not Pay Anyone for a Seat
Direct admission here means no entrance test because applications were few. You still need to meet eligibility, and you still pay the programme fee. JMI direct admission is not a paid route. Check your status only on admission.jmi.ac.in.
Scholarships run on their own notices, separate from JMI admission. The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Scholarship refunds the JMI fee up to ₹10,000 a year for regular UG and PG students with a family income of ₹2 lakh or less. It does not cover self-financed courses. The scholarship page has every scheme, the documents and the steps to apply.
A regular JMI B.Tech costs about ₹78,100 over four years, and one year of the latest median salary, ₹25,20,800, is about 32 times that fee. A self-financed B.Tech costs about ₹6,12,700 over four years, and the same median is about 4 times that fee. Each fee is the 2026-27 yearly fee multiplied by four, from the JMI fees page. The median is for the batch of 2024-25, from the JMI placement page. The fee batch and the pay batch differ, so read the match as a rough guide.

About 32 times
Median Pay Against Regular Fee
One year of the median divided by the four-year fee
The regular B.Tech fee equals about 11 days of the median salary, and the self-financed fee equals about 3 months. This assumes one year of the median, before tax and living cost, and no loan interest. Hostel, mess and insurance are not in these fees. In the batch of 2024-25, 299 of 356 B.Tech graduates were placed, and 57 chose higher studies. This is a rough guide, not a promise of a first salary.
The return is strongest for a student who takes a regular B.Tech seat, and weaker for one who pays for a self-financed seat and expects the top median. The median covers all four-year engineering graduates, and NIRF does not split it by branch or fee track. The B.Tech median was ₹13,78,000 for 2023-24 and ₹11,00,000 for 2022-23, so ₹25,20,800 rests on one batch.
Even at ₹13,78,000, the median is about 18 times the regular fee, but only about 2 times the self-financed fee. A self-financed seat costs about 8 times a regular seat. So check which branch and which track your JEE Main rank gets before you accept. The JMI scholarships page lists the Kalam Scholarship. It refunds the fee up to ₹10,000 a year for regular students with a family income up to ₹2 lakh, and it does not cover self-financed seats.
