An IIT Madras scholarship comes from the institute, the government, alumni and companies. The official IIT Madras scholarship information page lists the awards, and every application is checked before approval. Some figures on that page are older than the 2026 fee circular. This IIT Madras scholarship information gives the 2026 waiver rule first and the older award amounts only as printed.

Yes. IIT Madras gives scholarships to B.Tech, Dual Degree, M.Tech, MBA and online BS students. The IIT Madras scholarship schemes include a tuition waiver, the ACR Merit-cum-Means awards, donor prizes and government awards. PhD scholars get a fellowship through their department.
Mostly on income. The IIT Madras scholarship waiver and the ACR Category A award depend on family income and category. The IIT Madras merit scholarship routes use JEE rank or CGPA, and the next section names them. Each IIT Madras scholarship has its own rule.
IIT Madras scholarship schemes come in seven types, and the accordion shows who each one is for. The waiver and ACR awards are the IIT Madras scholarship types most B.Tech families use.
SC, ST and PwD students pay no tuition at any income. Income below Rs 1 lakh also gets a full waiver, and Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh gets two thirds. This follows the 2026 fee circular and the Ministry letter of 8 April 2016.
The Alumni and Corporate Relations office runs two categories. Category A is for income of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and pays the remaining one third of tuition. Category B is for income of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh and depends on merit and funds.
The page lists the Institute Merit-cum-Means scholarship, a free studentship, a notional prize of Rs 1,000 and an SC/ST award with free messing and Rs 250 a month. Its income limit is Rs 4,50,000, so check the current limit.
The SC award covers the top 10 students by JEE rank with income up to Rs 4,50,000. The ST award covers the top 5 with income up to Rs 6,00,000. The minority award needs income up to Rs 2,50,000.
Aditya Birla pays Rs 60,000 a year and OPJEMS pays Rs 65,000 a year, each to a top 20 JEE rank holder. Nissan pays Rs 70,000 and ST Engineering Rs 80,000 a year. The Inspire scheme pays Rs 80,000 a year to Dual Degree BS-MS students.
M.Tech students from India can get a half-time teaching assistantship of Rs 12,400 a month. The DAE Graduate Fellowship pays Rs 35,000 a month to selected GATE candidates.
Eligible students can use the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme. The page also lists interest-free loans from the IIT Madras 72 batch trust and the SSAN Ananya Educational Trust.
Yes. The IIT Madras scholarship for the online BS is fee support of 50% for income of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and 75% for income up to Rs 1 lakh. SC, ST and PwD students get 50% at any income and 75% up to Rs 1 lakh. A student who is both SC or ST and PwD gets 75%. The rule is on study.iitm.ac.in.
An IIT Madras scholarship for M.Tech takes the form of an assistantship. An Indian M.Tech student can get a half-time assistantship of Rs 12,400 a month for up to 22 months. You assist the department for 8 hours a week. Seats without assistance also exist, and the brochure lists both by programme. Later semesters depend on your CGPA.
The IIT Madras merit scholarship is any award that picks students by rank or grades. Aditya Birla and OPJEMS go to top 20 JEE rank holders. The Inlakhs award needs a CGPA of 9.0 or more after the second semester and pays Rs 25,000 a semester. ACR Category B also weighs merit.
Yes, it is an IIT Madras scholarship for top rankers. The Aditya Birla Group picks students from the top 20 JEE ranks and pays Rs 60,000 a year, renewable under its norms.
IIT Madras scholarship eligibility depends on family income, category and, for some awards, JEE rank. The table lists the IIT Madras scholarship eligibility rules for B.Tech and Dual Degree students in the 2026 batch.

The Waiver Covers Tuition Only
Hostel, mess and the other semester charges stay payable, and the fees page lists them. A student with a full waiver still pays the first-payment charges of the fee circular.
Yes. An IIT Madras scholarship covers you here. Income up to Rs 5 lakh is in the two-thirds waiver band, and ACR Category A pays the remaining third. A student in that band can end up with no tuition to pay. Bring a valid income certificate to document verification.
Yes, but it is not guaranteed. ACR Category B covers income of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh and depends on merit and fund availability. Above Rs 8 lakh, the IIT Madras scholarship options are rank-based donor awards.
You claim the IIT Madras scholarship waiver at admission with an income certificate, and you apply for ACR Category B through the apply link on the ACR page. Donor awards follow the donor's rules, and the institute checks each IIT Madras scholarship application.

Yes for ACR and donor awards, so the IIT Madras scholarship process has two parts. The waiver is claimed during admission with the income certificate. For ACR questions, write to Scholarship@acr.iitm.ac.in or call 044 2257 8359. The ACR scholarship page has the current form link.
An income certificate is the main document for any IIT Madras scholarship that depends on income. These are the IIT Madras scholarship documents for 2027. The UG schedule asks for one up to Rs 8 lakh a year, issued by the Tahsildar, only for a concession or scholarship. Central and ministry schemes may ask for other proof, so check each scheme page before you apply.

Donor awards set their own marks. The Dr K Vasanth Rau award, for example, needs a GPA of 6.5. ACR Category A runs up to four years.
IIT Madras does not publish how many students get each scholarship, but NIRF 2026 data shows full tuition reimbursement by source. These counts are the only public IIT Madras scholarship statistics.
The Counts Are Not by Scheme
The NIRF sheet reports total student strength by source of full reimbursement. It does not split the count by scholarship scheme.
| Full reimbursement from | Four-year UG (3,733 students) | Five-year UG (1,149 students) |
|---|---|---|
| State and Central Government | 953 | 185 |
| Institute funds | 122 | 171 |
| Private bodies | 758 | 169 |
In the two-year PG programmes, 2,287 students are enrolled. Of them, 311 get full reimbursement from the government, 950 from institute funds and 96 from private bodies.
The institute does not give a count by scheme. The three NIRF source counts for four-year UG students add up to 1,833 of 3,733. Another 1,946 are classed as socially challenged, meaning SC, ST or OBC.
