SOA Admission Overview

SOA has not announced SAAT 2027 dates yet. Its admission calendar still shows only SAAT 2026. SAAT 2026 Round 1 applications opened on 7 December 2025. The last test listed was on 25 September 2026 (admission.soa.ac.in/important-dates-1). Most SOA programmes admit through SAAT, the university's own entrance test. Engineering also accepts JEE Main, and medicine and dentistry run entirely on NEET-UG.

Is SOA admission open right now?

The SAAT 2026 rounds listed by SOA have all closed. The last application date was 20 September 2026, for veterinary round 2. No later round or SAAT 2027 date is listed.

Which exam should you take for SOA admission?

Take JEE Main or SAAT for engineering, and NEET-UG for medicine or dentistry. Take SAAT for every other undergraduate or postgraduate programme SOA runs. A specific institute may name a different exam, such as CAT for MBA.

When does SAAT 2027 registration start?

SOA Bhubaneswar has not announced it. SAAT 2026 Round 1 opened on 7 December 2025 and closed on 30 April 2026. SOA has not said that SAAT 2027 will follow the same pattern. Check admission.soa.ac.in for the notice.

SOA Eligibility Criteria 2027

For BTech, the confirmed minimum is 60% overall in 10+2 (55% SC/ST/OBC). You also need at least 50% marks (45% SC/ST/OBC) in the listed subjects. For CSE, CSIT, EEE and ECE, these are Physics, Mathematics and one more listed subject. For Civil, Electrical and Mechanical, they are Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (admission.soa.ac.in/engineering-2026, for the 2026 batch onwards). MBBS and BDS follow NEET-UG's national eligibility norms. Other programmes' specific eligibility criteria were not extractable from SOA's page. See the SOA courses courses page for what is confirmed by programme.

Can you apply to SOA engineering with a JEE Main score from a previous attempt?

SOA's own page confirms JEE Main as an accepted route for its engineering intake from the 2026 batch. The SOA page does not state whether it accepts a prior year's JEE Main score for a later admission cycle. Check the current year's official notice before assuming.

SOA Admission Process 2027

The steps below follow SOA's admission procedure page:

  1. Register on SOA's admission portal and fill the SAAT application form. You can submit your JEE Main or NEET score instead, where accepted.
  2. Appear for SAAT, where applicable, on the notified exam date.
  3. Check your SAAT result and rank card on the admission portal.
  4. Participate in e-counselling for engineering seats, or the equivalent process SOA runs for non-engineering programmes.
  5. Complete document verification and pay the fee to confirm your seat.

SOA says it will notify the detailed counselling process and schedule after ranks are published. At final admission it verifies all original certificates (admission procedure page).

Does SOA hold counselling after SAAT results?

Yes. SOA says counselling, online or offline, runs on merit and the candidate's preference after ranks are published. Its calendar lists e-counselling for engineering seats only, with the date to be intimated later.

SOA Selection Criteria 2027

SOA prepares a separate merit list for each programme group. The BTech merit list uses marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Selection is by rank in the merit list, subject to seats available at counselling (admission.soa.ac.in/merit-list-2026, for SAAT 2026). For NEET-based medical and dental seats, SOA follows the national NEET rank and DGHS counselling.

SOA Counselling and Seat Allocation 2027

SOA's admission calendar lists e-counselling specifically for its engineering (BTech) track after SAAT results. Results and rank cards for other programmes are handled separately (admission.soa.ac.in/important-dates-1). SOA gives no count of counselling rounds. SAAT 2026 results came out round by round, from Round 1 to the stray vacancy phases.

Is SOA counselling only for engineering seats?

SOA's confirmed page distinguishes an engineering-specific e-counselling round from results for "other programmes." This suggests the process differs by stream. The non-engineering process itself was not detailed on any page read.

Documents Required for SOA Admission 2027

SOA lists the documents to bring on the day of final admission, in original (final admission page for SAAT 2026, admission.soa.ac.in/final-admission-2026):

  • SAAT admit card (if applicable) and SAAT rank card
  • Aadhaar card as proof of identity, and APAAR ID
  • Original date of birth or Class 10 certificate
  • Original school or college leaving certificate
  • Class 10 mark sheet, and Class 12 mark sheet for undergraduate courses
  • Diploma or degree certificate for lateral entry and postgraduate courses
  • Caste certificate and PH certificate, where they apply
  • Two passport-size colour photographs
  • One set of self-attested photocopies of all original documents

SOA says final admission happens only after you meet the minimum eligibility. If it finds a changed document, it cancels the allotment. For MBBS, the IMS and SUM Hospital notice lists extra documents, covered in the Direct Admission section.

Do you need original mark sheets at the time of SOA admission?

Yes. SOA says all certificates are verified in original at final admission. You also submit one set of self-attested photocopies.

SOA Cutoff for Admission 2027

SOA has not published a competitive closing-rank cutoff. Only the minimum eligibility mark is published for engineering. See the SOA cutoff page for the full detail on this gap.

SOA Reservation Criteria 2027

SOA relaxes its Class 12 eligibility mark by 5 percentage points for SC, ST and OBC candidates applying to engineering. That means 55% overall instead of 60%, and 45% instead of 50% in Physics and Mathematics (admission.soa.ac.in/engineering-2026). The SOA engineering page does not state reservation percentages for seats themselves, as opposed to eligibility marks.

Does SOA reserve a fixed percentage of seats for SC, ST and OBC candidates?

SOA's own page confirms a relaxed eligibility mark for these categories, but not a specific reserved-seat percentage.

SOA Direct Admission 2027

SOA does not offer direct admission or a management quota seat on any admission page it has published. Every route needs an entrance score. SOA's admission procedure page says all students must take SAAT or an equivalent qualifying exam. Seats then go by merit and counselling.

ProgrammeEntrance RouteHow the Seat Is Given
BTech at ITERSAAT, JEE Main or CUETCounselling at the ITER campus and branch allotment
Other UG and PG programmesSAATMerit list on SAAT rank, then counselling by merit and preference
Medical and dental programmesNEETCounselling run by DGHS, Government of India

SOA's admission helpline page says medical and dental admission runs strictly through NEET. SOA also ran a spot vacancy round for BTech in August 2026. The last date to apply was 25 August 2026. The short notice does not describe a separate direct-entry route. Check the SOA fees page before you plan a seat.

Can You Get Into SOA Without an Entrance Exam?

No. SOA's admission pages list SAAT, JEE Main, CUET or NEET as the entry routes. None works without an exam score. PhD admission has its own information page on the SOA admission site.

How Do You Know Your SOA Admission Is Real?

A real seat comes through counselling. SOA says a candidate selected through counselling is admitted and registered automatically. SOA then checks your original certificates at final admission. For MBBS, the IMS reporting notice asks for the DGHS allotment letter. Bring your original NEET admit card and rank card too. NRI seats follow the same allotment, with extra documents. NRI payments are accepted only from a sponsored NRE account.

Do Not Pay Anyone for a Seat

SOA's admission pages describe seats through exam rank and counselling only. Check any seat offer with the SOA admission helpline. The numbers are on the helpline page of admission.soa.ac.in. You can also write to saat2026@soa.ac.in.

SOA Scholarships 2027

BDS students can receive ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 a year across all four years in 2026-27 (soa.ac.in/fees-structure-ids). The amount is based on category and NEET percentile. All undergraduate students admitted from 2026-27 can get ₹35,000 a year. You need at least 80% in Class 10 and Class 12 (SOA UG Scholarship notice, dated 8 December 2025). See the SOA scholarship page for eligibility and renewal.

SOA ROI: Is the BTech CSE Fee Worth It?

BTech CSE at SOA's ITER costs about ₹17.45 lakh over four years with hostel and mess (2026 batch). The latest median pay is ₹6,75,000 a year (2024-25 batch). The cost equals about 31 months of that pay.

The cost is for the 2026 batch. It adds tuition of ₹12,60,000 (eight semesters at ₹1,57,500) and one-time fees of ₹5,000. It also adds ₹4,80,000 for four years of a non-AC 3-occupancy hostel room and a 10-month mess. Tuition and one-time fees alone are ₹12,65,000. Most ITER students come from outside Odisha (9,395 of 11,085, ITER NIRF 2026 data), so most need a hostel. The SOA fees page lists every fee.

The pay is the median for placed ITER BTech graduates of 2024-25, when 1,998 of 2,157 graduates were placed. See SOA placements for the full data. The two batches differ. The fee is for students joining in 2026, and the pay is for students who graduated in 2025. SOA can revise the fee before you graduate.

Months are the cost of ₹17,45,000 divided by one year of pay, times 12. They are before tax and ignore loan interest and living cost beyond hostel and mess. SOA publishes no average, lowest or quartile pay.

How Much Pay Do You Need to Recover the Fee?

To recover ₹17,45,000 in 24 months you need about ₹8,72,500 a year. In 36 months you need about ₹5,81,667 a year. The formula is the cost divided by the months, times 12. For tuition and one-time fees alone (₹12,65,000), the figures are ₹6,32,500 and ₹4,21,667. The 2024-25 median of ₹6,75,000 is above the 36-month need and below the 24-month need.

Can a Scholarship or Loan Change the Cost?

The SOA UG Scholarship can cut the cost by ₹1,40,000 over four years. That brings it to ₹16,05,000, or about 29 months of the median. The award is ₹35,000 a year. You need admission from 2026-27 and at least 80% in Class 10 and Class 12. You must keep a CGPA of 8.0 with no backlog. See SOA scholarships for the rules.

Loan illustration, not an offer. SBI's Student Loan Scheme charges 9.40% a year, floating, from 9 June 2026. It asks for collateral on loans above ₹7.5 lakh (SBI education loan rates). Take a loan of ₹12,00,000 for 4 years of study. SBI adds the interest of the course and a 12-month holiday to the loan. Assuming simple interest for those 5 years, the loan grows to ₹17,64,000. You repay it over 15 years at ₹18,314 a month. That is about 33% of the median monthly pay of ₹56,250. This assumes the full loan is taken at the start, which makes it a cautious figure. The rate can change, so your EMI can change.

Who Gets a Good Return From SOA and Who Should Check Twice?

The return is good if you reach the median or above, and placement odds are high. 92.6% of ITER BTech graduates were placed in 2024-25. The median rose from ₹5,75,000 for 2022-23 to ₹6,75,000 for 2024-25. At the median, the cost equals 31 months of pay.

Check twice on four points. First, the spread is wide. The highest offer on the portal is ₹43 lakh (2023-24, whole university). That is about six times the ITER median. Second, the median covers placed graduates only. 1,998 of the 2,157 graduates were placed, and 97 more chose higher studies. The pay of the rest is not in the figure. Third, SOA publishes no pay by branch. Students online say CSE and CSIT lead, but SOA data does not confirm it. CSE costs ₹40,000 more a semester than Civil, Electrical or Mechanical, so ask the placement cell for branch-wise offers. Fourth, hostel and mess add ₹4,80,000, or 28% of the cost.

Is the SOA MBBS Fee Worth It?

MBBS at SOA costs about ₹1.04 crore in tuition for 2026-27. The latest median pay is ₹9,00,000 a year (2023-24 batch). That is about 138 months, or 11.5 years, of that pay. The cost is ₹22,95,000 a year for 4.5 years plus a ₹25,000 welfare fee, which is ₹1,03,52,500 (IMS and SUM Hospital fee page). It leaves out hostel and mess and the ₹10,000 exam fee for each professional examination. The pay comes from SOA's Medical NIRF 2026 data, where 147 of 147 graduates were placed. The file does not say what the median covers. MD and MS graduates of 2024-25 had a median of ₹12,00,000. Check twice if you plan to pay this fee without a scholarship or loan. Early pay will not recover it quickly. See SOA fees for the MBBS fee details.

The ratio uses the median of placed graduates. It ignores tax, travel and personal living cost.
