MSM Unify DMU Spotlights Skills Gap During National Apprenticeship Week

De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) will highlight the skills gap during National Apprenticeship Week, with an event combining major companies, Further Education (FE) institutions, and the university’s apprenticeships team.

Employers in the region’s top challenge are finding employees with the skills they need to expand their businesses.

Key Takeaways:

  • De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) will highlight the skills gap during National Apprenticeship Week.
  • DMU hosts an event that brings together large corporations, FE institutions, and the university’s apprenticeships team.
  • DMU’s apprenticeship programs have over 640 students enrolled, and they combine on-the-job training with online or on-campus education.

In the case of digital skills such as data analysis, cyber security, and digital marketing, employers are seeking advanced digital skills, for example, posted 7,200 job openings in Leicestershire alone last year.

One of the events is the DMU Apprenticeship Surgery. Employers and potential apprentices can schedule a 15-minute one-on-one meeting with a DMU apprenticeship expert to discuss a specific apprenticeship program or get a fast overview of DMU apprenticeships.

DMU will also host the Addressing the Regional and Digital Skills Gaps: a Panel Event during the National Apprenticeship Week.

More than 640 students are enrolled in DMU’s apprenticeship programs, which combine on-the-job training with online or on-campus education, all supervised by a workplace mentor.

According to Tasmin Raynor, head of Apprenticeships, addressing the skills gap is one of the major advantages, as it allows to assemble a team of experts who can provide value practically immediately by applying their new expertise as they go.

DMU recognizes that apprentices have enhanced production and helped organizations innovate, giving them a competitive advantage.

Apprentices from DMU bring different perspectives and experiences to the workplace than standard university graduates since they come from a larger, more diverse background.
