NTU Reverses policy 1024x536 1

Key Takeaways:

  • NTU has allowed international students to continue their occupancy in response to the challenges students face in securing alternative off-campus housing.
  • NTU has opened up more hall places and reached out to new successful applicants.

International students who are currently residing in their hostel places will be allowed to continue their residency on-campus following the reversal of the July 1 announcement of Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

NTU initially announced on Thursday that hall occupancy would be reduced to facilitate isolation and other related purposes. As a result, thousands of residents, many of them international students without local addresses, have struggled to find alternative accommodation before the commencement of the school year next month.

NTU’s move is in response to the challenges in securing alternative off-campus housing posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the upcoming academic year, first- and second-year students and active hall residents    with full points for participation in hall activities will receive a spot.

An NTU spokesperson said Friday that they have been carefully reviewing the hall capacity while taking into consideration that the vaccination campaign is already underway and that there are other safe management measures that they intend to apply.

“We have opened up more hall places and reached out to newly successful applicants today,” the spokesperson added.

With the reversal of the policy, all applicants who will be in Year 1 and 2 in the upcoming academic year will get a hall place in line with the two-year guaranteed hall stay guideline.
